  • "Had a lovely holiday at Splatt House."

Bed was comfortable.Bedding very clean and fresh. The whole house was clean and welcoming. Peaceful and relaxing. It's decoration was different and interesting, unusual floor tiling. All very different! Lovely garden.Secure surroundings for dogs. The house was very well equipped. There wasn't a microwave there, something we use daily but obviously this might not matter to others. We managed. Bowls, blankets and towels for the dogs. Pretty walk to Porthtowan past the river and through the woods.Fresh, tasty lunches in the Porthtowan Cafe. There were fresh flowers and the most delicious Brownies left for us. The owner was easily contactable friendly and approachable We would highly recommend this cottage. We would definitely return.

Such care and thought has gone in to the decorating of the property. Lovely garden with lots to see. My dogs enjoyed their walks and stay at Splatt House.

  • "A beautiful stay."

Only a couple of days with my brother's but we very much enjoyed the time we were in the house. Worth pointing out to the owner though, there was a smell coming from the bathroom, as a plumber I can with some certainty say this was coming from one of the wastes, probably the bath waste. That said it did not impede on our enjoyment too much. Will definitely be back for another stay with my wife next year as not only a comfortable place to stay but equally important for us is the location of the property, perfect for our favourite location's. Highly recommend. Mickie.

Hi Mickie, So glad you enjoyed Splatt and many thanks for the heads up re. the odour in the bathroom, will check it out immediately. Have a great Christmas. Cheers Phillippa Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback which we have passed to the owner and they will investigate further. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Splatt House and hope you'll choose the property for your next Cornish break. Property Owner

  • "Well what a lovely quirky find this was."

Set back from the main road where you can get a bus to Truro and porthtowan the other way. Pub in walking distance and the best beach when low tide! Just follow the instructions in the house (chapel porch beach). 3 good sized bedrooms and a lovely sunny garden to laze in. They have thought of everything! Even the dog. We will back!

  • "The two double beds are so uncomfortable."

They need new mattresses urgently, it did ruin the holiday not getting a good nights sleep.

Hi Dean, I'm so sorry that you found the beds uncomfortable and that this affected the enjoyment of your holiday. The the mattress in the master is new, but I agree the other double is due for a change and I will be replacing it this month. Thank you for prompting me on this issue. Cheers Phillippa Thank you for your feedback. Comfort and mattresses are of course a personal preference but the owner will consider your comments when they are making updates to the property at the end of the season. Property Owner

  • "Traditional Cornish cottage in quiet surroundings, a short drive (or decent walk), to the stunning coastline with beautiful turquoise sea in the little coves."

The cottage had a home from home feel, and although we did have a problem with the hot water system the owner was easily contacted and a plumber was promptly sent. A great holiday!

Phillippa and Densil have done an amazing job of the new back door and veranda, we spent loads of time out there. It took me a while to realise that they had replaced the windows it has been done so well. Next year booked already!

  • "Loved the quirkiness of the cottage, the detail is awesome."

Loved the location, which was peaceful yet easy to get to where we wanted to visit. I’d definitely come back here again. The owner is very kind and helpful too. My only two comments are the lack of washing machine and that you can hear every single noise and step made. No tv could be on in the evening after anyone went to bed etc

  • "What a wonderful cottage."

Beautifully and individually designed we felt so at home. Everything we could conceivably need was provided. Splatt House is ideally located for so many different activities - wonderful cliff walks on the doorstep, excellent surfing beaches only a few minutes drive away, history at every turn. We particularly enjoyed walking from the cottage through parc shady and along the beaches and cliffs to Perranporth and a boat trip down the Fal from Bodmin to Falmouth and on to the Roseland peninsula. We cannot rate this cottage highly enough. On warm days, the garden is a delightful place with buzzards flying overhead and on cooler evenings, the open log fire was so cosy. We were greeted on our arrival with home baked brownies, fresh flowers in the rooms and a wealth of details of places to visit in the vicinity. 10/10.

  • "Splatt House is an immaculately clean excellently equipped and well located holiday let."

We were 5 adults and enjoyed our stay very much. Beautiful walks right on the doorstep (1.5 mile walk to the best beach in Cornwall down leafy quiet tracks with stunning views) and a very short drive to many other coastal villages and towns, including lovely St. Agnes. We highly recommend. Splatt House is an old rural cottage so be realistic in your expectations; no dishwasher or washing machine and creaky floorboards etc. We loved it.

  • "Not only was Splatt house in a perfect location it was an artistic treat!"

The mosaic flooring downstairs was like being in a sweetie shop, not knowing where to look. Very relaxing atmosphere, buzzards soaring overhead and even a distant peacock! The house had enough room for all six of us plus a very energetic puppy. What a treat! Wished we'd stayed for longer.

  • "This is our first experience of staying in a holiday cottage so had nothing to compare it to."

However, despite the weather, we had a lovely stay with our friends. The location was ideal to use as a base for the various places we had planned to visit. The only thing I would suggest is to have additional armchairs instead of the armless easy chairs. It is an experience we would like to repeat.

About the location

MOUNT HAWKE

Porthtowan 2 miles ; St Agnes 2.5 miles ; Truro 7.5 miles

Mount Hawke is a small village just outside St Agnes and Porthtowan on the north Cornish coast. Once heavily involved in the local copper mining industry, today Mount Hawke is quiet and mainly residential. There is a church which is dedicated to St John the Baptist, and a very good gastro pub – The Old School Bar & Kitchen – which is, as the name suggests, in a restored, traditional school building. There is also a Post Office, a couple of shops, a primary school, village park and Cornwall’s largest indoor skate park. Porthtowan beach is a pleasant walk from the village, through woodland and a pretty valley, and St Agnes Beacon and the coastal footpath are also within easy reach. Kayak hire and tours are available at St Agnes, as are surf lessons. There are also riding stables at nearby Goonbell, which offer countryside hacks and treks as well as pub hacks, summer picnic rides and children’s Pony Days.
