Thoroughly enjoyed our stay , however in this day and age Wifi would have been beneficial for our party , we made use of all the amenities on site which was excellent and the Hot Tub was a real hit with us all, Please thank the owners and Kevin our caretaker come locality advisor for a well appreciated stay at Dartmoor lodge

  • "After reading the previous review for Aug 2021 we called Sykes Holidays and were assured that any issues had been resolved."

On arrival the first impressions were slightly disappointing in that the photos had not been updated since first listing and everything was a bit 'tired' but surfaces were clean and floors swept etc. Walls were not dirty but were marked and scuffed in places like the hallway from bags and shoes etc which is understandable. Bedrooms were as per photos. The upstairs bathroom had corner bath but no shower adaptor leaving all 8 of us to shower in the small downstairs shower room, which was challenging. The fridge had no freezer compartment, no drawers, a missing shelf and no door shelf for milk, bottles and cartons which resulted in limited fridge space. Hot water from the tap was scalding hot, with no signs to warn of this, resulting in me burning my hand, so we turned the immersion off and reported this. The hot tub was great but the outside furniture was in need of a good clean. This year all accommodation we looked at was overpriced and I guess when you pay inflated prices you expect more for your money? We did have a good holiday and would use Sykes again but would not return to this property.

Grime on the downstairs shower room floor with hair everywhere. Stained mattresses and dirty walls. Dartmoor 14 is a grossly overpriced stinking dump.

  • "Generally disappointed in various aspects of the lodge ."

It felt a bit neglected and we felt the minimum amount of care was taken to make it acceptable. 1. Considering we are living with Covid and all holiday accommodation should be deep cleaned and subsequently our arrival time is not until 5pm . The overall cleanliness was of the lodge was not up to standard. 2. We were very disappointed and it was unacceptable that there were no mattress or pillow protectors on some beds and what bed did have a mattress and pillow protector they were stained. 3. The heating system was not in full working order , radiator in hallway not working and the others not efficient. 4.The kitchen was lacking some very basic equipment /utensils. For example No cheese grater, no basic frying pan no casserole dishes to name a few . 5. No light bulbs in bedside lamps ,no spare available . 6 No BBQ available as advertised On a positive note we enjoyed the hot tub and the Honicombe Inn were very welcoming . The swimming pool was enjoyable ,booking only but unfortunately no changing room facilities available to use . We would like a response to our concerns . Thank you

  • "Good points - Honicombe manor restaurant - fantastic value/friendly staff."

Swimming pool - good facilities bearing in mind Covid restrictions. Bad points. We particularly chose this lodge as it had a hot tub - family holiday with daughter/grandkids,first time after lock down. We knew swimming pool was restricted so paid extra for hot tub. We were told on arrival by member of staff that hot tub not working. During the week various people tried to fix it but only on the day we left was it heating up. I was informed there would be compensation, however, I expected at least the difference in price between lodge without hot tub and that with £300-£400 but the owner only prepared to give 10% of holiday £131.00! Also we were asked to arrive 2hrs later than normal,on first day, as lodge needed a deep clean Totally understood this so were upset to find black dog hairs on the floor, crisp packet under sofa and dog poo on the decking. This was meant to be a special family holiday spoilt by this accommodation and after care. Sad as have been pleased with Sykes cottages in the past. Advice - go to Honicombe Manor Park but avoid this particular lodge

  • "As soon as we arrived the house was filthy."

Everything needed washing in the kitchen and the oven was disgusting! The fridge was filthy and didn’t work, or have a freezer. Under the sofa had never EVER seen a vac and the hot tub was a joke!! It was dirty on our first day and it only worked for that day. On Sunday the pump went and we were told that it would get fixed but it never did. Also it was us who had to chase the engineers each day as they never told us anything. Also while we were there the fridge broke and they did manage to bring us another but just dumped it in a corner and never took the broken one away. The complex it was on had good facilities and it was in a good place for days out but that it. I definitely will not be returning and I would not rate it as a four star and I would suggest that a member of staff from Sykes revisits the property so that they can give it to the correct star rating of two!

  • "The accommodation was filthy."

Lost a pen under the settee. When reaching for it , bought out a handfull of fluff and dirt. The hot tub was still cold, dirty and smelt. There is no freezer, not even a freezer compartment in the fridge!! No WFI !!! Only one TV in the whole apartment. It was the smallest you can buy. The apartment was for 8 people, but only 7 chairs. Not suitable for a family of 8. Furniture very basic and did not match. All windows had mould on them. All the outside furniture was still stacked up and covered in cobwebs and dirt. The whole accommodation needs some TLC. Could be really nice, as it was spacious. Feel that it is just a money making venture for the owners, who are not concerned about the comfort of the people using it for a holiday.

