  • "The photos completely misrepresented the lodge."

On arrival the hot water wasn't working. When I called the number from my bookung email I spoke to a very well meaning gentleman from the cleaning company. He was helpful and very apologetic but did let slip that the owner said they would contact us to let us know about the lack of hot water. I'm still waiting for this information from the owner. A plumber was apparently booked to come the next morning. No one arrived. The helpful gentleman from the cleaning company allowed us to move to the lodge next door which is owned by the same people. We saw the plumber arrive late in the afternoon so thank goodness we moved beforehand. The general disrepair of the whole lodge was very different to the photos. I would not recommend these lodges to anyone. Sykes Cottages who we booked through were helpful throughout and the gentleman from the cleaning company was too. However the owners severely let down the whole holiday.

Thank you for your feedback. I sorry I was unable to make contact directly with the guests as numbers are protected for data protection and Sykes office was closed by the time I knew about the hot water issue that evening. At the time we did not know if it was an intermittent fault on our newly fitted booster button for the immersion tank. However as Tom the housekeeper for the property and I had spoken that evening and he had already booked our plumber I felt that as there was still hot water for showering and a dishwasher for washing up and my housekeeper Tom had already spoken to our guests that matters would resolve the next morning. Unfortunately and unbeknown to both of us the plumber did not turn up. We then found another plumber that same day and he came the next morning. I am so sorry you were disappointed due to the lack of hot water to the bath and hot taps but we did all we could with juggling very busy and often unreliable tradesman ie plumbers in this case. We moved you to our property next door the next morning. With regards to the pictures, these images were only taken in April by Sykes and some by myself and do represent exactly how the lodge is. Again I am so sorry that lack of some hot water affected your holiday experience as much as it did. My number is in the house and in any emergency or dissatisfaction you are at liberty to contact me at any time and I always do my very best to help albeit remotely. From The Owner. Property Owner

  • "Had to empty dishwasher on arrival, and unhappy with the expectation that we should clean the house before departure"

Thank you for your feedback. This is very useful as we do all we can to make sure your property is ready to welcome our guests for a relaxing holiday. I have looked into this and I'm sorry the dishwasher was not emptied but due to Covid the cleaning team were asked to wash all drinking and eating items in the dishwasher. Thus the added task and busy turnaround period for cleaning staff due to seasonal full capacity and greater absence of staff due to sickness, we regret occasionally there is no time to empty the dishwasher. I think we should have left a notice about this and apologies for that oversight. I really don't understand why or who asked you to clean the house before departure. This is absolutely not the case. We pay for a full turnaround service and that is whether we have 1 guest or 8 guests staying. The only thing I can think of is that a polite notice was put up to ask guests to remove their own dirty linen if possible to help keep the clean team staff safe during the Covid periods. • "Reception feedback Reception on site - not pleasant and not willing to help."

I have been challenged for face covering despite being exempt and wearing bracelet but the receptionist who did not wear the face mask herself. On the question why am I being challenged she said "my boss told me to do so". When Ive asked either she understand the law and either she is not allowed to ask me this question - she didnt bother. When Ive asked why she is not wearing one, she said "my boss told me not to wear one as Im behind the window" - what a joke. Phones were down with no information to customers at all. It was the hottest week in the UK but we were unable to use outside swimming pool because some filter got broken. absolute joke to dont have a critical spares on side in case of any issues. The reception seemed not bothered at all and only displayed the notice that swimming pool is out of order without any indication how long this will take. Nobody on arrival. Unable to find property we booked. Went to pub to ask the question and yet rude woman asked me to leave because she is not reception and she could help if I tell her where do I stay (haha) which I didnt know from Sykes booking. Left and avoided the place. Property - owner feedfback Property itself great fit for our family. Very well equipped home. The frying pans were out of use but after communicating with the owner, I had replacement within hour (yes! within an hour). Owner very amazingly supportive, directed me to the property as Sykes booking website has failed to provide clear details how to find the property. Paul - the maintenance guy very friendly, came and resolved heating issue for me. He meant to come every day to clean the hot tub but he has not arrived in last 2 days - pity. Location amazing, quiet, green in the middle of nowhere really but with 25min drive to the beach. Local towns lovely (Looe charming). It was amazing stay! Id recommend 100%.And owner first class as I said - very supportive! Dont bother with reception and pub - you dont need them to have a lovely holiday !!

Thank you for taking the time to complete the feed back. We were sorry to hear that reception on site were not willing to help. We normally get excellent reports regarding reception and hope this is a one off incident. We were glad to her our handy man Tom was able to help so quickly in sourcing your a new set of pans. Perfect location for travelling / exploring Devon and Cornwall. Pub on site was great for us for a cheeky drink and food is lovely! We needed some help with the hottub and Kevin was over in no time at all and couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay wasn’t affected. Would definitely return and recommend

  • "The house was one of the most well-stocked houses I have stayed in and overall we had a fantastic stay."

Wine and milk were left for our arrival and the hot tub was ready. There was a slight issue with the smell of damp in the downstairs bedrooms but nothing could be seen. It would also have been useful if the instructions re the shower cutting off the heating could have been more prominent. Despite these small issues, we had a really great time and i would certainly think of booking through Sykes again. When booking the house staff were very helpful in answering questions and i couldn't fault the customer service before and after booking. The email reminders and easy access to my account were great.

  • "Info booklet could be updated."

My Dad was taken ill one evening and I spent 10 minutes going around in circles trying to get through to an out of ours GP. The last number in the book that I called told me to phone 111 which was what I should have done in the first instance. The bar at the Manor was lovely and we were made very welcome on all occasions.

  • "I have complained twice now with no real recourse or solution."

I complained about the cleanliness of the lodge we stayed in on both occasions and also the poor maintenance of the lodge. In all fairness the app and website of Sykes was very easy to use but that is just about all I can say that is positive. The park was advertised as having entertainment but there was only 2 activities on the whole week we stayed. We complained to the housekeeper and maintenance who appeared to be the same person about cleanliness and a broken tap, neither were very well resolved. Overall it just put a dampener on what would have been a lovely week. It is a shame but this privately owned lodge has probably put us off using Sykes again..
