So cold we were unable to use the facilities. Inadequate heating.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you liked the cottage but are really sorry the bathroom was cold. We messaged you to check the heated towel rail to see if it was switched-on but we didn’t receive a reply and so we don’t know if this solved your query. Normally the towel rail is more than enough to heat the bathroom and so we will check just in case it needs updating. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

However curtains still had black mould on. Toilet roll holder still broke. Shower rack was rusty and cottage had musty smell. Both wash bowl and drain rack dirty. No wood for fire and no complimentries such as welcome pack on arrival. It had said on website feed back that these previous issues addressed by last holiday guests would be addressed and the cottage would be revamped before the next holiday guests arrived in sept but this was not the case. I feel that if I had know bout these issues then I may have booked somewhere else. These issues should not have said they had been fixed when the work had not been done. My friend has asthma and it wasn't fair to her.

We are pleased that you liked the cottage and thank you for your feedback. During the first week of October the cottage has had a full refresh. The broken items have been replaced and the cottage has had a full steam clean throughout. We have also repainted the walls where needed. The cottage is now in tip top condition as would be expected. A starter wood pack is supplied in the winter months. If any issues are found please report immediately to John Bray so that they be rectified immediately. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at this fantastic little cottage."

It was everything we needed and was super cosy. The pictures and description were accurate and Mr Harris was no problem! Maintainece wise, the wifi cut on day 3 along with all the electrics flashing (bathroom towel rail). The boiler in the bedroom behind the cupboard was flashing a green light at night which was annoying. We couldn’t get access to the boiler to work out what was going on - to do with the no wifi? We called maintenance on Wednesday but nothing seemed to have changed, therefore we had no wifi for the rest of our stay. Consequently, the radiator in the bedroom was bleeping, no heated towel rail so towels were damp and all electrics were flashing 24/7. Despite this, it didn’t taint the stay but was an inconvenience. I do think it would be a nice touch to provide basic amenities - tea, coffee, oil, foil, washing up liquid etc rather than the previous guests purchases (left overs). The bed was super comfy, clean and everything we needed. FYI, I would recommended washing the downstairs sofa blanket! Made us super sneezy!!! All in all, was a fab stay and we would recommend this to another couple.

We are really pleased to hear you reply enjoyed your stay at our cottage. Regarding the Internet connection, as owners it was confirmed to us that the Internet had gone down on Friday. We immediately called the Service Provider and they are sending out an Engineer as soon as possible to investigate the problem. Thank you for your feedback on having a welcome pack. We are currently investigating this (we do not live in the cottage) but hope to provide something soon. Thanks also for informing the the sofa blanket needs a clean. We will ask John Bray’s to organise this immediately. Thank you very much for your overall positive feedback and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The situation of cottage is great."

It’s very central, close to the harbour and surprisingly quiet at night. BUT… we found The Bakehouse cold and unwelcoming. As others have mentioned, there wasn’t even a starter bundle of logs and kindling and the radiators were locked, so we couldn’t turn the central heating up. There was no sign of teabags or coffee sachets, let alone milk. Perhaps the desirable location of the cottage means the owners feel they don’t need to make an effort? We’ve stayed in a lot of self-catering properties. They are usually warm and welcoming, with little personal touches – the opposite of our experience at The Bakehouse. We have never written a negative review before. (Also, the shower leaked into the downstairs room but I’m sure that will be fixed before the next occupant arrives.)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am sorry that you found your stay in The Bakehouse disappointing. It is a shame that you found the property to be cold and unwelcoming and that we weren't made aware of this during your stay as we could have rectified this for you. The heating was set too low, this time of year the cottage was freezing, heating was on 21 could have done with 23, also would have been nice for a few logs and kindling to be inc as when we arrived we could not use fire or get logs from anywhere nearby A extra blanket would help to keep occupants warm

Sorry to hear that you felt the house was cold during this very cold winter snap. Normally 21 degrees is the idea for most of the time but if needed the temperature on each of the electric radiators can be adjusted up or down on the LED panels to the required setting. I will ask JB if it is possible to provide logs and extra blankets during the winter months. We hope you had an enjoyable stay in Port Isaac! Property Owner

The cottage was snug and well designed for that snugness. However we were surprised that having booked for Christmas we were provided with no festive decorations, no festive welcome. We have rarely found this with other Christmas bookings. On arrival logs and kindling, some milk and coffee for the first evening would have been nice. We appreciate that old house are costly to run but the centrally controlled heating meant that the bedroom on the first evening was set to 7 degrees….rather chilly! The bed was very comfy and the water always hot.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We appriciate you making us aware of the lack of decorations, hamper and the heating quite low. • "Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay."

