  • "Just returned from a lovely week at Manorcombe 19."

We we’re very lucky with the weather as well! Accommodation was very well equipped and clean. It is located right next to the pools, bar and gym so this was ideal for our teenagers to go off and entertain themselves when we were relaxing on the site! We had stunning food in a pub nearby ‘The Rifle Volunteer’ (need to book as very popular) and found a short cut lane (ran parallel to beer garden) back to the site which saved walking along the main road. We found a good Chinese take away aswell nearby called the Red Panda and there is a large Tesco 5 mins drive away. I had also arranged a Tesco delivery on our arrival which was worth doing for our constantly hungry teens! Had some good day trips (with teenagers in mind) to Looe, zip line and aqua park at Adrenaline Quarry, paddle boarding at Siblyback lake, Seaton beach. All quite busy due to time of year and had to pre book activities. All in all a very good week. Would highly recommend but be advised you will need to be willing to drive to go to most places.

  • "The bungalow and holiday park itself - great, bungalow well equipped and complimentary shortbread, tea & coffee lovely."

The park is very pretty and well spaced out. The things that let down the stay were the parking, not adequate for disabled people, the bays not clearly marked hence people not parking sensibly to leave enough room for everyone. A disabled space would be beneficial. The bungalow was reasonably clean, the bedding and towels immaculate however the large windows at the front were dirty and covered in children’s handprints and smudges and there was also hair behind the taps in the bathroom sink, considering the COVID times this was very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. The owner has confirmed that she has spoken with her housekeepers regarding the cleanliness issues. The property is fogged during each changeover. The owner also carries out periodic unannounced spot checks at the property and has always found the property to be clean and to a good standard. If you had contacted us during your stay regarding your concerns, the owner would have been able to look at rectifying any issues for you. Property Owner

  • "We could not fault the property, the kitchen was superbly kitted out with every utensil you could need, and more."

There were books, DVD’s and board games for entertainment. There were only two little drawbacks, one was that you needed two remotes to operate the TV which took a little working out and two was the shower which was difficult to control it was either extremely hot or too cold, that could do with some attention but we made do. The Honicombe Arms on site was disappointing because if you had not booked a table you were not allowed entry, as it was with other local eateries so we found ourselves relying on the local co-op most nights.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear you liked Manorcombe 19. The week in which your holiday took place still had partial Covid-19 restrictions so most of the pubs and restaurants were accepting seated guests only via reservations. Some local pubs do have take-away option which was available without reservation. We hope you will visit Manorcombe 19 again in the future and we hope all restrictions will be lifted. Property Owner

Cottage wasn’t up to the usual standard of previous bookings - cleaning appeared to be very “slapdash” which was disappointing particularly in the current climate.

  • "The information pack, including details of local beach sites, entertainment and doctors etc, was really helpful."

We discovered horse riding after we found the details in the pack so we were set for the holiday. The facilities are clean and a lot is provided, including towels, tea/coffee and tabs for the washing machine and dishwasher so if you forget anything then chances are the 1st arrive it won't be a problem and you don't have to rush out to get anything. Our place had the pass for the on site swimming pool and gym which was really helpful. Most things are within reasonable driving distance and there's plenty to do so we had a great 2wk holiday, as we did last year, and will be booking again in the future.

  • "Communication was great throughout from Sykes and everything we needed was provided in advance."

The cottage was a home from home and had everything needed to make it so. Well equipped kitchen, TV etc and very comfortable. Honicombe Manor site is a quiet and secluded location. Around 40 mins from Looe or Plymouth, just over an hour to Newquay. Some amenities were now open on site in line with current government guidance, although we didn't use them. Maybe a little too secluded if no car, or bad weather as then there's little to do otherwise. The advertised WiFi in our and adjacent properties was flaky at best, being out far more than on. With our 2 teenagers that's like severing a limb. An engineer was on site once, but didn't resolve the issues due to hardware.

Well equipped with all kitchen utensils and also a washing machine, so no washing to go home to....fab bonus. Lovely touches, with board games, DVDs and books. We couldn't have asked for any more. • "We were very pleased with the accommodation itself, however we are very concerned about the state of the indoor swimming pool - which at the time (Tuesday) my wife and children described as "very dirty" and said they would not use it again."

Subsequently my wife has developed viral conjunctivitis in her right eye and an allergic rash on her body which has caused considerable discomfort. My wife did not go in any other pools or the sea during the week and the consensus of our GP and the consultant at the eye infirmary is that the virus was most likely acquired while swimming in the indoor pool. Antibiotics, antihistamines and eye drops have been prescribed and the consultant estimated it could take 2 - 3 months for the virus to "run its course".

Response from the owner We are glad that you were very pleased with our accommodation, thank you for saying so. We are sorry to see that you had a bad experience with other elements of your holiday and that your wife has been unwell. Our bungalow is privately owned, and we pay a fee for our guests to be able to make use of the leisure facilities as they are not under our ownership or management. I have passed your comments on to the park leisure facilities management team for them to investigate and respond independently. We wish your wife a speedy recovery. Response from the Site Leisure Management Team: We are very pleased that you were so happy in Manorcombe 19. The Leisure complex at Honicombe Manor has an automatic dosing system fitted which ensures that the chemical levels in the pool are set to a safe level at all times. These levels are monitored throughout the day and physical checks are carried out daily and recorded in accordance with HSE regulations. These checks are stepped up with higher traffic use of the pools. In addition to this the pool has monthly checks carried out by Kingfisher Environmental services Ltd to ensure that safety levels are accurate. It has been an extremely busy summer season and this is the only report received of such a thing. We pride ourselves in the cleanliness of the Leisure Centre and the changing rooms which are checked regularly by pool attendants and lifeguards. Property Owner

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
