  • "Location with parking and garden excellent."

However damp smell in children’s bedroom was terrible so we could not use it.

  • "Loved the charm, well equipped, very clean, everything as stated, my husband however found the wooden bed too short, the footer being the issue and he would have liked to have had a bbq available."

The owner/local site person were easy to get hold off, professional, friendly and efficient. We would stay at Driftwood again with pleasure.

The garden was a real sun trap. The location was quiet yet convenient for beach, walks and shops. Beautiful bird song too! Highly recommend this property.

  • "Cannot fault the lovely location of driftwood, close to all amenities and of course the beach and local walks."

Would like to point out a few issues with the cottage though, the toilet brush and holder were extremely dirty and i had to personally clean it, the blinds in the property had layers and layers of grime on them, the windows could definately do with a clean, the window in the bathroom does not shut properly so doesnt make it very secure, getting out the bath was an issue as its next to the toilet so you could slip over easily, could do with a bathmat and a non slip mat for the bath!!, the storage heaters have no controlable thermostat on them so unable to turn them off or adjust the temperature, the rear bedroom smells of damp and i can imagine in the colder months would not be nice to sleep in, the hoover needs emptying as it smelt and the filter needed cleaning, i did my best to clean it, we could of definately done with some sharper knives in the kitchen and maybe some upto date utensils and pans, im merely pointing out these issues as it all be easily rectified and would make the stay more pleasurable.

The property was as I expected from the information received, the lounge was more spacious which was a nice surprise. The house is in a great position for someone who like myself enjoys costal walking . Lee was welcoming and helpful during my stay.

  • "We had a great time in Polzeath but mainly because the weather was sunny."

. Not sure the house would feel so laid back if it had rained I am afraid. It was nice and the amenities were OK and it is homely. Not sure it would take a severe winter.. The flooring needs some work as does the garden. The rest was fine but we wouldn't stay there again.. A squeeze for 4 people.

  • "Overall a great location."

Having an iron and ironing board would be of benefit. I hadn’t noticed this wasn’t included and it’s the only time I’ve stayed somewhere where there wasn’t one. The property is a bit tired in places but very comfortable. Carpets in the bedroom looked grubby which was a bit off putting but everything was clean and tidy and I really appreciated the accommodation being ready earlier than stated.

  • "Driftwood was perfect for myself, my daughter and her friend."

It was also lovely that it had a garden with table and chairs and a washing line to dry all your wet beach stuff. The location is stunning (literally 100m from the beach) and it's a huge bonus to have parking for 2 cars which made it easy when my friends (who were also holidaying locally) wanted to come to meet us at the beach! It felt like a proper old fashioned English seaside home. (no need to publish following comments....) The only thing that I feel the need to mention negatively is that the carpet in the middle bedroom is filthy. There are several dirty stains just as you walk into the bedroom and under the foot on the right hand side of the bed nearest the door. They are just stains from age and use but it really stuck out to me as being dirty and needs replacing. It's a shame because the rest of the house was clean and light and airy. The other carpets appeared to be newer and the rug in the lounge was beautifully clean and fresh which made the carpet in the middle bedroom look even worse.

  • "We had a great time in driftwood, the garden was great and we loved relaxing in it."

The house itself was much closer to the beach than I expected, it was also slightly larger than expected. The kitchen was functional but not outstanding. My only gripe was that there were no recycling facilities!!!

  • "What a little gem!"

We just had 5 days staying at Driftwood. 2 adults, 2 teenagers 16 and 17 yrs and a small dog. The personalised welcome/info letter at the cottage was a nice touch. We were able to enter the property earlier than expected which was great. Also checkout was not until 1pm which made leaving not such a rush. There are two double rooms and a third with bunks. WiFi was great and surprisingly my 4g worked and could receive mobile phone calls. Cottage is in a fantastic location moments from beach and shops. There is a small secure sunny garden with table and chairs, out door tap for washing wetsuits and a clothes line. Parking for one large and one small car. Will definitely stay at Driftwood again. I found this cottage on Vrbo but in future I would book direct with Sykes to save the booking fee. Sykes cottages were really helpful and got questions answered speedily. If holidaying with friends they could book the next door cottage which is owned by the same people.

