  • "Cottage was dated, in desperate need of some upgrade, carpet's were threadbare, cobwebs everywhere, plug sockets all in the wrong place nothing functionable."

We've stayed in approximately 8/9 different places in St Just over 20 year's and this is by far the worst. We're here for another week but thank goodness we are staying in a lovely place for the 3rd time for our 2nd week.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are surprised to hear your comments as we have just recently had a property inspection where Mollys Cottage was found to be much loved and clean as previously mentioned in earlier reviews. We have taken your comments on board, and will address any issues during our upcoming visit. Property Owner

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your stay at Mollys Cottage. We are sorry you had difficulty parking, we do advertise that parking is on a quiet road and not a designated space. Property Owner

  • "The house was tidy, clean and as advertised."

Good location in St Just with lots of pubs and a shop in walking distance. There was usually parking outside the house or if there wasn’t then the free town car park is just a few minutes away opposite the library which we didn’t mind parking on however this would probably be a bit of a pain if you had small children or had limited mobility. The house was comfortable with everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. We did notice a damp patch on the carpet on arrival, I messaged the property owner directly but didn’t get a response. We assumed this was just due to cleaning but on our last evening noticed that there seemed to be a small leak from the bathroom. This appears to be the seal on the bath so probably needs looking in to and resealing.

  • "The parking is an absolute nightmare and as such had a very negative effect on our holiday."

To have a 80% of a parking spot we had to be back in the property by 4.30 and daren’t go out again. The information states there is a large free car park in the town, some 10-15 minutes away BUT seems not to know that this car park is constantly full. We have friends in St. Just and they tell us some of this is due to people holidaying on the Scilly Isles park their cars in St. Just because it is free whilst the charges at the airport are very high. Also the narrow streets of the former miners cottages do not have on site parking, many of the roads have double yellow lines and so the residents also use this car park for overnight parking. The cottage itself was charming and furnished to a very good standard with good quality fittings but because of the parking difficulty we would not consider it again.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you found Mollys Cottage to be charming. Parking is available on the street outside of the property on a first come first serve basis, it is unusual that there was not space in the large free car park in town but unfortunately we have no control over this. • "Cottage was lovely however with the housekeeping asking us to leave the cottage exactly how we found it ( including the stripping of the beds) we were very disappointed that we missed a whole day on arrival due to not checking in until 4pm and also the early check out."

As the property was tiny and after cleaning the place we found it hard to believe that it would take six hours to prepare it ready for the next guests. So yes very dissatisfied and on this basis would not recommend.

  • "Car parking is a problem at Molly's cottage, could there be some way of leaving a couple of traffic cones in the house, then you can try to reserve the car space outside the cottage."

Everything else was very good, Nice quiet place the stay, and enjoy St Just, and the area.

  • "Overall, cottage was pleasant and St Just was a nice little town with 4 pubs."

We particularly liked the Commercial which has a great beer garden. The listing stated it was “coastal” which is not entirely accurate, you can see the sea from the small bedroom but it’s 20 mins or so walk to a rocky beach. Parking a little difficult as very much first come first served and not many alternatives apart from the free car park 10 minutes walk away, fortunately got parked ok to unload and load. Some nice beaches in the area, recommend Carbis bay and Sennan Cove.

  • "Shower hose needs to be detachable property smelt damp had to turn heaters on as clothes damp , the double bed needs replacing as the repair carried out we thought on several occasions the bed was going to collapse, finally some of the residents need to respect the parking arrangements I know its first come first served and that there is free parking in town ,but would they at lease leave room to off load load your car would be appreciated."

Finally we did enjoy our stay many thanks. Mark and Lynn.

Thank you for your feedback and bringing this to our attention. The full shower unit which was fitted has since replaced the detachable hose, which will be removed shortly. The bed has been recently checked and is found to be in very good condition. Unfortunately as you mentioned parking is on a first come, first serve basis and subject to availability. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Molly's Cottage and look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

I did have good phone reception throughout the property with Vodafone. The cottage was lovely, warm and dry after walking through sheets of rain around the scenic country side! We enjoyed our stay for this past week in your lovely cottage. Thank you.

  • "Very clean and well equipped."

Conveniently situated as only short walk into town centre with amenities and to bus services. Mile walk to beech very picturesque and ideal location for series of short walks under 5 miles. Wi-Fi would enhance the cottage especially as phone coverage with some networks is variable at best and several attractions prefer online booking. Parking could be tricky but not an issue as near by car park was free.

  • "We had great difficulty getting key out of key safe."

Plus the key to front door and the lock needs attention as sometimes works and other times very difficult to get access. Also the shower was either too hot or too cold. No wifi is a big disadvantage but luckily I have family in St. Just so was able to get access to the internet. Trouble with re-cycling as could not find the correct bin next to the car park. Please can you provide bags for recycling. However we did have a good time and despite the items mentioned the cottage suited us very well.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we have taken your comments on board and will look into these issues. As you are aware, the property is not currently advertised with WiFi, but we do plan to install it at the end of this year. We're pleased to hear that you had a good time at Mollys Cottage. • "Molly's Cottage is a small terraced old miners cottage within easy walking distance of the central square in St Just."

