  • "The water in the bath was very slow to run out when you took a shower due to the mechanical plug hardly opening, so that you were standing in a couple of inches of water by the time you finished."

The handle on the shower screen was also loose. My only other criticism is that the bath towels were far too small. You should be able to comfortably wrap a bath towel around your waist (I’m 38 inch). These were child sizes. Some may think I’m picky; just my opinion! Other than these minor points, the cottage was fine, with a good view from the sun room, was centrally heated, had a log burner (which we didn’t use), had a comfortable bed and a well equipped kitchen. TV and Wi-Fi internet were ok, and TV in the bedroom was a bonus. We were able to park right outside which was great. We were informed by Sykes cottages that the owners would meet us on arrival at 5pm to give us the keys. This wasn’t the case. On arrival the key was just left in the outside door lock, for us to let ourselves in. As we left at 4.30am on our last day, we never met or had any dealings with the owners. The cost of the cottage for the week was good value for the time of year (mid Feb), and it is well placed for visiting Hayle, Helston, St Ives, Penzance and the surrounding areas. If asked would I stay there again, the answer would be ‘yes’.

  • "Everything was good, very comfortable, easy location and lots of sights to see."

Good location for pubs and restaurants too if choosing to eat out. A minor note - that did not spoil our stay - was the presence of a slight dampness in the double bedroom, clamy clothes etc.

Hello Adrian please except my late reply ,glad you had a good stay at Edwin’s view , we are currently looking at the issue that you raised with the bedroom , It looks like the issue according to my builder was with the back wall behind the bed the ground level behind the bed outside was higher than the floor level inside giving rise to water ingress . Kind regards Jonathan Property Owner

  • "In general the accommodation was great."

Just a couple of niggles. Central Heating needed setting up as it was coming on in the middle of the night and cold in the evening. The settee in the lounge was uncomfortable in our opinion. Very good points The large TV Comfortable double bed. The dining table and chairs were brilliant. The kitchen had everything you needed for your holiday. The furniture in the conservatory was comfy. The hosts let you get on with your holiday but we’re there if you required them. Dog friendly, with a safe private garden for the dog to go out.

Thank you for your feedback, which we always welcome. We have noted your comments regarding the central heating and sofa. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful stay at Edwins View, only problem we had was my wife who has knee surgery was unable to get into bath/shower as bath was too deep to step into, also a shower mat might be a good idea for husband as he nearly slipped in shower area."

Also would be a help if instruction leaflets for appliances were provided, as could not get electric oven to work and could not get dvd player to work.( could be because we are not up to date with tech!). But apart from this we had a wonderful peaceful time, and met all the animals!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. The owner has now added a grab handle, a shower mat and instructions for the appliances. Property Owner

  • "Lovely location, with peaceful, pretty outlook over fields."

The cottage stayed relatively cool through the heatwave, which was a godsend. The best thing was the privacy, the outlook for stargazing and the dog-friendliness of the enclosed garden, although we were disappointed that there was no field to safely walk him off the lead. The kitchen was light on glasses and plates so we had to keep washing up. The photos are really quite artfully taken as the reality was more lived-in. That's the only thing that would stop us booking here again.

  • "Everything was really nice at Edwins View, our only concern was on arrival we nearly dropped down the waste water manhole in the entrance that was covered with a galvanized tin sheet instead of a proper manhole cover."

not a problem once we found it then we new to be wary of it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at our property. Thank you for bringing this to out attention. We have now replaced the manhole cover and the issue has been resolved. We hope to see you again sometime soon. Property Owner

Everything you needed for a nice pleasant stay. Lovely location, perfect for exploring south west Cornwall. Our only niggles were the TV being on the wall, we find it uncomfortable to watch at this height and put another settee in the conservatory, we spent most of our evenings in here, relaxing and reading. It's quiet and a lovely view. Overall a lovely cottage.

  • "Should be advertised as part of a complex of holiday let’s."

We thought it was a stand alone holiday let. Privacy severely compromised by parked cars right by the lounge and bedrooms. Needed to keep blinds drawn. TV at a neck aching height. Shower screen not properly sealed, water cascaded onto the floor. Bathroom vent did not work. Oven very dirty and rusty. The whole barn although charming and rustic had an unfinished feel about it. Definitely not 4 star property. Never once had personal contact with Sykes. Felt very automated and impersonal.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and bring these matters to our attention. Please accept our apologies about the oven, this was an oversight on our behalf. We will be addressing the other points mentioned and additional parking will be available shortly to ease the privacy issue. In addition, we are considering your comments about description of the listing and looking to amend this. Property Owner

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for it's annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with it's National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
