  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this comfy house."

No massive complaints, but there are a couple of things which would have made life a bit easier! Maybe you should make guests aware before they book that you don't allow barbecues in the garden - and the slope would not make it suitable anyway. Also that the garden is a very sloping lawn(only climbed up there twice to use clothes line right at the top.) This could certainly influence whether to book or not. Being 5ft 3(1/2!!) I was physically challenged to hang clothes on the line!! Also couldn't see my face in the shower room mirror for the same reason. The shower room window was locked with no sign of any key. This resulted in a very steamy shower room (the extractor fan was very noisy and pretty ineffective). This has probably contributed to the disgusting stained grout in the shower cubicle.?? The best way we found to clear the steam was to keep the back door open (not ideal). As stated in your info the driveway is very steep, though we managed ok Really useful to have a parking space. We were just 2 guests and only used the double bedroom. I don't think I'd like to be part of a party of 7 with the layout of the bedrooms /toilet facilties.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed the time at the cottage. We will ask Helpful holidays to put information in the instructions sent to guests that barbecues are not allowed in the garden. It is stated on the back door inside. Since your comments we have instructed the cleaners to specially clean the grout in the shower room. We haven't had any queries about steam there before. We have looked into it. There are the equivalence of two bathrooms in the cottage and this has always seemed adequate for 7 guests. Property Owner

  • "I looked at a lot of feedback before booking here."

A lot of them were accurate both good and bad. The parking is a challenge unless you have a very good hand break and a smaller car. The labels everywhere are very helpful but many are faded now. The booklet provided is out of date and a lot of repetition and contradictions. No bin bags provided. The cleanliness was not good especially in the lounge where under the seats on the sofa hadn’t been cleaned for a while. I cleaned every piece of china before use, and the dishwasher hadn’t been cleaned for a while. The cottage is dated but comfy and we generally enjoyed our stay. The owner rang as promised but wasn’t really able to help with our queries and we weren’t able to open lower floor shower room window which was unfortunate as the expel air wasn’t great. The bedrooms were nice and the bed in the large bedroom was very comfy - others not so much. We appreciated the biscuits left for us. Cornwall clearly doesn’t do recycling-we had to take ours home. Apparently the charges are making most places remove containers. Port Isaac is lovely and Edgehill is right in the centre of it, so very good spot. Mixed review for a mixed experience. Would book again if some of the above issues were remedied.

Thank you for your comments about your stay at Edgehill. We are pleased that you found the cottage comfy and you enjoyed your stay. You said you would book again if the queries were dealt with. We accept that the drive in front of the house slopes upwards, but most Cornish villages are hilly and we have had very few adverse comments from guests in the past. It is one of only a few cottages in Port Isaac that have useful parking spaces. We will ask our caretaker to check any faded labels, but if the information folder is left in the window area by guests, it may be affected by sunshine pouring in. The folder was updated in November 2022. A few bin bags are normally left by the cleaners and there are full details of the recycling system for the cottage in the folder. The bags are collected once a week. When we telephoned to check if everything was OK you mentioned that you were unable to open the shower room window. We offered to ask the caretaker to find a key but you said not to bother. Thank you for your comments about the sofa and the crockery and we will draw these matters to the attention of the cleaners. Well equipped kitchen and clean comfortable bedrooms and beds. Great location on the edge of the village but easily in reach of the village centre and the local Co-op. The public car park was just around the corner for the second car of our group and easy tp pre-pay for the week. A real find and very helpful, understanding owners who don't live locally but were at the end of the phone when we needed them for a small emergency we had (nothng to do with the property). Highly recommended.

We are glad you really enjoyed your stay at the cottage and that you responded favourably to our phone call to check everything was OK when you arrived. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a fantastic location with everything we needed, stunning views and so peaceful."

The only disappointment was the unannounced contractors in the garden that appeared on the day before we left (one of the few sunny days) meaning we couldn’t use the garden as we’d planned. We contacted the number given by Sykes but they reported to have no knowledge of any contractors and seemed disinterested. However this did not spoil our fabulous week in port Isaac and we would definitely return.

I am sorry I have only just seen your comments. I am pleased the presence of nearby contractors did not spoil your holiday and hopefully next time you come they will be long gone. Property Owner

  • "I would highly recommend to anyone a stay at Edgehill, Port Isaac."

From the moment we arrived to our very last day we had such a relaxing time. The driveway was just perfect for our BMW, no issues with width or gradient. The house was very homely and we felt comfortable from the very first minute. The kitchen was fully supplied with enough plates, dishes, cups etc. to fill a large dishwasher and still have cups to use. The lounge was perfect with stunning views overlooking the houses and towards the sea. There was an abundance of books, games and DVDs should you need them. The downstairs toilet and shower was excellent as was the bath and toilet on the first floor. We were only 4 people, so we had the choice of beds and we all chose the one that suited ourselves. Very comfortable and well decorated I could not fault the decor nor the accommodation at all. I know some reviews have criticised the various signs around the house, dos and don'ts, but I felt they were necessary and made us chuckle. I know if I was renting my own house there would be stickers around the place. It shows that this house is a 'home' to the owners and as such visitors should respect the fact that the little notes that were left were to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I will definitely be returning to Edgehill, it gave us the best holiday we could wish for. The location was just perfect. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home, we will be back. Kind Regards, Allison, Alan, Jon and Joe x

Sadly would not return because of the parking. Drive steep as well as tight. With a car parked opposite, as we had, and another vehicle on the drive we would not have been able to get out. Road up from village steep so we preferred to do a circular route along coast path and then back down the hill to the cottage.