The cottage was sparklingly clean and warm and cosy. The lounge/diner is small but cosy. The TV is ridiculously small. The kitchen is compact but very well equipped - and the fridge is a fridge with an icebox (not a fridge freezer). The washing machine works well and there's both a line outside and an airer for when it rains. The yard at the back catches afternoon sun and has a picnic table. Both bedrooms are a good size with excellent storage space. The electric shower is good and the slightly shorter than normal length bath is deep. There is no wifi at Molly's Cottage, but we had an excellent 4G signal with Vodafone. We had a minor problem with the shower leaking, but house keeping resolved it on the same day that we reported it (and the lockbox for the keys meant that we didn't have to stay in for it to be fixed). Details on how to recycle do need to be updated on the house manual and both the kitchen and the bathroom would benefit from extractor fans - it was relatively warm and dry when we stayed, so opening a window wasn't a problem. Finally, the street is narrow and parking is difficult as there are more houses than parking spaces. We managed to park outside on Friday - handy for packing the car on Saturday morning, but you should expect to park your car in St Just's free car park.

a very quiet street and area. Parking can be a bit tight, but the main town car park is a short walk and is free, we found that there was a space out side the cottage which was free most of the time. We loved the place and will book again.

.told out side front door. Lucky if you managed it during day as builders in adjoining cottages. Free cark quite near told 3 minute walk. Anyone with walking problems would find it hard as long slow hill. Would have liked bath or shower after travelling. No hot water until next morning as economy 7 heats overnight. Luke warm water then. Mixer on bath doesn't work. About 4inchs of water when bath run. Called person on cottage info , she arranged a plumber but that took a week. He adjusted some thing on hot water tank then wonderful hot water. Tv not reliable suggest ariel adjustment to pick up BBC. Upstairs bedrooms nice but living room could do with up date dark and gloomy. Having said this I would return in summer months not Sept/Oct.

Thank you for your comments. Parking is on a quiet road; which we do say in our website text. The owner has confirmed that the free car park is a 3-5-minute walk from the property, this may vary depending on a person's mobility. It is only the heating which is on Economy 7, the hot water is heated by the immersion heater and takes around an hour to heat from switching on. We've not received any previous comments regarding the TV reception and the owners have confirmed that they have not had any problems, possibly it might have been weather related and the atmospherics? We're glad that you would stay at Mollys Cottage again and we look forward to seeing you in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and cosy, and the area was just perfect."

Lots of nice coastal walks nearby, however the lack of WiFi and with there being no signal in the property, this was a big disappointment. Mostly all rentals have WiFi these days, not being able to make bookings or get a hold of family would stop me from coming back here. Also the shower was really poor, if there was WiFi and an electric shower I would come back in a second.

However, lighting is very poor downstairs as is far too bright- A lamp or two would sort that out. Also, it's just as well that we brought a spare blanket as there was a shortage of blankets.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Mollys Cottage. We have spoken with the owner who has asked us to cover the points mentioned. There is a hanging lantern that can be used if the ceiling light is too bright. The property has duvets and the Owner will provide some extra blankets too. The hike from the cottage to Cape Cornwall doesn't take very long and the views are amazing. We had everything we needed, and the sea view from the small bedroom was fabulous. The cottage would really benefit from a power shower and a better mattress in the main bedroom, but we have no complaints and have had a brilliant stay.

  • "The cottage itself was really quite nice in appearance and cleanliness."

What really let it down was the fact the most important things involving sleeping and personal hygiene were a complete failure. The double bed was a poor quality basic bed which had been easily broken by previous guests a year ago. It was mended using pieces of wood and screws making it look unprofessional in quality. Also there was the likelihood it could be easily broken again with rough activity. The mattress was made of a poor quality memory foam which made it impossible to either get a good nights sleep or to turn over without the bed squeaking and creaking or myself or my wife disturbing each other as the bed sagged rather badly in the middle under our combined weight of 31 stone. Furthermore, being elderly, I am 72 and my wife will soon be 70, we were unable to bath, shower and fulfil basic levels of cleanliness only with extreme difficulty. On the one occasion I tried to have a bath, my wife took about half an hour to get me out. My legs could not allow me to stand up as my feet could not get a grip on the wet and slippery plastic base of the bath, there were no handles to hold on to support my weight and I kept on slipping down. Neither of us wanted to repeat this terrifying experience! The hand held shower mixer was useless as the hot water which had very little pressure was quickly nullified by the overpowering pressure of the cold water, making it impossible to mix the two as soon as the unit was raised above the level of the bottom of the hot water tank. All the windows apart from the front bedroom we were unable to open, until unlocked by the owner.

The property

This 19th century miners cottage is situated in the small town of St Just, this is England's most westerly town.

It has been beautifully restored to provide a cosy and welcoming base for enjoying all the facilities the town offers and exploring this magical part of the county.

Step up from the front door into the small hall and then into the charming sitting room with its atmospheric beams, comfy sofa and electric fire.

It also has a dining table where you can enjoy meals prepared in the well equipped kitchen.

Head upstairs at the end of the day to two comfortable bedrooms, with glimpses of the sea from the single room.

Outside you have a neat enclosed patio which can be accessed from the kitchen, making it an ideal space to eat alfresco.

If you don't feel like cooking yourself, wander to the friendly pubs and cafes on the doorstep.

The town is interesting, with a range of good galleries and little shops, and all around is spectacular scenery to walk and admire.

Cape Cornwall, Cot Valley and Porth Nanven cove with its strange dinosaur eggs are stunning places to visit, or walk the South West Coast Path to observe prehistoric remains and dramatic mine ruins.

For surfers, Sennen Cove is famous for its waves.

Land's End, Pendeen Lighthouse, Geevor Mine, St Ives and the Minack Theatre should all be on your itinerary too, meaning Molly's Cottage will be a restful and welcome base at the end of action-packed days.

About the location

ST JUST

Penzance 7.2 miles; St Ives 12.9 miles.

St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
