  • "This sympathetically updated and tastefully furnished cottage exceeded our expectations."

It was rather more spacious than we had anticipated and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay in a quiet location with sea views, particularly from the upstairs bedrooms. There are many places to visit in the immediate area, including beaches, rugged coastline and mining heritage sites, so we did not travel very far during our stay. However, despite the sea being so tantalisingly close, the public footpath connecting Trevowhan to the coastal path was rather overgrown with nettles and brambles at the time of our visit, so reaching the coast on foot was not quite as straightforward as we had anticipated.

The owners can't do enough to help you enjoy your stay, from the welcome of flowers and wine-and a bottle of beer for my husband! and cold refreshing water in the fridge, to the care they took to replace a faulty appliance. (Not a year old, under warranty and not their fault). We want a,quiet, relaxing holiday, and the house and area provides that. Shopping in St Just and over the gorgeous road to Penzance are easy, and beaches are an easy drive away (We tend to use Longrock or Marazion for the dog).but often, we stay in and sit in the sun. That said, plenty walks and places to explore. We've lost track of how many times we've been to Trevowhan-but we'll be back soon.

  • "Trevowhan house is a gem of a holiday cottage."

Beautifully and sympathetically styled, warm, cosy and with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay. If only we could have booked some dry weather, too! This was our second stay here, but this time the weather wasn’t kind to us. However, if the weather dictates that your holiday will largely be indoors, this is the perfect place. Plenty of wood is provided for the log burners if you should need extra heat or even if you just want to provide a lovely ambiance in either of the reception rooms. There is a huge selection of books, covering every genre (including children’s books) and a decent sized TV. There is also a digital radio. The master bedroom is extremely spacious, beds are comfortable, with good quality bedding and there are throws all over the cottage if you should need extra warmth. The views from the bedrooms, on a clear day, are absolutely lovely. The owners, Tamsin & Matt, have kitted the cottage out very thoughtfully and have ensured that you have everything you need. I’m a little concerned about writing a review saying how much we love Trevowhan House, as we will definitely want to return and don’t want all the dates to be booked up (!) but it is definitely a cottage we will return to again and again.

It exceeded our expectations. The property has been sympathetically restored to a high standard, it has all the mod cons one needs but without detracting from its originality. The rooms are spacious, the location is rural and quiet but within a few miles of Penzance, St Ives and all amenities. Waking up to the sea view from the bedroom window is good for the soul along with the dramatic coastal walks on your doorstep. I'll be booking again!

A lovely place to explore this area that we love so much. Ideal for a family or group of friends. Close to the great Gurnards Head (have a meal there if you can) and the Tinner’s Arms. Not far also from St Just but still remote enough with lots of lovely walks from the door, or a short drive/bus away. The beds were comfortable, the living spaces cosy with the fires burning. The sea views were stunning with amazing sunsets. Did not use car all week, utilised the open air bus service when we had walked to far or had one too many at Gurnards Head or The Tinners in Zennor. Food also great at both. Tamsin, the owner was very obliging, I made her aware that we would not arrive until after dark and she very kindly ensured that the lights were switched on. Everything was perfect, and we could not find a fault with anything. The location is stunning, and also very quiet. It is the perfect place to de-stress and unwind. I came away feeling very relaxed and that I had slept well too. The bed is sooo comfortable! It was hard sometimes to pull myself out of it in the morning. The house was spotlessly clean everywhere. We travel a lot, and have to say this is the cleanest house that we have ever rented. The bed linen and towels were good quality, as was the mattress and pillows, and also exceptionally clean.. The house is beautiful as is the scenery from the windows. Pulling apart the curtains in the morning to a scene of surrounding glistening turquoise coloured sea is amazing. The moorland is also beautiful, and so interesting too. The whole area is. The décor in the house was also good quality and also the art work very impressive. We loved the SMEG oven in the kitchen too! The Owner was very friendly, polite, easy going and helpful. She also responded very quickly to any query. We highly recommend this beautiful house to stay in, and will most certainly be booking it again in the future!

Yes,we have visited several times! Tamsin and Matt, the owners make us so welcome with flowers and wine, and provided a brand new combination oven/microwave as the oven was playing up-no complaints there as it cooked perfectly. The house suits us (2 oldies and a dog)perfectly, and I imagine a family with 3 children would be fine. The house is furnished in accordance with its age and location-if you want the character of Cornwall, this is brilliant ! Even the neighbours in Trevowhan welcomed us back. It's countryside with a fantastic sea view to wake up to-missing it already. If you take time to discover the beaches and hidden gems around here, this is a fantastic base.

  • "A really nice cottage, although there was a strong damp musty smell on arrival."

The kitchen was really well equipped. We had problems with the oven (it didn’t work) but the owners came out immediately to see if they could rectify the problem. They even offered to buy us fish and chips because we couldn’t cook our meal, which was a lovely gesture. The cottage is furnished in a rustic style but there’s a fine line between rustic and basic. Parking is a problem, we managed to squeeze 2 cars onto the drive but our third car had to be parked away from the property. The biggest disappointment was the beds. The bunk room is tiny, and I mean tiny, I feel the advertising for the cottage should state that it’s not really suitable for 6 adults. The reason I have given a low score for comfort is due to the double beds. We have never slept on such uncomfortable mattresses before. Hard, lumpy and old. To be totally honest, it’s just a little insulting to be expected to sleep in these beds as paying guests. Because of this We wouldn’t recommend the property to others and we certainly wouldn’t return. However put in decent mattresses and we’ll be happy to do so.

