  • "The cottage is lovely, it’s quiet, well situated to its surroundings and has everything you need."

In fact we will be back next year and have already re booked. Our only gripe if you can call it that is that the bed in the master room seemed a very small double in fact I would say it’s a 3/4 bed. There is plenty of room for a normal double and would make your nights sleep better.

Kirsten, thanks for your message and we are glad you liked the property. I can confirm that the bed is a double and is validated by Sykes Holidays as part of their inspection. I hope this helps. Property Owner

It's a superb location in the heart of Padstow, a short walk from the harbour. It's an ancient cottage with plenty of character that's been beautifully and taste fully restored. It has everything we needed.

Nicholas, we appreciate your feedback on Lantern Cottage. It sounds like you enjoyed your holiday, we hope to see you again. Best Wishes Stephen and Carole Property Owner

  • "The property heating is controlled remotely."

We were unable to turn the heat up - it never rose above 20 degrees and was often 17 degrees. This may be ok in the summer but not in the winter. The cottage felt drafty and we had to sit with thick jumpers on. The hot water was not working when we got there but was quickly fixed after a phone call. There was no hoover in the cottage as per the inventory. Great location - could do with somewhere to store bikes.

Stuart I am sorry that you had issues, the Hoover is under the stairs, I am sorry you could not find it. The Heating is remotely controlled for the property, our maintenance company were not contacted and could have amended the temperature for you. The property being in old town Padstow does not have parking, however outside is very safe for cycle storage and we store our cycles outside with now problems. Property Owner

  • "What a stunning cottage."

One of the very best that we have used over the year's. It's warm, clean, lots of storage with fittings of the highest standard. A five minute walk to a eight pound a week, winter rates car park though you can drive up to the cottage to drop items or people off. A convenience store, top class restaurants and the harbour less than an impressive few minutes walk away. Keyless access was a huge bonus and Padstow is a far classier and characterful town than St Ives, albeit with not the same access to immediate beaches. There are plenty of very good ones a short drive away. A large Tesco is situated in town but the star of the show was without doubt, the cottage and its superb position in the beautiful Padstow. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Many thanks for your feedback on the cottage and Padstow in the Winter, we believe it is a great place for a short break or longer holiday. We hope you will visit again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lantern Cottage is beautiful and everything has been done to a high standard of finish which must be appreciated and acknowledged."

The sofa was too soft for me but that was a personal thing due to my back problems. The only thing that let the cottage down was the poor standard of cleaning. The cleaners only arrived just before us a 3pm on the day of arrival and it was not cleaned to a high standard. This is down to the cleaning company and not the owners. We spoke to the owner about this so we are not complaining. There were several cobwebs (not recent ones that any of us could get in our own homes) but old ones that have been there for some while and there was a lot of dust and hair from previous guests in the bathrooms and on the stairs. There is also some evidence of damp (e.g. main bedroom ceiling) which was not a problem for us but the owners may want to keep an eye on. It could put some guests off staying if they have respiratory problems. Apart from the cleaning issue we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas stay for which we are very grateful. We would certainly stay again and recommend it to other people. Carole and Steve (the owners) should be applauded for the work they have put into providing such a perfect little holiday cottage.

We have taken up the concerns with the cleaners and thank you for raising concerns. The cottage has been decorated and one patch of surface damp was noticed and has been rectified. This we believe was caused by moist air from the shower not being vented over the Christmas period and the cold spell in early January. We have provided guidance in the updated welcome pack for future guests. We do hope that you will return to the Cottage in the future and again appreciate the feedback which we have rectified. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and has everything you need for a short stay. We were a party of 3 adults so space was a little tight, this property is better suited for 2 and perhaps one child. Unfortunately we were given the wrong code for the cottage so after several frustrating attempts to enter we had to ring the owner; not ideal after a 7 hour drive! Would suggest more seating needed in the shared courtyard.

Hello Guest, thanks for your comments. We are glad you got in once we reconfirmed the code over the phone. Property Owner

Dear Guest I am sorry that you found Lantern Cottage a little small, it is however a very old and historic cottage modernised for comfort. The cottage is described as compact and the beds are listed correctly. The cottage does have space in the first and second bedrooms we are disappointed it never meet your expectation other guests have given very positive responses. Property Owner

The cottage is central to the shops, bars and restaurants that Padstow is renowned for yet due to the courtyard location the peace and tranquility it offers was just a perfect mix. The cottage itself was of an incredibly high standard with everything you could ever want or need being present. The little touches such as tea, coffee and biscuits being an added bonus waiting for us on arrival. Loved the keyless system of entry and the beautiful property. Would suit a couple, a small family or as with our trip friends on a foodie weekend. The recommendations regarding parking and places to visit were perfect. I honestly cannot find a single fault to our stay there and know this will not be our only visit.

2 minute walk to the harbour, shops and restaurants. Excellent showers and very comfy beds. We parked at the harbour for the week as the steps to the links would’ve been problematic. £50 for the week which I thought good value- might be a bit more difficult in the summer months though as it’s always busy. Steins cafe just around the corner for a lovely relaxed supper. My only query would be if it were necessary to have the heating on so much- it was very warm and we were out of the cottage every day. We had to leave the front door open on arriving back to cool it down!

Many thanks for the feedback and we are glad you liked the property and Padstow. We have adjusted the heating to lower the temperatures in line with the recomendations. Property Owner

The most peaceful place we have stayed in Padstow. We will definitely stay again and I have already recommended to 2 different friends. The shower was powerful and hot. The bed so comfy it was only the fact that Padstow was on the doorstep that we got out of the bed! And the sofa was comfy too. The cottage had everything we needed for the week. And I cooked on 2 occasions and I am fussy about a kitchen. I must admit I had hob and oven envy! We will definitely be back to make more amazing memories. Thank you x Jackie & Sam White. Essex

  • "Loved the cottage."

Clearly a huge investment has been made. The standard of finish and overall comfort of the cottage is superb. Would say that locating the property in Duke St was not easy. No number 38 on the property) which made it difficult when there was traffic coming down Duke Street behind us. People didn't appreciate us stopping. Also, the central heating was very hot when we arrived but had to spend the first 20 minutes on the phone to the agency to ask how we could alter it. The system is remotely controlled so assumed it was turned off, but when it got a little chilly the next day, we didn't have the means to turn it back on, other than with another phone call. Can a ceiling of temperature be put on it and then the occupier be allowed to manually alter it up and down from there perhaps? Padstow is a wonderful place to visit and relax and Lantern Cottage is one of the best properties you'll find there. Caffe Rojano and the Cherry Tree Cafe were one of our favourites. If those couple of points about the cottage could be addressed, I'm sure it would make life a bit easier for future visitors. Thank you :-)

Thank you for the comments made on the Cottage we are glad you liked the property, we were careful in keeping the cottage character during the renovations. We have checked with our maintenance organisation that a number is on the door it may have been removed and not replaced during decorating works but the number is on the entrance panel now. We had increased the temperature recently in the cold snap and have made the heating more variable as per your request. Very best Wishes. Property Owner

Good access for a few stretches of the South West Coast path, with buses en route. We felt very safe as access is through a bigger building. Thank you for the lovely biscuits and tea/coffee. As it was November we probably spent more time in the cottage than we would in warmer months, even though the weather was mild, the temperature rarely reached the pre-set 21 degrees. Perhaps it needs to be on for longer in the colder months to be effective. Everything else was perfect!! Thank you.