2mins from Beach. 2mins from shops and restaurants. Perfect accommodation for myself and my family. 2 double bedrooms and 1 bedroom with bunk beds. Decent size kitchen. Only negative we will point out and this shouldn't put anyone off this stay is it could do with a bit of an update. Bit of paint and new rugs maybe.

  • "The is the second Sykes we have made and both have been splendid both in terms of the booking arrangements and the delightfulness of he owners of the properties."

The caretaker (Lee) at Driftwood even texted us on the day of departure to tell us about a local road closure and to suggest an alternative route - that was certainly going the extra mile (and no pun intended!). Many thanks to al. CB

  • "We were disappointed to arrive at the property and find many lights were not working as the bulbs had blown."

This was especially annoying in the kitchen as 2 of the 3 spotlights had gone making the cooking and prep difficult. Suprised no one checks this kind of thing on changeover day. There were other things allough not the fault of the owner were a little annoying: a sofa cushion smelt strongly of urine, water dripped through the bathroom ceiling when it rained and the side door lock broke so we couldn’t use that door. The caretaker though was great as he came out and sorted the lights, tried to fix the door but made sure it was closed locked and took the cushions away for cleaning.

  • "Ideal location."

Lovely bright roomy sitting room. However I would recommend bringing basics such as your own bath and hand towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets. There is very little left in the bungalow. Also worth bearing in mind there is no washing machine and nearest laundrette is by the campsite the other side of the beach. Rooms are quite small with very little hanging space. The room with bunks and single bed is very small and smells musty even with windows open all week. The little garden gets the sun all day so nice to eat breakfast outside and for drinks in the evening. Fortunately we had lovely weather all week and the bungalow made a good easily accessible base for beach shops etc. We were 3 single ladies. I think this accommodation is better suited for a couple possibly with children. We still had a lovely week but should I return I would come better prepared. Maybe we have been spoilt in previous properties

  • "Driftwood needs a really good clean , on first look it's fine but when you stay you see that there is dust everywhere the ornaments and such need a good dusting ."

The patio could do with a blast clean . The garden furniture could do with a scrub to get rid of all the spiderwebs . The living room carpet is full of stain marks . The cushions on the sofas were covered in marks and black dog hairs look like they need replacing . We would have had a restful time in polzeath but for the fact that there were a number of major building works happening resulting in a rude awakening from 7 am onwards , exceptionally loud scaffolding clangs and digging machinery, drilling etc . On arrival we had a double bed made up in a room that wasn't quite large enough for a double bed . It was placed against a wall resulting in a difficult scramble for one of the occupants to get out of bed should the need arise during the night . We had to unmake the bed and make up a bed in the other room. This first room would have been fine for children but not for us as we are over 65 years of age . A little thought on the caretakers behalf should have realised we were an adult couple with out children and both needed to extricate the bed from both sides . We have stayed in previous Sykes cottages and have in fact booked a further one for later this year on each occasion there have been complimentary items for the family . Not expensive things but a small bottle of milk and a couple of teabags for arrival. There was absolutely nothing at all we had to go to the shops to get some before we had even unpacked after an 8 hour journey this would have been most welcome . Furthermore when asked to leave the residence clean , there wasn't anything under the sink as far as cleaning products go to do this with apart from a cloth and brush . A bottle of some sort of all over cleaning product would have been useful. Overall not quite up to standard or worth the money . If this had been our first Sykes booking it would have been our last I'm afraid .

The windowsills and blinds were very dusty and need a good clean. The single bed in the back bedroom had a squeak and we had to prop it up with books to stop the noise. The place did feel comfortable though and great location for the beach.
