3 Customer Reviews

  • "Mil Cottage was a lovely little cottage in secluded location."

Very peaceful and private. The cottage was very well presented and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay of 4 nights. We didn’t have any issues and loved the home baked scones on arrival. We had a fantastic break and used this as our base while we (Family of 4) explored Cornwall and its attractions. It was lovely to briefly meet Simon and Natalie. Top marks from us. Thank you

  • "I booked a 7 night Christmas stay at Mill Cottage in Pelynt from 23-30 December 2023 through Sykes Cottages because I was persuaded to buy the cottage holiday on the basis of incorrect information."

The cottage amenities were not as described in the Cottage Details. The cost of the 7 day holiday over the Christmas period included fuel, electricity and other enticements including a Smart TV but I subsequently discovered that there was a lock on the heating control panel which meant that the owner was in control of the heating and the Smart TV had not been connected to the internet so it was only Smart in name and not function. The heating had been programmed to come on only twice a day morning and evening for 2-3 hours but during the day there was no central heating except for a log burner which cost an extra minimum of £12 a day. The log burner was only a feature and not adequate to heat the cottage throughout. When I asked for more heating and access to the heating control panel I was made to feel as though I was asking for above and beyond what I had actually paid for in the full Christmas rate of £777. The owner became confrontational and made me feel afraid and so uncomfortable that I vacated on Christmas Day with immediate effect and returned home feeling unwell and shocked by the experience. On first entering Mill Cottage on 23rd December 2023 it was grey and unwelcoming and completely lacked any Christmas colour joy and atmosphere. There was not so much as a sprig of holly or a Christmas bauble anywhere. The cottage was dull and miserable. The owners made no effort whatsoever to make my Christmas stay happy and joyful which meant that I had to cancel my family joining me for Christmas celebrations on Boxing Day as had been previously planned. The owners have refused a partial refund of £500 and have shown no care for my feelings or offered any apology for the trauma that they had put me through. Sykes Cottages proved difficult to communicate with prior to full payment and then denied any responsibility for the awful experience I'd had and the fact that my Christmas had been completely spoilt. In all fairness to future guests I could not in all honesty recommend either Sykes Cottages as Agents or Mill Cottage as a Christmas holiday destination. I am in the process of taking further action to address the refund.

Sykes have laised with the owner and the guest directly regarding the guest's stay. Property Owner
