  • "A lovely cosy cottage with good quality amenities."

The TV gave us a few issues whereby it had to be returned every time we turned it on as it would lose certain channels, but this was no big issue. Location couldn't be more perfect for the village. Tucked away up a side street so hardly any passing pedestrians or noise. Very close to parking area. I agree with some other comments with regards to the stairs, if you're not physically fit or have mobility issues, the stairs would be a problem as they are quite steep.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you had some issues with the TV, The TV is actually only a month old but it seems that there are some issues with losing channels when the TV is turned off after being automatically tuned. We are going to manually tune the TV, so this will hopefully stop this from happening again. It does mention on the website that the stairs from the ground floor are steep, so the property may not be suitable for the infirm or elderly. Aside from the above we are very glad that you enjoyed both the cottage and its amenities and the location of the cottage and hope to maybe welcome you back at a future date. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was ok but needs car parking or st least a permit as parking became expensive."

Wouldn’t recommend Mousehole as nothing there, nowhere for dog to run around and locals extremely rude.

I'm sorry you've had this extremely unusual unfriendly experience in Mousehole. We've never heard this before from any of our previous guests (in fact, very much the opposite). We were in contact with you during your stay - I advised that I was informed by the Harbour Master the car park around the other side of the harbour was fully open over that particular ‘festival’ weekend (also £5 per day). Our guests (and regular guests) find there is plenty to do in Mousehole, such as The Sea, Salt and Sails festival which was beginning during your stay! Property Owner

The welcome tray, including milk in the fridge was much appreciated after a long journey. The cottage itself was furnished to a very high standard with very good quality bedding and towels. Mousehole is a great place to stay although make sure you have lots of change as the card payment system for the car parks wasn’t working for most of our stay! Communication from the owner and Sykes Cottages was helpful and much appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback and comments which are much appreciated. We are quick to update our direction changes (shop closures etc) but unfortunately are unable to do this ourselves. All requests are submitted to Sykes where we must wait for these to be actioned. We will look further into this and apologise for any inconvenience. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a lovely place, great restaurants within walking distance, excellent bus service."

The negatives were no parking ( imagine this is more of a prob in the summer) and no garden or outdoor seating area but all this is made clear in property description and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Many thanks for a lovely week.

    Reviewed by Alison4.4Mar 2022

  • "We really enjoyed staying at Mole Cottage and thought that it offered good value for money for the week in February that we chose."

