  • "A gorgeous character property with fantastic harbour views in the perfect central location."

The property offered loads of space and provided the ideal base for our holiday. A couple of minor points such as missing kitchen utensils (cheese grater etc) and a few issues with the electricity tripping and boiler not producing hot water for 1 day did taint the holiday a little but these issues were raised and resolved quickly by the maintenance man. Overall a good cottage that provided a great family holiday

Thank you very much for your feedback. We have replaced the cheese grater. All of the electrics have been checked and no faults found. We are sorry that there was a fault with the boiler, these things just cannot be predicted. We are glad that this did not impact your stay and we hope to welcome you back to the property in the near future. Property Owner

  • "An extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished and well equipped SPACIOUS property in a perfect peaceful position overlooking Mevagissey harbour, with good private outdoor space -unusual for this town We were a group of four but the property could easily accommodate eight and the variety of spaces within the house would still allow for a relaxing time."

Very comfortable double beds now and one of our party wanted to take the bath home, using it every day. The maintenance manager is elusive and there is a noisy cold water pipe on the first floor that needs attention but this did not detract from a very enjoyable stay. Old Cornish pub with ale and food 100 steps away!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed the property and its location. The cold water pipe has been checked. We do hope to maybe welcome you back at a future date. Property Owner

  • "This was a lovely holiday home right on the harbour side with a real wow factor."

The positives were it’s location in the town, size and character. However there were a few issues which really detracted from our holiday; 1. The beds were really uncomfortable. This was reported a number of times by previous guests but clearly nothing done to improve it. We were a groups of 6 adults and we could not use the double bed in the 2nd floor bedroom due to the fact the mattress springs and bed movement made it extremely uncomfortable. This meant we had to use the twin beds which were not suitable for adults 6 feet tall and over. This was really disappointing and we felt let down by the owner and Cornish Cottages; 2. The property is described as having two showers, one over the bath. Whilst true, the one over the bath is not particularly useable as it had no shower curtains and was only part of the bath. Therefore 6 adults had to queue to use the only walk in shower on the 2nd floor; 3. The rear patio doors were broken and could not be properly locked…again previously reported but nothing done to remedy it; and 4. The property had a leak from the roof which caused puddles of water in the kitchen. The caretaker attended and admitted this was an issue that they were aware of evidenced by the water marks on the ceiling. They kindly left a bottle of wine as an apology. This is potentially a lovely property but needs urgent love and attention. We left disappointed as we paid good money expecting the obvious issues to have been resolved by either the owner or Cornish Cottages.

Hi We have completed a extensive catch of all the items/concerns noted by some of our recent holiday guests. 1. Replaced both of the double/king size mattress with high quality replacements. 2. Replacement both of the two 1st floor TV with smart TV’s. 3. Replaced the locking gear on the patio doors. 4.Repointed the Terrace. 5. Deep clean entire house 6. Replaced both damaged Sofas. 7. General improvements carried out throughout our holiday home. Property Owner

  • "Although charming, the property lacked some basic facilities, such as bedside lamps, mirrors, clothes storage in all the bedrooms."

Only one shower, and no vehicular access to the property which was not clear from the description. Kitchen cupboards and fridge weren’t very clean. Beds were comfy with nice linen, heating was great and was welcome during the very cold week we stayed.

hello We have two bathrooms sadly we cannot make them into two shower rooms, we are adding more lamps to the bedrooms and will start a deep clean ASAP. Property Owner

  • "A wonderful week here - the location makes this place."

Plenty to do in Mevagissey and great walks out of the harbour. The house is warm and well equipped. The double and king beds are in urgent need of repair and new mattresses however - we stayed here a year ago and hoped this might have been remedied by now based on the reviews. The property was generally clean on the surface but would really benefit from a deep clean - lots of cobwebs on lamps and dust under beds/under sofa cushions - just need a thorough clean. Also the back door lock mechanism is broken so it was hard to get out - as before previous reviews highlighted this so owners will be aware. A shame as these maintenance issues could so easily be fixed and it would be a 5 star property - it’s a magical setting.

hello We did have the repairs carried out on the terrace doors however as with most coastal locations salt is a problem we will endeavor to add this item to our regular maintenance checks and use robust copper grease to keep the mechanism working, we noted cleaning and we will introduce a deep clean halfway through our yearly lets. thank you for your observations Property Owner

  • "Fantastic property, first class location, let down by overall cleanliness: fridge seal is split with mould spores growing (we cleaned and removed what we could see)."

