Great location. Good communication with the owners. Highly recommended.

  • "We had a very good week at The Halt despite the weather!"

The property was well decorated, comfortable, the fixtures and fittings were in good order, the shower was very powerful and plenty of hot water, indeed, the water coming out of the taps was extremely hot. Parking is directly in front of the property, there is a good, secluded patio to the rear which is very quiet, private and in the sun (sometimes!) with ample chairs provided. The Wi-Fi however was almost non existent and we had to go down the drive to pick up a signal because the router is in the house over the road. The owners son had purchased a strong booster by the end of our week which he intended to install over the weekend. A little too late for us but should be better for future guests. The owners kindly provided a welcome pack including scones, clotted cream, strawberry jam, tea, coffee, milk and sugar. There are several electrical items in The Halt which it would be helpful if there were some instructions for but there were none. You have to press and guess! Sykes website details are incorrect. They say that parking is over the road, it is not, it is in front of The Halt. Sykes also overlook mentioning that the parking is shared with the property over the road. Alright if they only bring one vehicle but two or more would probably mean some shunting. Sykes also say that there is a washing machine and a dishwasher, there is not as "George" pointed out in September 2020 but still Sykes have not corrected their website details. We are keen cyclists in our mid seventies and The Halt is ideally positioned in the middle of the Camel Trail between Wenford Bridge and Padstow. In view of "George's" comments we Emailed Sykes in October 2021 and they came back to say that they had checked with the owners and there was indeed a washing machine and dishwasher! I spoke to the owners on arrival who said they had never been contacted by Sykes! As cyclists there is a need to wash and dry our cycling kit each day. On Wednesday morning the ceiling lights tripped out but the problem was quickly rectified by the owners and never reoccured. Despite Sykes inaccuracies on their website we still enjoyed our stay. What could be done to improve the property (Wishful thinking!!)? :- Shed for bikes (a must for us), shaving socket for electric razors, a Porch to put the key safe under so that you could get the key out, unlock the door, take your shoes off, sheltered from the rain. And finally on our wishful thinking list, a safe. Would we go back, yes, if there was a washing machine and a shed.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at The Halt."

It was a perfectly little place for two people to stay and I would highly recommend it. It is literally on the camel trail with one of the windows actually looking out onto the trail. All in all we had a lovely, cozy stay and would definitely go back

  • "We loved staying at the halt there was just a few things that ruined the experience."

The mattress needs to be replaced my partner and I both couldn't sleep on it as when we laid on it we could feel the edges of the divan underneath we had to go and spend out on a mattress topper to make the bed barrable but it still wasn't comfortable. This is very important part of a holiday and it really has made us question weather we book self catering accommodations in the future. The hot water runs out very quickly so we found ourselves needing to space out washing up and showers to conserve hot water. This could have easily been noted in a welcome pack. It might be worth noting in a welcome pack that the parking is shared as this made us anxious the first night when a new car arrived that restricted our access to and from the property. The listing is incorrect this hasn't ruined our stay but could misslead future renters.

Hi, Regarding your feed back, we were not contacted or made aware of any of your issues. We have never had a complaint before about the power shower and hot water system from the many couples who have stayed at The Halt . We have had the system checked by a plumber and it is working perfectly. Regarding the mattress, it is a new quality memory foam one and we are sorry you did not find it comfortable. As for the safe off road parking, we were surprised to read of a problem as there is enough parking for up to 4 cars to park . People normally pleased to find safe off road parking. Hope to see you another time, we are always available to help. Kind regards Mike & Kathryn Property Owner

  • "Amazing place stay and is on the camel trail half way between Bodmin and Wadebridge."

Also it’s within walking distance of a cafe that serves wonderful cake and Cornish booze. It’s on the outskirts of Bodmin which makes it easy access for Cornwall. Majority of the distance is between 30 mins to an 1 hour and 30 mins max! Would 100% advise staying here if your a couple. The only thing I would say is that the glassware is on the smaller side (would recommend taking your own) and the freezer is really small and some stuff thaws as it hasn’t got a proper door.

  • "The cleanliness of the home was good."

The bed and the couch were very uncomfortable. The Property was miss-sold, you stated in your sales blurb that the property has a washing machine and a dishwasher I think you deliberately misled me and other customers. If we had known there was no washing machine we wouldn't have booked. I will be looking at your brochure to make sure you ammend the description

  • "In an excellent location for a cycling or walking holiday right on the camel trail."

The owners have the tea room next door which is perfect for a spot of lunch and a drink. The cycling path into Padstow is excellent all flat and traffic free. One thing that would be nice at the property would be a hut or shed at the back of the property to keep your bike in.

everything was really good apart from the toaster doesnt work kept tripping the electric board also maybe would be nice to have wireless and cars came and park at the property which did disturb a bit apart from that all good.

  • "Booked on line for convenience which didn't take long."

The Halt cottage was ideal place for relaxing. The patio area was private and we sat outside most mornings after breakfast, the sun was shining through the surrounding trees. So peaceful you seemed to be in another world. Bodmin was close by which is a lovely small town to visit. There's plenty of places of interest. Bodmin jail was most interesting. National Trust house not far away and there's always Padstow which is a lovely village on the coast. Pencarrow House and gardens was delightful, in the grounds a lovely coffee shop with a variety of cakes etc. Of course there's the local vineyard to visit. Across from the cottage there's a lovely cafe for cream teas, lunches and drinks. Railway station just a short walk from the cottage. Plenty of pathways for bikers and walkers. So pleased with our holiday.