It is furnished nicely and described quite accurately on most counts and well provided with kitchen equipment. It had evidently had a decor refresh through the preceding weeks and was in great condition and very clean. Quite small and possibly could be challenging space-wise having 4 people in the property. A few thoughts; 1. The welcome pack with Scones and Shortbread was a nice gesture and much appreciated. 2. It might be worth having someone switch on the heating (or at the very least leave it on 14 celsius tickover) ahead of guests arriving in the Winter mpnths - it took two days to get the place reasonably warm, thereafter it was fine and warm. 3. Parking - We think the issues around car parking in Mousehole should be made more conspicuous in the listing as even in Winter we had trouble getting parked some evenings. In Summer it must be an absolute nightmare and we would have been very disappointed if this had not been made clear beforehand. The prospect of having to use the Mousehole bus and park in Penzance would not have been well received. 4. Stairs - I think greater emphasis in the listing should also be given to the steps, the lower stairs and their steepness. The listing does mention this but it needs greater emphasis. The stairs from the living area down to the kitchen / bathroom are very narrow and steep, as are the entrance steps. We are both very fit, able bodied people yet we felt that anyone who was in any way limited in their physical confidence or mobility would really struggle to cope with these stairs and front steps, this should be very clearly highlighted. There is no way to avoid the lower stairs as they are the only access to the kitchen and bathroom. Likewise if we had had young children these stairs would have presented a considerable risk. This needs to be explicitly clear in the listing. However, Mole Cottage is in a great location in Mousehole, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Taking the above points into consideration we would recommend but only to able bodied guests or those with children aged perhaps 8 upwards. It is not suitable for anyone with any mobility issues or who is not confident about using steep stairs or steps.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we are happy that you found Mole Cottage to be in a great location in Mousehole, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Most of the buildings here, being a historical village do not have private parking, but guests can use the public car parks, of which there are three in the village. As a traditional fisherman’s cottage, we are especially careful to highlight within the description that there are three floors within the property, and that there are steep access and internal steps that may not be suitable for the infirm or elderly, as noted, children under the age of 6 are not permitted at the property. Regarding the heating, there is also a wood burner, which is made up ready for guests’ arrival off peak. In addition to this, we have electric heaters in each room however we like our guests to arrive to a fresh, clean and well-ventilated cottage. We’ve not had any previous concerns over a party of four guests staying, but we are in the process of making it even more comfortable for a family of four with two new sofas and we hope that you will return to visit again. The cottage itself is a traditional fishing cottage that is wonderfully well equipped. Yes there are a few stairs to negotiate but it’s a fantastic place to unwind and chill out in. If it’s exploring the wider area, popping to the Ship for a cheeky afternoon drink or buying fresh fish from Newlyn fish market then putting the beautiful log burner on and opening a bottle (or two!) if a relaxing week is what your after then Mole Cottage is a place to visit! The Tremayne Guest House and the Post Office no longer exist so apart from The Ship Inn there were no other landmarks to help. It would be more helpful for future guests to have edited instructions. Other than that we had a very enjoyable holiday and the cottage was very comfortable and clean. We had been warned about the stairs - they were indeed steep (especially up to the front door) and a long way down to the toilet from the bedroom!!! Car parking the harbour car parks were always full so we had to park in the main car park which was 9 pounds each day instead of the 3 pounds each day you stated apart from that everything else was excellent

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Mousehole is an historic fishing village, most of the buildings do not have private parking and guests must use the public car parks. The village has three car parks and the road out to Newlyn has several lay-bys for parking. Closest to the property are the two harbour car parks: North Quay and South Quay. These are owned by the Mousehole Harbour Authority and currently cost £3 per day to park. If these are full, and this varies throughout the day, The Parade car park is privately owned and currently costs £9 per day. We are pleased to hear that everything else was excellent and look forward to welcoming you again at Mole Cottage. Property Owner

The accommodation is totally unsuitable for older people or those with young children. The stairs are treacherous and steep. This is not made clear in the advertisement.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we are very sorry that you struggled with the property. As a traditional fishermans cottage we are especially careful to highlight within the description that there are three floors within the property, that there is steep access and that it may not be suitable for the infirm or elderly. Children under the age of 6 are not permitted at the property. As you can see by the many positive reviews, most people feel the description is accurate and have a great time here. . The stairs down to the basement (where the bathroom and kitchen are) were VERY steep, which others have mentioned. Although that wasn't a problem for us, I think this could be highlighted more in the description - it says that the cottage is not suitable for under-6s but I agree with some of the comments in the book in the cottage that it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues e.g. the elderly.

  • "The cottage, location was as expected and we had a lovely time."

Our only 'gripe' was not with the accommodation but with the building work being carried out on the roof of the next cottage. Monday through to Friday at 08.00 each day, BBC radio 6 music was aired to all and sundry in Cherry Garden Street (and beyond) and was audible in every room at Mole Cottage. Luckily we had planned to get up around this time and did so with a nice cup of tea in bed in readiness for the day ahead. That said the music was also occasionally accompanied by the builder regularly clearing the phlegm from his lungs onto what we hoped would be some vessel of sorts (and not the roof). As you can imagine, having being woken at 8 am and then drinking our tea to the accompaniment of these sounds was, in our opinion rather inconsiderate and we wondered what other guests might have made of this if they were looking forward to getting up later or planned to stay at the accommodation during the day.