Floor under double bed hadn’t been vacuumed. Shower cubicle glass was cloudy with soap scum. The dishwasher was broken (a note to this effect was left by the cleaners) a repair was promised but didn’t happen. The patio doors locking mechanism was broken making them difficult to open and close, finally the mattress on the double bed was extremely uncomfortable, resulting in an aching back each morning. All of this is a pity because it is a premium property let down by basic maintenance.

Hello, your feedback has been discussed with the owner who will ensure the following: the mattress will be changed, the patio doors and the fridge will be looked at, and a deep clean will be done. The dishwasher has now been sorted. Thank you for your points. - Cornish Cottage Holidays. Property Owner

  • "We didn’t find the double or king beds comfortable."

For 6 people staying a week there was t enough room in the fridge. We also couldn’t put our food in for the first24 hours due to the terrible smell of bleach coming from the fridge.

Hi I'm sorry you found the beds uncomfortable we will look into this and perhaps use a topper to improve the comfort. I've spoken with the housekeeping team sadly they found gone-off fish left in there so they needed to remove the smell, they used a cleaning solution to clean it they said bleach was not used but we will reiterate that these cleaning products should not be used anyway. We have an integrated large fridge? freezer and are not sure with the limited kitchen units we could improve this, however, we hoped you enjoyed your stay and would return next year to see are improvements. The caretaker number listed is never switched on, so seems totally pointless to list it as a way of collecting the key code. The houe itself was great, bit of a trek to walk our stuff up the hill to it as you are unable to park near the front door. The kitchen had a few basics missing eg cheese grater, scissors, brush and dustpan (we searched everywhere for this!). Also seems a shame there is no BBQ on the beautiful courtyard area. Surely that's a must have on a warm summer evening? Bedrooms all a good size.

Hi following on your comments thank you for your thoughts we have left Sykes with two key codes so in future there are no problems accessing the cottage, sadly there is a no open fire policy in place because of the close proximity of our oil tank. We did update the caretaker details to Sykes before Christmas will check and confirm they are completed know. We have know addressed the missing kitchen items. Cheers Property Owner

  • "The outdoor seating is broken and a little tired and a shame the cliff is falling down making it look worse than it maybe."

Maybe you could put a shelf and some bar stools on the harbour wall so you can take in the view as when you are sat down you can’t see anything and the main reason we booked it was the view. The extractor hood doesn’t work and the TV cabinet has a broken hinge. The property was clean but not spotless and feel it could do with a deep clean . All in all we had a great stay and would stay again but important you get honest feedback.

Thank you for completing your feedback. The outdoor furniture is made of solid oak. We will fix and repaint to freshen it up. The Cornish stone hedge beyond the property boundary is on common land and has fallen away, the season has been so busy that the council have been unable to retrieve the stone nor repair the wall, as an interim measure they have placed barriers and signs to protect the general public from possible further slippage. The owners of the property have therefore removed the secondary access from the far side of the courtyard adjacent to this potential issue to protect guest safety. It isn’t possible to put a shelf or bar stools on the harbour wall, as the harbour wall is a listed site and is protected. A new extractor will be fitted in early 2022. The hinge on the TV cabinet door has been checked. The cleanliness issues have been addressed with the Housekeeping Company. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back to Glanville House again soon. Property Owner

  • "Glanville House is in a superb position right on the inner harbour wall of lovey Mevagissey and has all you will need to make a very comfortable and pleasant stay."

