"We were on motorbikes and it was totally unsuitable due to the insanely steep and slippery roads to access the property."
Would not have booked if this was even suggested in the write up. No curtains in the top room to stop the sun waking you up at first light. The back door key does not work properly you have to fiddle with the lock to get it working. Check in at 5pm is a bit late and then 9am checkout with cleaner arriving at 8.15am a bit much, as it wasn’t a cheap rental. Nothing was open not even the Fisherman's Rest, still being advertised on website as open 24 hrs, in the morning. Nowhere for breakfast , not really a holiday destination, thank goodness for the Co op. The hill back up to the cottage is a killer, not mentioned for anyone with any mobility issues, which we did have. Best bit was the superb view from the cottage of the harbour.

"This is a very special place to stay."
We found it very homely and spacious. Loved the views from all 3 floors. We got to enjoy the attic balcony several times for a cuppa. The views over the harbour are stunning. You could sit for hours watching the fishermen and their boats. Can I recommend a bird feeder out in the garden outside the lounge.

Not really dog friendly as the courtyard although it stated "enclosed" was not. Between us & next door was an open gateway so dogs can go straight into the other gardens. Neighbour was lovely & let us block it with a couple of metal chairs but not ideal. Otherwise a great cottage & very nice holiday.

"Kitchen pots and pans a little grim !"
We did find the better ones then used those
Oven dials all faded so unable to set temperatures but we managed ok
Sky access -best to inform users that the doors beneath the tv need to be left open to use
Could not get the radio to work in the kitchen either
Balcony room double bed has an extremely soft mattress and gave us back ache
The lights weirdly flashed on and off too indicating electrics are unstable maybe ?
Loved being in that room though for the door and balcony view
Lovely quirky cottage though and the parking space invaluable

"Although everything is there, all very tired."
The bunk beds were meant to be adult, but our 17 and 27 year old were very uncomfortable. There were no curtains in this room. The shower needs sorting, the heating goes off at night, and although there were instructions it was complicated to change. There were six seats in the lounge but not room for 6 adults. We cooked at home but to prepare or cut anything you would be better to use the handles of the knives. The parking was not good for a large vehicle and it was £70 for parking down the road which was not ideal for us as we had elderly parents with us and the hills were to much. The house was clean and there was plenty of towels. The view was stunning.

"We had a lovely time in this beautiful 250 year old cottage and we especially loved the views from our balcony every morning."
This was a great base for us to explore Cornwall and we were able to see so much. Highly recommend Tintagel and St Michael’s Mount, and if you don’t mind a bit of uphill walking then head out to St Nectans Falls for nature at its finest.

The position of this cottage with the views are exceptional, the layout of the cottage is fine what let’s this cottage down is maintenance , cobwebs ,dusty edge on tiles in bathroom ,dust on lots of areas around house ,loose washing machine door which would not close ,fraid net curtains ,stained bedroom blinds ,loose and broken tiles on balcony causing dampness to bedroom ceiling below , toilet flush handle not fitted properly hanging down ,toilet role bracket hanging off , both plugs in bathroom not fitted , tired kitchen work top with stained marks ,most door handles not fitted properly ,if these jobs were done during lockdown this would make all the difference after waiting so long to comedown to Cornwall and having to pay extra we did not really get value for the money paid

"The cottage was lovely."
Quaint fisherman's cottage with a modern touch but keeping in line with the fact it's a 250 years old cottage. The views, what can we say, just outstanding. View over the harbour and penzance and St Michaels Mount. The cottage has its own parking space which is brilliant. Parking is not great around there. The roads are very narrow.
We loved every bit of our holiday. Cottage has central heating. Combi boiler so instant hot water. Sky TV. Wifi. And a lovely kitchen.

"The arrival time at the cottage was delayed apparently due to extra covid cleaning."
..I doubt any cleaning was ever done. Rubbish under all the beds, including ibuprofen which my children could have got hold of. I cleaned the banister and the wipes were black. No light in upstairs hall working. Lamps in the house not working, Bleach stains on the towels. Broken and loose glass in the bathroom door. Rusty and dirty handles on kitchen cupboards, rusty microwave, dirty fridge seals, table grimey and sticky. Huge cracks near front door. Peeling paint in bunk bed room. List is endless....I have photos and videos for proof. This property is not a 4 star.
We were so disappointed we left early.

"We felt very comfotable in this charmy old cottage."
Everything was decorated with love (not like a hotel-room - it was a home). There was a fantastic view out of the living-room, out of the bedroom in first floor (you are able to watch the harbour lying in the bed) and from the little balcony in the second floor.
Penzance is next to Newlyn and you are able to walk to the stores there (a Lidl-Market is nearby). We had one week in Kittiwake and traveled for example one day by car to St.Michael Mount, another day to Land's End, one day to nice St. Ives, walked a day 4 miles on the coastel path from Lizard Point to beautiful coves had a longer tour into the Dartmoor (quite nice meeting Dartmoor-Ponys at Hayes Rock) and time ran too fast and we were sad to have to say goodbye.

"The one bathroom in the cottage was not at all adequate."
The shower was just a little drip and needs modernising. The kitchen was big and modern. The bedrooms were all adequate with the 2 main rooms having great views. These however, did have signs of damp. It states that towels are provided but one towel per adult and a tiny towel per child is not enough for a week so I would advise to take your own. Hardly any of the doorknobs in the cottage work and the glass on the bathroom door is see through. Now to the parking....there is as stated, a parking space. If you can get to it through the parked cars on the very thin hill. We had to leave the car out on the hill and take our chances 1 night as it was impossible to get to the cottage. On arrival the cottage smelt of damp and there were many spider webs. If the bathroom was modernised and the place was given a good clean and maintained a bit more it would be better. The potential is there. As it is at the moment it's overpriced in my opinion...

"The description regarding the parking space in the initial advert stated “parking for one car” however once we had paid and then given further details, this parking space turned into “for small vehicles only."
There is a car park some distance away at a further cost of £5.60 per day”
I contacted Sykes with my concerns on two occasions and had no response to either. I ended up contacting the owner direct (and was still vague) as to wether our car would fit. The parking space was a definite attraction for this area as we know it to be limited on the road.
A few niggles included no tin opener, sky remote didn’t work, tiny courtyard as a thoroughfare so outside enjoyment of bbq not possible and lastly visited in the kitchen by mice on the worktop/ droppings (when we were out) I did leave a note itemising these observations when we left.
These are all fairly minor but disappointing in a 4star property.

"Kittiwake is a beautiful spacious cottage, very comfortably furnished, beautifully presented, with every possible convenience, the view from the top bedroom balcony is stunning and the owner was really helpful."
Lots of local information on taxi's, pub's and local eateries are provided by the owner in the house manual. Newlyn has a stunning working harbour and quality shops for all the basics - fabulous fish, a great butcher, and baker as well as a co-op supermarket.
I think the details online when booking should mention the 1 in 3 hills up from the harbour, and that the cottage access is not suitable for anybody with limited mobility and without a small car.
That said we loved the cottage and Newlyn itself.

It was well equipped, warm and the adjacent parking space was a boon given the limited local road parking. The local area is quaint and interesting - great for wandering and exploring.
