  • "We had lovely week at Creel Cottage, using it as a base whilst visiting other towns and villages."

As with previous reviews the property would benefit from some minor repairs, mainly stiff or broken window catches and there is a plentiful supply of spiders and their associated cobwebs but nothing to worry about and something that could be picked during the changeover cleaning process. The cottage is quite dark during the day as shutters have been installed which do reduce the daylight. You do need to be careful when going up or down the stairs as being a cottage they are tight and slightly narrower than conventional stairs. This may be a problem for anyone with reduced mobility. The property was obviously fully renovated some time ago and to a very high standard but this is now showing some wear and tear. The bathroom is quite large with a luxury bath and shower. The shower is a good powerful shower with an adjustable fixed head and to avoid wetting the floor best turned on once in the shower, we didn’t notice any leakage around the door as mentioned by others and there is a plentiful supply of hot water. The beds are comfortable and the bed linen and towels provided were very good quality. There is a good selection of games, folding beach chairs and buckets and spades for the kids although we didn’t have need of them. The tv works fine via the free view and internet during our stay was constant. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils but I would take your own cloths and washing up materials, bin liners and dishwasher tablets. The dishwasher contained used cups and cutlery when we arrived, presumably from the previous occupants which would have exhausted the single dishwasher tablet that was provided had we not taken some with us. The kitchen is accessed via three steps from the lounge, TAKE CARE, the bottom step into the kitchen is much narrower and lower than the other 2 and the same colour and material as the kitchen floor I mis-judged the step and took a nasty fall, so make sure you familiarise yourself with them, once you are aware it’s fine but it was not a good way to find out. (Possibly the bottom step would benefit from marker tape on its edge) The access instructions were clear with the key code to the house, as with many places in Cornwall access with the car is via a narrow street with a tight entry at the side of the lifeboat station it is possible to turn around at the top after unloading. Finding The car park space was a challenge and is found at the junction of Fore St and New Road at the LH side of the old RNLI garage (as shown on Google maps street view) this is now the Jack and Lewis shop. It is an uphill walk to the car park space and took around 8 minutes to walk up the hill at a normal walking pace. Locating and accessing the parking space took a good deal of time on arrival to locate and the contact number for the letting agent was Monday to Friday only, however being on O2 there was no signal anywhere in port Isaac so I was unable to ring to see if they have an out of hours answering service. Overall we had a great week once we had managed to get unloaded and finally find the car parking, Thankfully I was uninjured by the fall on the kitchen steps and hopefully this review will help you avoid some of the problems we encountered .

  • "We had a lovely stay but I was very disappointed at the level of cleanliness of the property."

Under the table was very dusty and obviously hadn’t been swept or wiped down. Every window sill was dirty. All round the bottom of the toilet was dusty and dirty. The toilet brush looked horrible with what looked like toilet paper on it. When I go away I don’t want to feel like I’m staying somewhere that’s not clean and unfortunately that’s how I felt here. It was given a quick topical clean before arrival but when you’re paying a lot it needs to be properly cleaned after every stay. Also fyi the tap in the bathroom drips so is wasting water. We also didn’t know where the bin for recycling was or where to put glass bottles so we had to take them with us which isn’t convenient.

Thank you for your comments, our apologies for the lack of cleanliness, this will be bought to the attention of out housekeeping department. We hope this will not deter you from visiting us again very soon. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owners. Property Owner

  • "It's such a shame that the 2nd bedroom isn't 2 single beds and I seriously think this impacts who rents the cottage, we have stayed with you twice now as my children were young enough to share a bed but I don't think they will anymore, I know others who have chosen a different cottage due to this too."

I think the little cottage could do with some tlc, broken window latches, a leaking shower door, and dreadful WiFi. The location, however, is perfect except all the pesky tours, which stop outside the cottage door several times a day.

Thank you for your comments. The issues raised will be addressed by our maintenance team. We hope to welcome you back in the near future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner Property Owner

  • "We loved staying in the heart of Port Isaac in Creel cottage."

