  • "The property was lovely, exactly as described."

Although it was compact, we did not feel on top of each other and the space has been utilised really well. The location is very secluded so if you want peace and quiet with uninterrupted views of Plymouth Sound, this is the place to be. There are few minor negatives which did not impact our stay and would not prevent us staying again. This is more for the owners knowledge so the matters can be rectified. The DVD player doesn’t work. The tumble drier doesn’t dry clothes. The property was quite dusty. The extractor fan was caked in dust and cobwebs. Some light fittings and around pictures was dusty as well. There is a light fitting in the bathroom, and a spotlight over the hob that does not work. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful break.

Thank you for your very kind comments, we will most certainly look into and address the concerns you have raised. Property Owner

  • "Great stay, and very nice accommodation."

Just little things like the light bulb in the bathroom didn't work, mold in the bathroom (between the tiles and under the silicone), the water pressure was very bad in the sinks, and the hot water during the shower could be hot. And high dust on the top of the mirror, doors, table lamps, etc. Otherwise, we were satisfied and thank you for the stay and welcome refreshments.

Thank you for your kind comments with regards to your stay and accommodation. Little things will be investigated and addressed where possible. Maintenance works were recently carried out on the balcony, increasing the level of air particles, however we do apologise. • "Great apartment, clean and comfortable with outstanding views."

Possibly my own fault not to ask whether the accommodation would be wheelchair friendly. We could cope with the apartment but access in and out of the building including the list was extremely difficult and therefore did impact on our over all holiday experience. Also the car parking was underground and having a roof box was impossible. So we had to secure another parking slot via the residents office.

Thank you for your positive comments with regards to Cannons Folly. Paul (maintenance) is always on hand should you have any concerns, or require assistance. Open air car parking is available at the rear of The Fort. Property Owner

Narrow approach road to the Fort which requires some caution and the longish walk from the car park to the lift along curved enclosed corridors to access the apartment requires the use of a trolley for bags and shopping

Praise for the interior design (decoration, furnishings, kitchen layout, TV size) and the general feel of the place. Only slightly awkward issue was the lack of a table to sit at for meals, but it was fine using the trays provided. A lovely touch was the cream tea that was waiting for us on arrival. We'll be back

  • "First impression was, where is it ?"

?? the directions left a lot to be desired. Car parking was good but at the furthest point away from the room, that said there were no signs directing us to our accommodation or anyone to ask. The actual room was very interesting, very clean and tidy, with fantastic views. However the room was very cold with a very small storage heater which did not do much to help. We were unable to operate the halogen hobs despite every effort, hence every thing was microwaved, not ideal. Probably a nice summer stay for a young couple, would I return, no sorry.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the issues you experienced while staying at Cannon's Folly and thank you for your feedback. In response : Our representative, Paul, contacts all guests prior to their arrival and offers a detailed directions video, this is sent either via whatsapp or email, to assist with arrival from the access road also showing where to park and access to the building. Apartment heating via an electric radiator, can be easily adjusted to suit and responds in a short time, however, there is also a mobile convector heater if required in the apartment. Electric Hob instructions are in the kitchen drawer as are the oven and slow cooker instruction manuals. However Paul, (rep) is always on hand to assist at short notice, for a visit or telephone assistance. I trust this addresses your concerns and may we offer our best wishes. So many cottages make the mistake of using old worn out and uncomfortable furniture. This was not the case here, all the furnishings were really high quality and extremely comfortable for our stay. If I had to be critical, the fridge isn't really big enough for a self-catering apartment. I'd like to keep this place a secret for selfish reasons as it's so lovely. We hope to be back! Thank you!

Thank you for your very kind comments, we do strive to maintain the fresh yet homely feel of the apartment. • "On arrival at Cannon Folly we were immediately taken back by the beautiful location of this impressive building."

The apartment though a bit smaller than the photographs suggest was certainly of an ample size for two people. It was well maintained, very clean and had a full array of equipment. Without a doubt, the main focus of the apartment is the view. It overlooks the southern end of the Plymouth Sound. For an entire week we enjoyed having our breakfast on the balcony with the beautiful blue sea glistening in the early morning sunshine, whilst sailing boats bobbed up and down in front of the small lighthouse on the plymouth sound breakwater. We also had the pleasure of watching the odd British Warship passing through. The Fort is very well maintained complete with private harbour and a small beach. However sadly only residents have access to the swimming pool. The location is within easy reach of Kingsand Edgecoumb park and also a small passenger ferry that takes you across to Plymouth. There are lots of boat trips that will take you for a little trip around the Sound as well as further a field. It's a perfect location if you like peace and quiet but to be honest if you have small children they would have to be well supervised as the harbour and the jetties are quite exposed. This was probably the best located seaside holidays we have had since we were young and before resorts became spoilt by over crowding. Cannony Folly is definitely on the top of our list for seaside vacations.