Thank you for acknowledging that we were highly apologetic for the oven not working. This was unfortunate and we were disappointed that we could not find an immediate solution during your brief stay with us. We are however puzzled by your claim that there was a damp smell on arrival. We cleaned the property ourselves the morning of your arrival and certainly did not notice anything. Trevowhan is an old granite house however we have gone to great lengths to make sure the property is not damp including most recently lime plastering the bathroom. As regards the mattresses, we ourselves slept at Trevowhan two weeks before your arrival and slept beautifully. The mattresses are turned regularly and are certainly not in our opinion lumpy or hard. The Sykes listing states very clearly that the third bedroom is a bunk room explicitly referencing the fact that is “particularly suitable for children’. We can only assume that guests read the description of Trevowhan carefully before booking. We will however liaise with Sykes to be even more explicit. The listing also clearing states that there is 'Off road parking for 1 car', we agree that the house is not suitable for three cars. We were disappointed that you chose to park a car on the front garden instead. We suspect that you did not read the email that I sent prior to your arrival giving additional parking details & requesting that you “do not put any smaller items of rubbish loose in the bin (including dog waste bags) as the local refuse collectors have to move the bags by hand as the roads are too narrow for a regular size lorry". We take great pride in Trevowhan House and take all feedback personally, acting on areas to improve when the points raised are legitimate. Property Owner

The cottage is period style in the main but decor and furniture in keeping with that style. Despite it being August, we did need to put the heaters on in bedrooms overnight, but they heat the rooms up well. Plus, feather pillows which is uncommon in most rentals but a really plus point for me, I am a bit princess and the pea, but struggle with hollowfibre pillows, so I slept great with these! Waking up each morning to beautiful sea views also a bonus. We used the wood burning stove in the living room a couple of times just to boost warmth. Without the heating, the property would be damp and cold. The kitchen well equipped though. On arrival a lovely bunch of meadow flowers in dining room, and flowers in kitchen window as well as bottle of wine. The small touches like this make the difference. If could make a suggested improvement, the larger bedroom could take a king size bed, and this would enhance comfort for guests. Otherwise we had a really enjoyable stay.

Close to the beach with a sea view and within easy travelling distance of all that Cornwall has to offer. Bed linens were immaculate and the beds really comfy. There were plenty of sitting areas to give everyone their own space when needed. The only draw back for our party was the internet connection. Wether it’s for social media, kids games, tv or work, pretty much everyone needs a decent WiFi signal these days and was a must for us as there was no phone signal or 4g. At present the owners are paying this for nothing as it literally does nothing. That said we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

the cottage had very strong damp and dusty smell to it so had to buy air freshener and scented candles to try and mask. this property wasn’t for us and didn’t meet our needs

The cottage is one of 6/7 houses in the hamlet of Trevowhan near the visage if Morvah. It is in the very west of Cornwall with uninterrupted views to the ocean. The nearest shop is a 5/10 minute drive away in the village of Pendeen. There is broadband at the house however neither Trevowhan House nor any other property in the hamlet have super fast broadband speeds due to the hamlets distance from the cabinet. The broadband capacity works perfectly for checking emails or social media. It is less effective when streaming. There is a new tv at the house with multiple channels and two radios similarly with multiple channels. The cooker has always worked. It is a smeg with numerous hobs and a large oven. Trevowhan house is a charming old Cornish granite building. We have recently undertaken extensive annual renovation work including this year the fitting of an air circulation system, the lime repointing of an external wall and lime plastering in the bathroom. There is also a new ceiling in the stairwell. The house is very loved and we have numerous guests who return regularly to Trevowhan. We are confident that you too will appreciate its charm and character. Property Owner

A downside for us was the very large gap under the gate which dogs could get under straight onto the road, if this could be blocked it would be a plus. Little seating area to the rear of the house had no gate so not great for dogs at all. Nice views over fields to the sea, on the coast road, nearest amenities Pendeen.

The charming village of Morvah is situated on the Penwith Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding natural Beauty, in North West Cornwall. The name Morvah is believed to derive from the Cornish Morveth meaning 'a place by the sea'. In addition to the church which dates back to the 15th century, there is a gallery and café in the village showcasing the arts and crafts of local Cornish artists. Just outside the village are several historical sites from the Iron Age and Neolithic times.
An open top bus service stops at the village on a route between St Ives and Lands End. This is a great way to get around without parking worries or a relaxing way to get home after enjoying walking sections of the stunning coastal path.

Perfect for exploring this lesser-known area of the county, there are so many fantastic things to see and do; from exploring the rugged coastline to pulling on your walking boots and criss-crossing the beautiful countryside, with public footpaths at every turn! The beaches in this section of Cornwall are fantastic and there are so many coastal villages and attractions that will keep you busy. Enjoy shopping in Penzance, discover hidden gems in St Ives' many harbour-front galleries, or find the perfect trinkets to take home in the novelty shops of Mousehole. The open-air Minack Theatre overlooking the stunning beach at Porthcurno should definitely go on the 'to visit' list, and you can also enjoy visiting the many filming locations of the BBC's, Poldark.