The cottage was beautifully decorated and had great facilities including a tumble dryer. The parking needs to be clearer on the website as this is a significant distance and for people who are not considerably fit, it is a significantly steep journey. The cottage was clean but greater attention to detail is needed such as dusting and removing cobwebs. This is a recurring issue that I have seen on other reviews and needs to be dealt with and not ignored, especially as this is a premium price to pay in the UK. All round we had a wonderful stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you had the chance to make the most of the local amenities. We appreciate you bringing the issue of the lack of information on the website about the parking. We will review what the website says. I am sorry you found issues with cleanliness this is not acceptable and we will raise this the ongoing comments with the housekeeping team to ensure that this does not happen in the future. Thank you once again for sharing this feedback and we hope to welcome you back to north Cornwall in the future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on Behalf of the owner Property Owner

  • "Great cottage, in lovely location."

Couple of minor points though. Parking space is at top of village so need to be reasonably fit to get to your car, quite a steep hill. Only one toilet roll for a week and no bin bags, seems a bit mean.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you had the chance to make the most of the local amenities. We appreciate you bringing the issue of the lack of the welcome pack. we have spoken to the cleaning team who will now ensure that such things like what was mentioned will be left in future. • "Creel cottage is a lovely cottage in ideal location."

It has lots of lovely features and renovated to a high standard. Unfortunately the cleaning of the cottage left a lot to be desired. Understandably old buildings can be dusty but it was clear that rugs and furniture had not been moved to vacuum and dust. We vacuumed the entire downstairs only to discover the vacuum cleaner badly needed to be emptied which then filled our bin ( one bin bag provided ). We had to give up as the filters in vaccuum cleaner were so dirty it kept cutting out. Several crockery items in cupboards were unclean and chopping boards put back into their stand with crumbs. Although a welcome pack was not mentioned in sales literature it was disappointing that there was not even any tea or coffee or condiments in the kitchen. No tin foil, kitchen paper and only 1 toilet roll provided. There were also no cleaning products such as washing up liquid or detergent to clean bath, sink etc. Information on recycling was non existent other than to separate our waste. We had a lovely week but more attention to cleanliness and provision of basic kitchen items would have improved our stay

  • "The cottage is beautifully renovated and comfortable and ideally situated in Port Isaac for all its amenities."

However we found the cottage to be quite cold and the heating was very unpredictable. It wasn’t the warmest of weeks in Cornwall and could have done with a bit more heat in the evening. There is a wood burner but not practical for us to use with young children. There doesn’t appear to be any instructions on how to use anything. We also had an issue with the parking space. On arrival, the key for the padlock was bent and we couldn’t get in it. Despite a couple of phone calls to John Bray, no one got back to us and it was never sorted out. However they did allow us to park outside their offices. It didn’t hamper our week and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but issues that should be easy to sort out weren’t. Holidays should be stress free.

Thank you for your feedback, we are very sorry about the issues you face during your stay, we will look into getting instructions put in the property. We are glad you were still able to enjoy your holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owners. Property Owner

  • "Creel Cottage is a lovely place to stay and would be better justified being overseen by a company that specialises in luxury/boutique accomodation."

I was very reluctant to book this as JB/Sykes is not a company I would normally use but it was the best place that I could find in Port Isaac and you clearly have the monopoly there. Sadly where we stayed 3 years ago is no longer a (private) holiday let. Cleaning needs to be more thorough, a lost of dust/cobwebs under the drawers /bedside tables etc. A pencil under a chest of drawers is a good indication that the cleaning was not thorough. There were no pillow protectors on for which we were instructed not to remove them when stripping the beds and no laundry bags, which we were told would be provided. No toilet roll, kitchen roll or bin bag in the kitchen, only 1 dishwasher tablet and no welcome pack - something that we have had in every other cottage we have stayed at, which is a lot. There were 3 light bulbs that had blown. The blinds could do with replacing as the rods are sticking out and bits are broken. I left them much better presented than what they were when we arrived. Pillows could do with replacing. The booking process was simple enough and I e-mails that I sent were responded to promptly.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues but thank you for bringing these to our attention. Your comments have been passed on to the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays and to the owner. On the note of welcome packs. Sadly, these had to be taken away due to COVID-19 but we aim to have these put back in place when the time allows. We hope you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. The kitchen is furnished with lots of modern amenities giving you the option to self-cater for yourself throughout the course of your stay.

Take your pick between the king-size and double bedrooms on the first floor, both tastefully decorated and benefitting from exposed beams and views across the village.

The family bathroom is beautifully fitted out, and includes a walk-in shower and a freestanding bath.

Private parking is available at the top of the village for one car, so you can venture further afield when you fancy, or simply leave the car parked up and explore on foot.

The area around Port Isaac is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the turquoise waters and rugged coastline around the village are truly spectacular.
