  • "The best view across the bay!"

wow! The view from the living room windows! In my humble opinion the best spot in Newlyn. Easy access to the restaurant and bars, with Saint Michael Mount appearing and disappearing in the sea mist. Top of the line kitchenware, every convenience you could want. We were there for a week, in winter, and every moment we were there we would sit at the windows. All the mod cons but the sea view from the luxury living room made this holiday an 11/10 for us.

The cottage has everything you could need plus more, Oliver and Russ have thought of everything and the views from the lounge windows could not be any better. When it’s time to go home we have to prise my dad out of the blue chair or he would stay there forever.

We love having you stay and it means so much that our guests feel the same way about the place as we do. Thanks for staying with us again. All the best, Ollie & Russ Property Owner

  • "Outstanding."

We were sold on the location and vista prospect and that was what we got. Thought all bases were covered really well especially the kitchen (couldn’t find a garlic press). Only recommendation we could point to would be a tumble dryer. Great touch with the DVD collection too. Just felt very comfortable and homely without fuss and for us as a five it worked beautifully. Sometimes folks will look for a building with an eye catching exterior so Westcliff with a slightly more modest look really surprises once inside. Yes a small backyard which was clean and unreasonably criticised in one review but frankly with the riches of places to be outdoors then it’s superfluous other than a washing/wet suit drying place. Thanks for the welcome basket which I would say should be encouraged by Sykes for all its property clients as it does take the edge off the en route visit to a supermarket when already loaded up and probably at the end of a long day’s journey. You’ve set the bar really high there as a prefect seaside retreat, we’ll done!

Hi Paul, thanks for your lovely feedback. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The washing machine is also a dryer but agree - never as effective as a separate dryer. Also, a garlic press will be purchased shortly :-) we hope to welcome you back in the future and thanks again. All the best, Ollie & Russ Property Owner

  • "It is a gorgeous property, well equipped and comfortable."

The view from the sitting room is incredible and one could spend hours looking out of the window. The welcome pack was a thoughtful touch and was much appreciated. Although there is no parking at the property we had no problems unloading and then parking in a nearby car park. There were so many thoughtful details, dog towels, coffee pods, many games, dvds and books, it made our holiday perfect. We really didn't want to leave. You can feel the care and love that has been put into this house. Newlyn and the surrounding areas are gorgeous and there is much to explore. Lots of great local restaurants and cafes. Although we drove it seemed that there was a very regular local bus service to Penzance and Mousehole. I would thoroughly recommend Westcliff.

  • "Another lovely stay at Westcliff."

Welcome hamper delightful, adds a special touch to the holiday. Having necessities kitchen towel, washing up liquid, etc etc a bonus. Lots of places to visit within close proximity. At Ives, Marazion, Mousehole, Minnack Theatre, Portcorno beach to name but a few. The parking had changed since last visit so was a little anxious about this, but no need, it was a short walk from property and plenty of space to park didn’t seem to be an overly used public car park. The money for parking was not in property as described in details, but this was soon transferred into our bank by Ollie and apologies given. One of our favourite properties to stay in. Nicki

The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. The cottage is in a great location overlooking the harbour and close to two pub restaurants which do excellent food. The welcome pack of milk, bread, eggs, wine and scones with jam and clotted cream was greatly appreciated.

  • "This is our second time staying at this property and it was perfect."

The accommodation itself it set in a perfect location. There is a pub/ restaurant less than a 2 min walk from the accommodation with friendly staff and good quality food called the Fisherman's arm. We ate here twice and both times the food was fabulous. We would also recommend the Mackerel sky seafood bar. I love the small things that the property owner has left in the property, such as a range of books in the children's rooms, a mix of dvds and games There was also essentials like butter, milk and eggs and wine! on arrival, which was a lovely gesture. Good communication from the property owner throughout. The accommodation itself it's very clean and well kept.

  • "One of the nicest property we have stayed in for a while, in a good location and the best view one could wish for."

Overlooking the busy but quaint fishing port of Newlyns & the bay and St Michael’s Mount beyond, ‘picture perfect’. We were only here for a short time visiting family but would definitely return to explore the area further and beyond as there seems to be plenty to do & see & with good public transport if nec. The weather wasn’t the best but that didn’t matter as the house is so warm and ‘comfy’. Everywhere was very clean plus with all the facilities one could need. Beds were clean & comfortable too. The owner was very helpful and easy to contact if needed, they obviously love their home as did we, thank you.

  • "The negative aspects."

On arrival, the property was really cold, and I would suggest that the heating be put on prior to an arrival, as it took sometime for the house to heat up. The old leather settees in the living room, are extremely uncomfortable and need to be replaced. The courtyard to the rear is unappealing and you would not want to sit out there, the bright blue painted floor is not attractive. In the listing, it states that there is on site parking, when in fact the only parking is a pay and display car park about 200 meters away. We were notified of this, but only after making the booking. The car park was generally quite full, and I would suspect in busier times be an issue. The road outside can be busy, and if you were using the ground floor bedroom at the front of the property, you would be disturbed by the noise of traffic. The positive points. The kitchen is fully kitted out with every appliance you could think of, so if you intend to eat in, you would have everything you need. There was a welcome pack, with milk, wine, bread and even local saffron cakes, a really nice touch. The beds were comfortable and the whole property was really roomy. The location was quite central and you could easily walk to all the local pubs and restaurants. As a working village, everything was open, unlike many of the tourist villages that seem to open for summer only. This is a year round location. The panoramic view from the first floor living room, looking right over the harbour, with the working fishing fleet, will keep you occupied for hours. There is a bus "The Mousehole" which runs every 20 minutes to take you into Mousehole or Penzance, from where you can easily get a train for St Ives. Transport for Cornwall who run the buses offer a travel anywhere in the county, £5 per day or £20 per week ticket, so you do not need to drive and will not have parking charges and difficulties especially in the Summer. The location gives you a central base to explore with ease this part of Cornwall either by foot, car or public transport.

