  • "All in all a very nice and well looked after basic cottage/studio which is very well placed for visiting Cornwall."

We would only make 2 negative observations - I think the addition of wifi would be a good decision. Lounge was quite damp in the corner and we were very surprised at the amount of water needing emptying from the dehumidifier daily. Parking was good and access simple.

  • "The cottage is a very nice and cosy place to stay has most things you will need for your stay, unfortunately on arrival when unpacking in the bedroom there was a terrible damp smell on the far side, not sure what’s caused this wether it is a new thing or something old but it is a very unpleasant smell."

Similar experience in the kitchen, has everything you need and we made quite a few meals within the week we was there but again a really unpleasant damp musty smell came at you when opening the cupboards, I did feel I had to wipe them out before putting our food in them, therefore we felt the need to wash things before we used them to eat. Also did hear the mice in the roof of the bedroom, thankfully this was towards the last few nights so didn’t get to us too much. Lacking a few things like extra loo rolls, basics like salt and pepper etc. Cloths and hand soap, are all things that you would expect to be provided when in some weeks of the year at peak times you would pay a lot more then the off peak. Overall we did have a lovely stay there

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The gutters have recently been cleared to alleviate any issues with damp and extra air fresheners have been provided to help with any residual traces meanwhile. The issue with the unwelcome visitors has been tackled, too! With all self-catering properties a starter amount of basic might be supplied but the expectation is that guests should purchase their own supplies thereafter. Due to Covid-19 it has been advised (by email to all customers) that guests bring along their own cloths, hand soap etc in order to further help reduce the risk of the virus. Despite these few points we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Church View. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely cosy clean little cottage."

Location was perfect, great for two people romantic getaway, it has everything you need. Nice touches with the milk and biscuits when we arrived. But, just like the comments all the way back in 2018, this place lacks TLC. The shower is indeed very useless for any woman washing their hair. If you're here for a full week, it gets tiresome how long it takes to wash half your body. Bath isn't as slippy as people said. The DVD does not work, and haven't worked since 2018!!! They need to take it off as part of their advert as it can be very misleading!!! if it's one of the things you enjoy to do as a couple/family is to watch movies, then this place is not for you! Also no phone signal!!! So good luck entertaining yourself if youre here for a whole week or more!!! The pillows were also very old and thin and not very good for the neck. I'd recommend bringing your own for a good night sleep, but bed itself was comfy enough. Its frustrating because this place would have been 10/10 if it wasn't for the little but important touches that made the massive difference to our stay.

  • "Comfortable but disappointing We stayed at Church View for a few nights as we wanted to extend our stay in Cornwall."

While it was a comfortable base and the cottage had a lot of potential, we found it a disappointing experience. Basic things such as hand wash or soap, had not been left for us, although milk and biscuits had which was a nice touch. We noted the bathroom shower, which to be honest is the most pointless thing ever - it’s worse than showering in the rain as it’s just a drip that comes out. Would recommend using the bath instead. I half debated about even mentioning it because upon closer inspection, people have for two years and it’s still not been addressed, which makes me think the owners aren’t really bothered as long as it’s being rented, which is a shame as it is such a cosy cottage. The bathroom was also quite dirty when we got there - the bath in particular had quite a few hairs which were not ours on the tiles and paint is peeling off the walls too. We also ran out of toilet roll, which isn’t a problem but usually we would expect extra rolls to be included, just in case. A water filter would also be beneficial because the water was cloudy when coming straight from the tap. The bed was comfortable and the lounge was very cosy with the heater on. This cottage has so much potential, we just feel it needs a little TLC to make it a bit more special. Just a note for light sleepers, the road that runs by the cottage is quite loud, more so from around 6am, but it is in a great location to explore the charms of Cornwall.

Thank you taking the time to send your feedback regarding your stay. We are aware of the issues with the shower and this is in hand and will be dealt with before the next booking. The property is self catering and so limited basics are only supplied. We are disappointed that you did not contact us with regards to any other issues as we could have dealt with these swiftly. Once again thank you for your feedback and we do hope you will book with us again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was comfortable and a in a great position for touring."

The little close is extremely peaceful. We heard no noise whatsoever the whole time we were there. It was slightly let down by the shower which so many others have commented about: this works at a trickle from off the bath taps. We noted in the visitors book that many had pointed this out. Additionally, there had been several comments about a shower mat for the bath to avoid slips. There wasn't one. Further comments mentioned the lack of washing up liquid, scouring pads for pots and pans and a very ungenerous allowance of toilet paper. The DVD player had been broken for many months if the visitors book is correct. All very minor points and, apart from the shower itself, fairly easy to remedy. But well worth a visit.

On Monday I rang Sykes about The damp smell and very little cold water in the bathroom and Within 2 hours it was fix . I am so glade it was warm so we could leave the windows open to get rid of the damp smell. I don’t like leaving feedback but when you book a cottage holiday you should be Able to see these problems on the description

Having read previous reviews, I would agree with comments made - the lack of WiFi was a joy and the location very central and easily accessible. There have been many comments previously, about the shower - water pressure is not always easily fixable, but providing a more substantial shower head would be a start. Also, the front door still sticks and there still isn’t a spatula - little things, but worth putting right!

there is no mat supplied for the shower. No washing up pads, these are little things which only cost pence which we forget when we come. We bought some and left them for others. The front door need adjusting, when the sun shines on it, it causes expansion so the door is hard to close. This can be put right with a small spanner to adjust the door, I have the same problem with my front door, only takes a few seconds. The cream tea and a bottle of milk is a very good welcome. The larger TV is a good addition, we don't usually watch TV very much, but with the uncertain weather this year, it was very good. This was our second visit and we will probably go again next year.

We had to complain about the front door sticking, light bulb and extractor fan in bathroom not working, extremely poor shower, and the fire alarm started going off for no reason. Whilst most of these complaints were dealt with it spoiled our holiday. It would have been helpful if the write up explained how remote the cottage was.

coffee tin's were dirty, so this is basic cleanliness we expect , there was also marks on the carpet and the throw on the sofa needed replacing, from the picture's on the sykes website to the actual cottage things are different and in fact some of the furniture is totally different, the picture's are not there. the lovely inviting picture's on the website don't live up to reality, and this cottage is in a u shape with other's and all the other's have people in there late 60's and 70's so not for the young.

About the location

Newquay 9 miles; Truro 9.5 miles.

Perranporth, a beautiful Cornish coastal town, lies in the heart of Poldark Country, the setting for the novels of Winston Graham who lived in Perranporth in the 1930s. Perranporth offers plenty of traditional pubs and shops, plus a classic bucket-and-spade beach that is lifeguarded in summer, overlooked by craggy rocks and a wonderful coastal path. Once known as the source of the finest tin, the community still retains reminders of the rich heritage with abandoned pump houses, mine shafts and workers’ cottages. The local Blue Hills Museum and Perranzabuloe Folk Museum are both well worth a visit to understand the fascinating history of this coastal area. Further afield are the miles of sandy beaches at Crantock and Holywell Bay, and the breathtaking coastal walks around St Agnes, much of it owned by the National Trust. A perfect holiday base in Cornwall, with an abundance of activities to suit everyone.