  • "Very disappointed to hear we were not able to use the swimming pool and tennis courts again this year."

We have tried for the last two years to get this from Paul but was told tenants are not able to use them. We have stayed at Fort Picklecombe over 10 years with different owners/companies and was always given it. This year we did speak to one of the owners who told us that out of 103 properties 16 were privately owned only.... very disappointing to hear this and wonder what the future will bring here. We paid £1252.00 for a week and would expect to be able to use all the facilities. Cathy and John Presley

Thank you for booking Cannons Folly, although it is always of concern should you have cause to raise a negative comment. The Apartment does not advertise the use of the Swimming Pool and Tennis Court, the Management Company at The Fort are very strict in making all the Apartment Owners aware the use is for Owners only, I am unable to comment on why other apartments have allowed you the usage in the past, but we are very aware of our obligations as Owners. Please accept our apologies if you feel you have been misled. I wish to thank you again for your booking and trust the Apartment was up to your expectations. Cannons Folly provided us with an excellent ‘bolt hole’. The view from the balcony across the harbour in a storm was very powerful. Set in an old fort, the apartment is in an old cannon emplacement. The property feels cosy and is well appointed. We were able to sit out on the balcony and watch the boats/ships come up the Sound. There is access to The Coastal Path and lovely walks over the Kingsand, Cawsand and Mount Edgcumbe Estate - it is steep in places but worth the effort. We made great use of the Ferry at Mount Edgcumbe over to the Barbican, the crew were so friendly. Finally someone had to come from Plymouth with a key. Also the lift was out of order and we had to carry all our stuff up 3 flights of stairs. We are in our 70's and this was a serious problem. In the end we left on the Thursday due to this problem. The apartment itself was fine , but the problems outweighed the benefits and spoiled our holiday. Very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Cannon's Folly. We are sorry to hear you had trouble accessing the property, having spoken with the owner she has confirmed that there was not an issue with the key safe or a missing key and once she had arranged for her maintenance man to visit he was able to show you how the key safe worked and there was no further problem. Unfortunatley the lift was out of order for your visit, the owner was not aware of this and had she been notified at the time she would have been able to have this looked at, it has now been confirmed that the lift has since been fixed. Despite the points raised we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the apartment. Property Owner

  • "When we arrived we could not gain access to the property because there was a fault with the front door."

We telephoned your office and spoke to two people who sounded uninterested and the second one was rather sarcastic. He or she did act on the problem and a locksmith was sent out, but we expected a much better and more empathetic response to what was a stressful situation. It was difficult to get through to speak to a person as well - on all the occasions we rang. We were offered no apology at any stage and felt we were being inconvenient. In fact we sorted the problem out ourselves, as a resident was able to access the caretaker's cupboard of spare keys and let us in (prior to the locksmith being called). After we had gained access, we did try to get through to inform you, but we had hold for a long time and gave up. The locksmith's solution was a stop gap, but held for the week. On another occasion, before we arrived at the property, we rung the office to request a late check out on our final day. A message was left on my phone and, again, the tone of the person who left the message sounded sarcastic. I ignored this at the time, but when it happened again later I remembered it, so I am mentioning it now. I'm not sure 'Helpful' Holidays really lived up to its name this time.

Thank you for taking the time to fill in our feedback request. We are so sorry to hear of the trouble that you had getting access into the property. With amazing views all around along the Devon and Cornwall coasts, it is a fascinating spot to sit and watch the nautical world go by (binoculars provided).

Leave your boots and coats in the hall and head into the beautifully finished open plan living space with sofa bed where you can sit and observe the ever-changing scene of passing ships and the light shining over the waves.

Sliding open the doors to the balcony will bring the outside in.

The double bedroom is separated from the living area, from here you can take the opportunity to lie in bed and gaze at that view.

Bring your water sports and walking gear, which can be left in the outer hall, giving you the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beaches and sailing opportunities around pretty Kingsand and Cawsand, as well as walking the fabulous Mount Edgcumbe estate with its grand house and extensive gardens.

For the vibrant buzz of Plymouth, it's easy to catch a pedestrian ferry or the car ferry to the Ocean City, where you can go to the theatre, shop, eat out and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

With all this within convenient reach, as well as those timeless sea views to linger over, Cannon's Folly really is a stunning destination.

Instead, you can relax in the peace and quiet of village life, and look out over Plymouth Sound which offers calm waters ideal for watersports, fishing and bathing. Take a walk south along the coastal path to Penlee Point for the glorious views of Rame Head, towering above the sea, or, a walk north along the coast will take you to Mount Edgcumbe Park with fabulous views of Plymouth Sound. From Cawsand, take a ferry trip to Plymouth and visit the Aquarium, the historic Barbican or enjoy a spot of retail therapy.