We are pleased you liked the cottage and we are sorry you had parking problems. As you will be aware we are very lucky to have off street parking in Port Isaac which is difficult to come by. We have owned the cottage for over 30 years and in that time we have had very few adverse comments about the parking up till now. Normally there is sufficient clearance between any two cars parked there. Property Owner

!! Also is it really necessary to have so many notes everywhere some you can hardly read. Would be nice to have had a barbecue can’t even use a disposable one!!! I wouldn’t return to this cottage

We are sorry you had trouble parking as we have often had a 4x4 vehicle parked next to our car with no difficulties arising. We have always thought we were lucky to have our own parking space in Port Isaac. As far as notes are concerned, the only other comments we have had regarding them have been favourable. Unfortunately our experience with disposable barbecues has been that guests are not always careful about disposing of them! Property Owner

Not cleaned properly, doors that would not close shut, windows that you could not open, (no keys), shower that did not work properly, bedding that was not clean etc. Check out the extractor fan in shower room ! Owners telephoned to ask if all was ok but did not take kindly to our feedback and comments. Would not recommend this house plenty of others in Port Issac with parking.

I am sorry you were not happy with your visit to our cottage. We always telephone guests on the Sunday of their arrival and respond to any points raised courteously. I explained that we had no problems with the shower previously but we will ask our plumber to check it. We will contact our weekly cleaners and raise your comments about cleaning problems with them. Normally guests are very happy with the cottage. The windows are double glazed sashes and they slide up and down easily. Keys are only necessary for tilting to clean them.. Great location. The size of the driveway wasn't clear in the description. We have a very long car and it was very tight for the neighbour to get on and off the drive when we were parked even when we were right over to the right. I think the property could benefit from a shower over the bath on the first floor. Also, providing hand soap would be a plus. We went and bought some and put it in the 2 bathrooms. Overall though I would use the property again. thank you.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy to hear that you found Edgehill to be a great location. We are sorry to hear you had an issue with parking, as we have found that 2 cars can fit on the drive satisfactorily. We wonder if your long vehicle was driven as far up as possible. There is a very efficient shower in the downstairs bathroom, so no plans to make any changes at the moment. Thank you again for your comments, and we do look forward to welcoming you back again. • "The holiday cottage is within walking distance to a range of the most amazing restaurants of Port Gaverne and Port Isaac."

It is a house rather than a cottage, so has lovely big windows with plenty of light. And the parking space and driving route into it are ideal. It has a great garden to sit out in the sun. The cottage itself has become dated, with wood chip wall paper almost everywhere and carpeted bathrooms and smaller/old and creaky double bed than has become the norm these days. This is balanced by a good shower room, good internet, and dishwasher/oven etc. You won't find a hair dryer. Not a wholly positive review and below our expectation on the facilities, but if you book with that knowledge and restaurants are your thing, you'll have a fantastic time.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Edgehill and that you loved Cornwall. As a Victorian property the owners strive to make the cottage comfortable, bright and very well equipped. Following your comment, they decided to add a hairdryer. The bathroom is carpeted but the modern shower room has tiles on the floor. The double bed in the main bedroom at the moment is standard size but the owners are in the process of replacing it with a king-sized bed later this year. All the appliances are represented in the features of the property and we are happy the internet had a good speed. We hope you will visit again for more fantastic holidays. Property Owner

Unfortunately the twin bedded room had rather uncomfortable beds, especially the one next to the wall! Probably okay for children, but not adults. The upstairs bathroom has an awkward lock. I managed to gouge a chunk out of my finger trying to unlock it. The problem was made worse when the door expanded in the humid weather. All in all the property is wonderfully situated, and very homely to stay in.

  • "We were fortunate to have booked a week at the house in the same week the government allowed holiday travel , 4th July 2020."

The cottage had lots of ppe equipment and was very clean . The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, and we all felt we were not on top of each other. The utility room at the rear of the property was most useful , particularly the tumble dryer. The back garden was a good size but overlooked. Great views of the sea from the front of the house ,especially the top floor front bedroom . Port Isaac itself was a delight with it’s quirky winding roads and brilliant original shops . I could easily walk to the local small co op within 5 minutes or less . If you have mobility problems this may not be the ideal holiday location. The only downside of the cottage is the extremely steep driveway. Upon returning to the house each day it was necessary for myself and three adult sons to get out of the car before the bend in the road . This enabled my husband to access the driveway safely and securely . A minor issue and certainly did not spoil what was an outstanding week away .

  • "Location is important, and this cottage is beautifully placed in the heart of Port Isaac."

Several of the rooms have superb views of the village and cove and even some glimpses of sea. There is efficient central heating (very necessary in October, when we were there) and all the equipment you could ever need, including an excellent collection of games and books for days when you look out of the window and decide not to bother even trying to go out. The owners have put helpful labels with instructions and advice on almost everything from the front door to the cooker. The house is on three floors and the top set of stairs (to two bedrooms) are rather steep, but this is nothing compared to the challenge of parking. On the website, there looks to be a wide, tarmacked drive, and indeed this is true. What is difficult to convey from a photograph is the extreme gradient of just about everything in the village - it is built on a cliff, literally. Fore Street itself is a narrow lane between stone walls (one way, uphill), with a gradient of about 1 in 5. The entrance to the driveway is about a car's width, so a tight turn, and the drive has a gradient of 1 in 3 (I measured it... sad, I know!). So bring a small car, with good brakes, and prepare to practice extreme hill starts. Or plan to spend your holiday in the village - not a bad idea at all! All this said, Port Isaac is exactly as lovely as you imagine (though I might think twice about visiting in high season - I'm sure it gets uncomfortably busy), and this comfortable, well-equipped cottage is in a brilliant location, almost on the Coast Path. We had a great time.