  • "The upstairs bathroom tiles are still very loose as in previous feedback that I had read!"

The lodge was comfortable and had all cooking facilities needed but overall cleanliness wasn’t good! There was food under table that hadn’t been cleaned up before our arrival. The whole place would benefit from a really good clean especially under beds & furniture!! That may seem picky but the children played hide & seek & came out from under beds absolutely covered in thick dust and dirt!!

  • "The lodge was freezing, no real heating, hot tub was cold on arrival and full of leaves, the lodge itself was filthy and had not been cleaned for months & the TV in the living room did not work, only for DVD use."

This was reported to Sykes and was not addressed, we left the property on the Tuesday and moved elsewhere. Stay well away from this lodge!!

  • "The Honicombe manor grounds and facilities were great and well equipped."

The lodge itself was spacious and could be amazing with a few updates and improvements. The downstairs double mattress desperately needs replacing and a few of the floor tiles in the upstairs bathroom were very loose which is a hazard to children. Also the downstairs shower tray fills up with Esther very quickly. The lodge is very well laid out though with lots of space and a great outdoor area. The hot tub is fantastic and is maintained daily and very clean. I think of the lodge had a bit of tlc it could be perfect as in a great area of Cornwall

  • "The lodge itself is actually good but there are several issues that the owner needs to address and which Sykes clearly haven't looked into or been informed of previously."

    1. Steps to the front door-top slab is loose-no hand rail-made it difficult for our disabled parent to access without a struggle. 2. Downstairs double mattress needs replacing as the springs can been felt-very uncomfortable. 3. Sleeps up to 8 people but there are only 6 dining room chairs? 4. Shower tray fills up and overflows-plumbing seems to be an issue. 5. Veranda fencing is old and falling apart-the decking is sloping which is evident in the water level in the hot tub. 6. Upstairs bathroom hot tap does not work!! I got it working for one use but clearly again a plumber is needed. 7. Bathroom floor tiling is cracked and tiles are loose. 8. Generally "tired" condition- needs a refresh. 9. No wonder there isn't a book with contact numbers- the visitors book (which I doubt the owner left) has most of the points above listed. 10. Cannot fault the location or the site itself.

The shower wasnt as clean as it could have been although elsewhere was ok. No shower matt for the tiled floor. No freezer compartment. But on the whole was a lovely place to stay.

  • "Ok holiday home."

Needs some up keep carrying out. Dirty walls up staircase. Banister filthy. Kitchen sink and work tops needed a good clean before use. Needed to move sofa...filthy under it. Groups of young men in houses surrounding our home. Defiantly not on holiday left for work each morning and all home early evening. Seemed of eastern European origin. Was not happy to let my 10 year old grandson play on tennis court as they would congregate there late evening.

  • "We were really looking forward to staying at Dartmoor Lodge."

We chose this particular lodge as it had 4 ticks. Good standard we thought!!! However, this was not the case. > not enough cutlery/crockery for 8 people > black mould inside and outside shower > general cleanliness of lodge not good - we had to clean banister as it was filthy, as was stair carpet!!! > mattress in upstairs double room needed replaced - springs sticking out > heating took nearly three days to kick in - first few nights we sat with duvets covering us to keep warm > fridge needed replaced - we had to stand milk outside as nowhere to put in fridge Certainly not vale for money

  • "*The house was extremely cold when we arrived and didn't warm up for 24 hours."

Small bar heaters not ideal with small children - no central heating. Didn't want to leave the electric heaters on when we went out so the place was absolutely freezing when we came back. *Downstairs (only) shower, poor *No shower or bath mat *If all 8 of us went swimming at the same time there is no way that we'd have been able to dry our towels. *Not enough towels (1 each given) to cover swimming - perhaps a note on the premises description that you need to bring your own towels for swimming. *A small pack of tea and coffee would have been nice so after a 4 hour drive we could have a break before having to have to turn around and go shopping. A small selection of essentials salt, pepper etc would have been good. *Not enough cutlery / crockery for 8 of us, (had to share knives on a couple of occasions ). *Sleeps 8 but only enough seats in the lounge for 5 people so 3 had to sit at the dining table in the evenings. Beds upstairs not the most comfortable.
