  • "Email to say washer/dryer no longer available, contacted Sykes as with a dog and two young children we relied heavily on this but they just never got back to us."

The property was a great size with a good layout. Beds were clean and comfortable and bread, butter, biscuits and milk were a nice touch however the kitchen was infested with Ants, the rug in the lounge had a strong smell of dog urine and the lounge had a general smell of drains. There was only 1 black bin big for our use. On the plus side the location of the property is absolutely great, we had 3 days without stepping a foot in our car and that included a trip to The Isles of Scilly and St Michael's Mount. We would consider booking again if the issue with bad smells, Ants and washing facilities were rectified.

Thank you for your feedback and for alerting us to the issues with ants and an apparent bad smell. Our housekeeping team are investigating and dealing with the causes of both. We can only apologise that you had such a negative experience this time. To clarify re the washer/dryer: It is available for guests use, you just need to request this from Sykes. This should have been explained to you; clearly it wasn't and again, we can only apologise. We would love to welcome you back to the property, which, as you stated, is well situated for exploring the wealth of attractions in Penzance and the surrounding locality. 21 Alverton Street is scheduled to be extended and remodelled starting December 2023. It will be available to book via Sykes Cottages from late summer/autumn 2024. Please keep an eye on the website for availability, and we hope to see you again Property Owner

  • "We really loved our stay at 21 Alverton Street."

A compact but very comfortable house. It had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Comfy sofas and the house was decorated really nicely throughout. There was a large loaf of fresh bread, butter and milk on our arrival, thank you. It was a bonus having it's own parking space next to the house (There was supposed to be a permit hanging up for a parking space in another street which we couldn't find, although we didn't neeed it). The house is very close to the town, Penlee House and Morrab Gardens. The only downside was the noise from passing buses and motorbikes in the evening. We soon got used to that! We will definitely be booking this house again very soon.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at 21 Alverton Street, and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Thank you for bringing to our attention the missing car parking permit - we no longer rent a space in the town and this fact should have been removed from the website. This will be rectified immediately, and we apologise for any confusion this may have caused. There are, as you know, 2 car parking spaces on the property driveway. The little touches that the owners had left were lovely like the plant, the small Christmas tree in the window ( we were here over new year). The tea, coffee, sugar, milk etc but I thought the nicest thing was a fresh cottage loaf and some cornish butter YUMMY as we didn't get there till 9pm after a 7 hour drive it was lovely to have thick hot buttered toast and tea!! I really cannot fault this cottage and will definitely be back again as it's right in Penzance centre. Thankyou

  • "The cottage is in a good location for exploring Penzance and this side of Cornwall ."

It was generally clean and comfortable and thoughtfully decorated and more than adequate for 2 adults , it would have been two small for 4 . Unfortunately it is badly let down by the extremely dirty settees , they really were badly stained . The blanket throws were also in need of a good wash . The cushion covers also need washing . A shame because it was comfortable. The kitchen was clean and well equipped but there is a really dreadful smell in the kitchen , we could not find the source of this unfortunately but it is quite nauseating and needs addressing. We had to buy air freshners which sadly just made it smell worse

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention. We have liaised with our housekeeping team who will rectify the issues concerning the sofas, throws and cushion covers immediately. We have requested a plumber to investigate the smell in the kitchen with immediate effect. Please accept our apologies. We want all our guests to enjoy their stay, and we do strive to ensure the highest standards possible. Clearly this was not your experience on this occasion, and for that we are sorry. Feedback is extremely important. We would draw guests attention to the welcome folder which contains contact information for the housekeeper and would urge any of our guests to contact the housekeeping team as soon as they encounter any issue. That way they can be rectified as soon as possible. Thank you again for your feedback. Yours sincerely Ian & Helen Beaumont - owners Property Owner

Everything was well maintained other than that & it was a pleasure to stay there. Great position for town, seafront & park.

Which housed the washing machine, tumble dryer ,ironing board and iron was all swimming in water due to leaking roof when we spoke to the house keeper about this we were told the owners knew about this!!.So this room was not used during our stay because we were concerned about the water in the electrical appliances. There was a lot stains on the sofas which we informed the housekeeper about .The oven trays were rusty and not useable. The grill pan was obviously new but did not fit the grill as it was too small .The fridge had two broken shelves. These amenities were included in the rent of the cottage. So we feel the owner should correct these problems for the next tenants so they won’t be disappointed as we were. When l stripped the bed l was shocked to find many stains on the quilt. Other than these issues the cottage was as expected and near to all the amenities ,buses trains etc.

Dear Janet We are very sorry to learn of the problems encountered during your stay at our property. These were brought to our attention by our housekeeper on Saturday 24th September. We can assure you we immediately contacted the Housekeeping company and have requested that all the issues you raise be dealt with with immediate effect. We understand that this is in hand and apologise that you had such a negative experience. With regard to the utility room, we are acutely aware of the damp problem. We absolutely love the cottage. The location is central to everything that Penzance has to offer. 5mins from the local kids park, numerous takeaways and a 10min walk to the promenade, which has a classic seaside arcade along with fish and chip shop. The cottage it's self is furnished to a high standard, beds are really comfortable and all amenities work fine such as shower, washing machine, toilets etc. If you are staying for the first time I do reccomend bringing some earplugs as the Friday, Saturday night can get a bit loud due to the centralised town location. Overall experience though is brilliant, definitely reccomend this to anyone looking for a small family holiday in Penzance.

Our dog even had her own hand made treats. Sadly we had no working shower the whole week we were there, and for 2 days no water. So our holiday was some what marred by not being able to shower for the whole week. Unfortunately due to a lack of customer service given by Both Sykes and the property manager it took 3 weeks of nearly daily phones calls to sort out our issue. Shame we weren’t able to speak directly to the owner to sort out this mater rather than going through an intermediary.

  • "Great little cottage!"

Really enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend. Property is in Penzance which isn’t the most attractive part of Cornwall, but with its proximity to some of the most beautiful areas such as carbis bay and st Ives, it’s ideal. This location is of course reflected in the price of the property compared to those areas. The parking space on the property is a great luxury, and again makes the ease of exploring the areas of Cornwall a real joy - nothing worse than a long enjoyable day out and returning to your cottage and trying to find a space in the narrow roads of this part of the country, great to have outside your door! Cottage was extremely clean, and had great facilities. Detail in morphy Richards coffee machine and kettle, m&s/Waitrose crockery didn’t go unnoticed. Only negative would be bathroom door needs fixing onto hinges properly, unable to close without slamming which isn’t ideal in the middle of the night. Also, shower is ok, but very basic quality and poor power, so based on the standard of the rest of the property, should and could be better. Negatives small and easy fixes. HIGHLY recommend this cottage. Thank you for a great week!

Just down the road round the corner one of our favourite gallerIes where a good lunch can be had. With fish merchants galore ten minutes away self-catering is a culinary indulgence. The best restaurant In the southwest, Shore, 50 metres away. Just two niggles. There were no instructions for the central heating which seemed to come on only briefly in a morning and then kept quiet! And the operation of the flat screen fire, nothing more really than a fancy convector heater, was a total mystery as its instructions were in a form of English that was incomprehensible. Too fiddly for purpose. Being warm is a top priority when staying anywhere and we all feel cold in different ways.