Hi Kenneth, thanks for the positive points you've made and also your honest feedback on other items. Regarding the temperature we can only apologise and we agree that the property should not have been cold on arrival so we will take steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We haven't had feedback about the sofas before but now we have, we will review these when we are next there. The house has never been advertised as having on-site parking; there is off-street parking in two car parks within a very short walk, although we can understand why the reference to off-street parking on the information could cause confusion and we have requested this be removed from our page. As demonstrated in the photos of the house, it is on a road, albeit a minor one, and the ground floor bedroom is at the front. As is the case with many Newlyn properties, there are ruins of the fishing past in many outdoor spaces - our courtyard features walls which were part of an old Pilchard Works and there is a limit to what we are able to or want to cover up or disguise. This space is generally popular with our guests, friends and family in the warmer months although on a cloudy drizzly day in early March, we agree it probably it wouldn't have the same appeal. We will continue to review the points raised and take action where necessary, and we hope that you had a pleasant time in Newlyn. Property Owner

Hi Liz, thanks for your top scores for Westcliff but sorry to hear your feedback on the courtyard. It was painted last year but the nature of the weather down there does mean it can take a battering in bad/damp weather. • "This accommodation was far more than advertised!"

Olli contacted us before hand to see if we had any questions, needed anything specific etc which was a lovely touch. We were greated with a 'basics' hamper, definitely far more than just basics and a perfect start for getting in so late and after a long travel. We come to the rooms which are all much larger than appeared on the photos. The house was beautiful, clean and very well equipped, coffee machines, and many other kitchen appliances including a nutribullet! The cupboard were fully equipped with everything you need and much more. Even the knives were still really sharp, which is a change from a lot of places we stay in. The children's bedroom had lots of books in and a beautiful chair to sit and read them on, even a torch which gave our boys a lot of excitement. The view out the lounge window is exactly like the photos, I spent so much time looking out the window that I had forgotten there was a TV. Alongside this, there were a range of Dvds, games and books for everyone. The location is perfect for a short talk into the high street in one direcrion- where we ate at The Bridge and The Mackeral Sky Seafood bar- both amazing food and great staff. In the opposite direction was the beach, we found lots of seaglass for those seaglass collectors. We also visited most beaches and found a lovely restaurant or 2 in Carbis Bay. Newlyn even has a little art gallery which gives you free access to the Penzance exhibition too. St. Michael's Mount (which you can see from out the window) was a must visit, we all loved it from my children to my parents. Unfortunately, we didn't get to go on the boat ride due to bad wind on that day. I'm usually good at being critical and finding ways to improve places. However, at Westcliff, I believe they have covered everything and much more!! We have a rule that we will never stay at the same place twice, although for this property, I think I'll make an exception. Thankyou for making our honeymoon amazing! X

The property

A prime waterfront location, this traditional granite cottage has unrivalled views over Newlyn’s magnificent harbour and the stunning coastline at Mount’s Bay.

Newlyn sits in south-west Cornwall, between the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole and the historic port of Penzance.

This charismatic seaside town is an active fishing port providing safe anchorage to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK.

Westcliff offers an exceptional setting with immense letting appeal.

Set in an elevated harbour side position, guests can admire uninterrupted views to the iconic castle topped island of St Michael’s Mount and as far as the Lizard Peninsula on clear days.

Ideal for friends and families, Westcliff’s stone granite exterior belies a modern and spacious interior.

Large picture windows frame far reaching coastal views and flood the large first floor sitting room with light.

Time can be spent watching the changing skies and tides and the comings and goings of the fishing boats as they land their catch.

The spacious ground floor double bedroom also has a superb water vista.

There is a second double bedroom, a bunk bedroom which children will love and a family size bathroom, plus separate WC on the first floor.

A modern, spacious and well equipped kitchen dining room is located on the ground floor and provides access to an enclosed and sheltered courtyard garden with furniture for alfresco meals and idle time.

This smart coastal bolthole is ideally located, within paces of old inns, restaurants and probably the best fish market in the UK.

It is worth rising at dawn to buy the freshest seafood for a delicious supper from the bustling fish market.

You will also find curio shops and art galleries including the famous Newlyn Art Gallery.

Scenic walks can commence from the front door with dog in tow.

Follow the coast path and discover sandy beaches at Marazion, Lamorna Cove and Porthcurno.

Continue farther to the renowned Minack Theatre and, for a more energetic walk, onto Land’s End.

Westcliff is ideal for breaks at any time of year.

About the location

NEWLYN

Penzance 1.2 miles; Marazion 6.6 miles; St Ives 8.9 miles.

Nestled next to Penzance, and although still a quaint town in its own right, Newlyn is actually the third largest fishing port in England, and an important Port of Refuge for all seafaring craft. This Cornish town is clustered around the harbour, with its historic 800 year old quay (the Mayflower actually left for America from this quay, not Plymouth) curling around a few small boats on the western side. Famous for the Newlyn school of Art and Newlyn Copper, the Cornwall Coastal Path passes through the town, as does the level Mousehole to Marazion cycle path. An abundance of wildlife and flora can be enjoyed along both, with basking sharks, dolphins and grey seals often seen. The Cornish coast is renowned for surfing, and Penwith offers some splendid beaches on which to enjoy this sport as well as surf fishing for sea bass.
