  • "What a delightful place to stay, with sympathetic conversion of the foundry buildings."

Wonderful location giving easy access to the south of cornwall. The local pub, the Norway Inn, did a great sunday carvery. Geoff was a wonderful host. We read his book - what an amazing life story! Many thanks for a lovely holiday.

Thank you for a super holiday.

Thanks Amanda for your support. Delighted you enjoyed your stay- we just grabbed a spare week ourselves and still love the peace and quiet and surroundings! Property Owner

  • "Excellent stay, came down to visit family members and this was in an ideal location."

Good communication with the owner and neighbours who lived in this complex. A few more crockery items would help with limiting the dishwasher use; otherwise plenty of most things, although we did take our own Nespresso machine

Martyn- so pleased your trip was enjoyable and the location suited you. Always good to visit and keep in touch with friends and family, which is exactly what my wife and I do. We have just come back from a very enjoyable week in the cottage and can't wait to get back. Thanks for your comment abouit crockery , but am slightly puzzled . The cupboard is bulging with enough of everything, such as nine dinner plates, nine mugs, six cups, lots of wine glasses etc. I understand your thoughts about the dishwasher, but it is there and available to use whenever needed. In fact, the double cupboard is at bursting point there is so much crockery in it! The main thing is that you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Absolutely beautiful property."

So clean and immaculate. Area extremely quiet and friendly neighbours. Location 'perfect' to see all Cornwall, as we did. Local pub has great meals and ale. Great decking area out the back, perfect for a glass of wine. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

What a great piece of feedback. Thank you Steve- so pleased that you used the decking for the purpose that we do! Pleased that the Norway Inn was enjoyed. We are due there in a couple of weeks and are still excited to get there! Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at the property and we enjoyed our week's holiday there."

It is a great place and in a good position for exploring the local area, and on a bus route. Perfect for 2 people - I went with my sister. I would have given full marks for cleanliness but the oven was in a bad way - I reported it to the owner and he responded immediately but the professional oven cleaners couldn't come for 3 weeks so I had a go at cleaning it myself.

jANE So pleased that you enjoyed Brass Bolt again! As you say, a perfect base for local exploration! Thanks for your kind comments! Property Owner

  • "We loved our week in Cornwall, the Brass Bolt Shops location for us was great."

We found some lovely pubs and beauty spots within a 10 minute drive. Loads of great places to eat but also the kitchen was so well equipped it wasn’t a chore to eat at home a couple of nights. Loved the property, only draw back for our party was the number of armchairs and location of the main seating area. We brought a chair down from the mezzanine which helped but it would have been nice to have had a sofa in the lounge area.

  • "The cottage was very good."

We were somewhat disappointed by lack of any sitting out area. We thought a development like this should have had a communal garden area with an opportunity to sit and maybe BBQ.TheRe was plenty of area that could have been utilised

  • "On the downside small area for 4 people in lounge."

Heating problem the next day we arrived, but was satisfactorily dealt with, albeit engineer had to be called in the next week to sort out properly. Good that two bathrooms were available. The area dating from 1791 was fascinating, consisting of buildings of an old foundry that had been developed with updated accommodation. Fairly close to Truro and enjoyed taking the local train to Falmouth and looking at the Maritime museum. Unfortunately bad weather during the week was disappointing.

  • "The property was well-appointed and in an excellent location."

Very suitable for 2 people (we are sisters) but for 4 would be 'crowded'. Small issues... 1.We had to hunt for dish washer tablets (who takes them on holiday and I don't have a dish washer?) Also no kitchen paper towel. (we bought some) 2.The boiler fired all night and the heating system is highly complex - we reported to daughter of owner (locally) Everything else was perfect.

It's in a great location for a brilliant holiday, nestled between Falmouth and Truro. There are lovely places to walk and fabulous places to eat at. We will be back.

  • "Easy enough to find."

Car parking for one car. Nicely decorated and comfortable accommodation. Has everything you would be likely to need in terms of white goods, bathroom facilities etc, Ideal location for walkers. Although two double bedrooms and would seem ideal for four adults there were only two comfortable chairs for relaxing and watching TV. There was however a mezzanine floor with comfortable seating but this was too far away if you all wanted to watch the TV.

  • "Had a great week at 1 The Brass Bolt Shop, I felt 'at home' right away."

The decor, fittings, heating systems and furnishings are all modern, and the kitchen is equipped with everything you might reasonably need. The cottage is set well back from the road and the whole development is friendly and peaceful. It's ideal for exploring Cornwall - wonderful day trips in all directions and (especially) easy to pop into Falmouth.

The property

In a wooded valley in Perranarworthal, The Brass Bolt Shop is a Grade II listed cottage on two levels in a smart private residential development of cottages and apartments converted from historic Perran Foundry and set within 5 acres of grounds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the banks of the River Kennall.

The foundry dates from 1791 and was a hub of industry until 1879; it is now a fascinating World Heritage Site.

Particularly good for couples or a small family.

Inside, the cottage has been artfully renovated to sensitively merge contemporary comforts with the original spirit of the building.

The open-plan split-level living-dining room has slate floors and oak beams and a vaulted ceiling; step up to the stylish fitted kitchen and through to the ground floor double bedroom and the shower-room.

Head up stairs to a charming mezzanine area with sofa, chair and door to small decked area, and to the second double bedroom with TV and en suite bathroom with bath and power shower over the bath.

To one side, some decking with garden furniture below a wooded slope – a lovely place for bird watching.

An immaculate cottage steeped in history, a wonderful place in which to escape and convenient for visiting Truro and Falmouth.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
