  • "I stayed in Maia house for 4 nights whilst I attended my graduation ceremony."

The house is a really nice nice with all the essentials. The bus stop was a short walk away from the house which made it super easy to get into Falmouth town. Just across the road is PizzaPls the restaurant which came in very handy :-)

  • "Perfect location for us although fun trying to find somewhere to park."

All the essentials there. Good basic flat. Rug in sitting area could be taped down as tending to ruck up. Found plug in kitchen sink a bit odd.

  • "Use Sykes all the time, but this is not to their normal standard."

Horrible musky smell when opening kitchen cupboard. Bath mat would not dry and very damp in the apartment. Rug in living room needs sticking down and extractor was so loud. Also need to replace the missing blind as no privacy without this. However the apartment is in a great location. Word of advise, if you get a parking space, don’t move your car. Use the bus and train, so cheap to get around.

  • "Maia house is dirty with mould on the walls and therefore smells of damp."

Sticky surfaces and overall feeling of uncleanliness with a very unpleasant smell of excessive cleaning products. Outside approach shows complete neglect with broken paving stones and rubbish not suitably contained. After reporting this to Sykes on arrival, we then left the property without staying.

  • "The house was dirty and very very scruffy!"

! If you supply an e mail address I will send you the pictures I took of the condition of the house and my text conversation with the owner, unfortunately the reviews submitted were published too late, as I had already booked and paid. The conditions were truly awful and not a good advert for Sykes. We stayed with you in 2020 and the properties were outstanding, this property was at the other end of the scale and should not be in your portfolio

  • "On arrival key safe failed to work and needed to contact owner who phoned back 30 minutes later and advised to hit the key safe repeatedly which finally opened the safe."

Window blinds in pictures replaced by bed sheets , lots of cob webs present, It smelt very musty and damp. Shower riser held up by cellophane, mould in shower cabinet, also other evidence of damp. Kitchen equipment was bare minimum , property is realistically a studio flat and not one bedroom as advertised.

  • "The property was really dirty, it looked like they didn't clean after last stay at all, only put clean towels on the bed."

Shower was broken, working, but fixed with tape.. Rooms stunk after mould. I wouldnt recommed this property to anyone for that money.

  • "Tips on parking would have been good as parking is very difficult."

Apart from parking everything was good we would go again it's just right for two people.

  • "Th overall feeling of dampness in the property was unpleasant."

This appeared to be brought about by a lack of effective ventilation; there was no window to the bathroom, most of the windows in the lunge area were blocked, the extraction to the bathroom wasn't sufficient to clear the damp and the extractor to the utility area didn't work. The bathroom was not clean; the toilet seat was dirty and bathroom floor was marked with dust, fluff and long hairs. The location of the property was very good indeed being near the harbour and several nice places to drink out and eat. The layout was well designed, apart from the fact the the bathroom lacked effective extraction. There were many 'touches' that made us feel welcome and at home; such as milk in the fridge, plenty of cleaning equipment. The owner was very responsive and keen to help. Key collection was simple. We found Sykes' phone answering service unwelcoming and unhelpful. We were seeking to make a booking during the lock-down period at a time when the restrictions to travel were expected to be lifted. We pulled back from booking because Sykes avoided giving us a clear answer as to what their policy would be if we were unable to travel. Their communication was ambiguous and unspecific which left us feeling we couldn't trust them. We later made a booking once the government confirmed that the restrictions were eased because Sykes offered the best price.

Could have done with iron could have been cleaner and a thoughtful gift of milk tea and coffee would have been nice after long journey but close to amenities and comfortable bed and sofa and nice shower

  • "It was a nice appartment, cozy and well situated."

It could have been cleaner, especially in the kitchen area.

  • "The property was extremely comfortable, great location for touring the area, buses frequent."

Car parking was an issue but there again where isn't it an issue? The couple of minor issues we experienced were instantly put right by the owner and did not impact on our stay. The bed was really comfortable, and the property contained everything you could need for a week's stay. Kitchen facilities were absolutely adequate, can't think what else you could need. The only criticism (and its a minor one) a wall placed mirror in the bathroom would be a good idea, although there is a small one provided it is not at head height, but this did not in any way detract from a wonderful stay.

  • "THe cottage was lovely and well designed but it would have been good to know that the dividing wall between bedroom and sitting area was glass ( in order to maximize light ) I wsa there with my visiting daughter so this lack of privacy was a problem for her ."

Making it clear that this wall was glass may be helpful for others in future. No other major issues although in order to lock the door when we left one pf us had to push in from the inside as it is very swollen and also I couldn t see the numbers on the key safe easily-even with a phone torch so an exterior light above this would help. Lastly -very minor=the sale needs re filling !!

  • "The apartment was very nice - comfortable and very well set out."

We thought the directions were a little off - unless that was just us. The only comment we would make was that the heating only came on once a day, in the morning, and it got a bit chilly later in the afternoon. At this time of year twice a day would have been much better.

  • "We have stayed in several sykes properties before and had a good experience, but this flat was disappointing."

The level of cleanliness was not great - the handles on the kitchen cupboards were sticky, there was mould on the shower head and the drain in the shower needs cleaning out. We stayed for 2 weeks in September and the place was damp, despite running the extractor fan in the clothing storage area, and putting the heating on for short periods. It was worst in the bedroom because it was the only room without a radiator, we could smell it in the air and feel it in the bedding. Mould is starting to grow on one wall close to the exterior door. The flat is not well equipped - there's no iron or hairdryer and the kitchenette has a doll-sized sink and drainer which wouldn't be so bad if the dinner plates weren't the same size as the sink! The worktop is so small that the microwave and huge toaster were stored in the under-sink cupboard, and the kitchen utensils are minimal. The cooker hood didn't seem to be working very well and the window next to the kitchenette didn't open so cooking smells lingered in the kitchen/diner/living area. The bathroom has no fixed mirror, making it difficult to shave - my partner had to hold the mirror with one hand and shave with the other. The best things I can say about it is it had a comfy sofa and bed, a good washer/drier and there were plenty of towels. If we had not had good experiences of sykes before, this holiday would have discouraged us from booking again. Next time I'll make sure I read the reviews before I book! Oh, and that cotton bud is still in the radiator....

  • "Maia House was in a good location Penryn to explore Cornwall - there isn't a lot in Penryn itself so I wouldn't stay in that area again, the cottage was okay TV / WIFI / Few Sky channels which was good the cooking facilities were okay not very clean we had to clean the cooker and some of the dishes before we used them a dirty oven tray was covered with foil ."

....... Floor and skirting which is all wood made the dust more noticeable - dirty used cotton buds were in the radiators !!! whilst we went at the end of August / early September it was quite chilly of an evening we had no heating the whole time we were there during the day this didn't bother us as we were out all day but evenings were quite cold - the owner said he had British Gas out to fix the boiler but to no avail - clothes felt damp all of the time we were there also there was nowhere to dry your washing there is a washing machine which is great but no facility to dry anything we had to go out and buy a clothes maiden !!!! Our annual holiday is to rest from working - we ended up working / cleaning etc. before we could relax ........................... We would certainly use Sykes Cottages again but we wouldn't stay in this particular cottage again Parking is not easy as you have to juggle with the residents to get a space.......