You are literally a short stroll from the centre of this small fishing village, with plenty of choices for lunch and dinner, numerous pubs, lots of small cafes serving cream teas, an excellent small local store and veg shop, there are very good places to eat including two small niche restaurants, The Salamander and Alvorada, a lovely Portuguese establishment, while on the main quay The Sharksfin and The Harbour Tavern offer varied good quality menus in a convivial atmosphere, for take-away the Fishermans Chippy and The Fish Grill will not disappoint. The front entrance to Glanville House is on The Cliff, part of the Coastal Path, be aware there are two ways to reach the front door, we called them the ‘Short Leg’ and the ‘Long Leg’, one is a steep sharp climb from East Quay, while the other is longer but a gentler rise from the Fountain Inn. The village is small, but it is surrounded by places of interest that all make for a very nice day out, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and Pinetum Gardens are all close by, and the fantastically quaint Charlestown with its tiny historical harbour is well worth a visit, and where many seafaring TV programmes have been filmed, including Poldark. We were very surprised to find old postcards of Glanville House dating back to the 1900’s, and to see that at least from the outside, it has not changed much, obviously the inside it has been modernised and refurbished, with large comfortable bedrooms, fully furnished living areas and a fully equipped kitchen, the external large open terrace was a real bonus, whilst it remains private, even though we are so close to the harbour quay. There were a few small minor niggles during our stay, a broken shower control, loose toilet seat, broken bedroom blind, but these did not in the slightest spoil our stay, although they could have been fixed quite easily, also felt the contact was very minimal, which is no bad thing, but almost felt impersonal, but do not let these influence you, this house will suit your every need in a holiday rental, we are sure you will not be disappointed, and this small fishing village is well worth the cost.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we're pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Your comments have been taken on board and we will attend to the minor niggles as soon as possible. Property Owner

This resulted in the fridge not cooling properly and drinks without ice. The property is good but needs a good cleaning and a bit of organizing. The place, especially the outside areas, are dirty and un-kept. If we knew there wasn't a working fridge/freezer, we wouldn't have stayed there. But since the advance payment is non-refundable, the Client is basically defenseless. There is also no space to pack food or drinks and the kitchen specifically totally disorganized. Instructions about parking for off-loading is not clear resulting in us having to walk with our luggage for a long distance. We did not manage to work out how the front door lock works and the key-safe is also not functioning properly, unless one knows a secret or two?

  • "Glanville House a completely brilliant property."

A landmark in Mevagisey. It's on all the historic photographs and drawings, on the harbour side. We booked it for my mum-in-law's 85th birthday so it was very important to have a lovely place for her. And Glanville House is very special indeed. We have been to Mevagissey before but this time was incredibly special because of the property location and quality. The terrace is such a great place to watch the life of the fishing village. The kitchen and dining area were immaculate in terms of decor and equipment. The sitting rooms were beautifully furnished and comfortable. All four bedrooms were lovely places to settle into. My mum in law felt it was a holiday of a lifetime. I would recommend it - and the staff who look after it - wholeheartedly. I wish it was my house. I would never leave it.

  • "The location is absolutely fantastic - the ‘cottage’ is more like a villa and was ideal for my 40th birthday celebrations with my family."

The well-equipped kitchen-diner is the heart of the house and due to the good weather we had no need to use the large lounge area, we spent the majority of the daylight hours on the terrace. There are 4 large double bedrooms that easily accommodate 8 guests. The only observation would be whilst it is made very clear from the outset that parking is an additional cost, with 3 cars for the week perhaps the £135 could be absorded in the overall cost like other Cornish Cottages in the area.

  • "Lovely house which is of a very high standard."

Good facilities and well equipped. Would benefit from a barbecue on the terrace. We couldn’t get the terrace lights to work so couldn’t sit out at night with books or card games. The fun of overlooking the harbour was a real pleasure. The minute you sit down at the table, you lose the view because of the wall - what about the table sitting back on a raised area?

We were advised by Mevagissey Harbour master not to have open flame cooking equipment near the fishing boats . Sadly the height of the wall is a safety requirement and as the house is Grade 2 listed we cannot alter the exterior appearance of the wall by introducing glass panels to allow a better view of the harbour. This is something which we had considered. We have looked into raising the height of the sitting area, but felt that as there was limited space on the terrace, we would stay at one level. Thank you for taking time to comment. Property Owner

Rental photo of property does not meet expectations . Repairs need to be looked into and updated .

Thank you for your feed back. Our house is furnished with old style period pieces and antiques which can sometimes fail to meet the wear and tear we would have hoped for. Accordingly we have looked into this. We have sent the kitchen chairs away to be reupholstered and provided replacement chairs. We have rewritten the instructions for putting out the waste and hope this clears up any misunderstanding on this. Our house is in a small community were there are no pubic bins, and there is a tendency for folk to use our bins for their rubbish. I am sure you would agree this is unfair and accordingly we use locks to prevent this. The table lamp was broken by a previous holiday maker and we were unaware of this. The lamp has been sent away for repairs. Property Owner