. Cottage was small as expected but had pretty much everything you could need. Couple of very minor things as reported to John Bray during our stay. The shower hadn't been cleaned properly.. tge grouting was dirty not with mould but black with dirt in the lower part of the shower which could be wiped off by rubbing with a cloth. A good scrub with a brush would have sorted this. The tap in the kitchen was constant ly dripping. This was meant to have been fixed during our stay but wasn't. The induction hob display for one of the rings was broken meaning you couldn't see what setting it was on and despite putting the other ring on number 9 didn't seem to boil water no matter how long it was left for.. A new induction hob would be great. Toilet seat was lose and slid around.. was reported and meant to have been fixed during our stay but wasn't. Above are really minor issues, nothing major and didn't ruin our stay. For a couple wanting a small cottage right in the centre of the village this fits the bill.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you thouroughly enjoyed your stay at our lovely cottage. Regarding the minor issues you reported, I've asked John Bray to ask the maintenance team to pop round to have a look. We've also asked that the cleaner is notified that the shower needs a good clean. Sorry to hear that one of the hobs is now longer working. I've now ordered a replacement SMEG unit that will be fitted as a replacement. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future! Property Owner

Otherwise it was perfect.

Thank you for your feedback and are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. I've spoken to John Bray to clarify the directions as requested. As an aid for future visitors, we now added a pin on Google maps to point to the exact location to our cottage. Property Owner

The cleaners really let this lovely property down. To be fair I got a call and a answer machine message from the agent a couple of days in to ask how things were but unfortunately didn't pick it up until end of the week due to my signal. A clean cottage and I would go back .

We are really sorry to hear that the cottage was not up to the normal cleanliness standards that is usually provided.. This is very unusual as we've never received feedback like this before. We take this very seriously and have spoken directly to the Manager to ensure that the Cleaner does a proper job during each house clean. We can only apologise for this and hope it did not ruin your holiday! I will be monitoring this with the Manager over the rest of the season to ensure that this does not happen again! Due to the fact that the shops would be closed from the 24th December evening until 26th December morning we were imagining that maybe there might be more supplied. Also found absolutely no kindling or logs. We bought logs from home assuming there would be some kindling. Most holiday lets have a supply for at least one fire. We thought due the very expensive costs of the stay that these would have been supplied - thus these two comments. Otherwise a lovely very compact cottage and a great location in a great Port Isaac.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our cottage and its location. Regarding the lack of toilet roll and tinder for the fire we will discuss with John Bray to see if they can provide more for our guests. Whilst we appreciate the cottage was self catered, some tea, coffee and refreshments would have been appreciated, especially after a long journey. As guest we were asked to keep the cottage clean and tidy, but we not provided with cleaning cloths etc and when requested were told they would not be provided. The kitchen was well equipped overall, but there were no baking trays, foil or cling film. All of these issues could have been resolved for just a couple of pounds per letting, but would have made the experience more enjoyable. We requested additional towels as only one set per person was provided for the week and was told we would have to pay to hire them, again I feel this is a bit much to ask of guests. The bed and pillows were far too uncomfortable for our liking.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Your comments have been passed on to the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays. The only constructive feedback I would give is that you can’t open the freezer properly because the door is blocked by the wall, there’s not much cupboard space for food shopping, and I would have loved there to have been a washing machine. However, none of these things were a real issue, and they certainly didn’t dampen my stay. • "We very much enjoyed our stay at The Bakehouse."

Knowing it was a small property, I was concerned it might feel a little shut in, also being tucked away behind other cottages, but this was not the case at all. It had been beautifully renovated and was very well equipped and very comfortable. We had only visited Port Isaac before, never stayed and it was a pleasant surprise how peaceful it was in the evening and at night, once all the day visitors had left. The complete lack of traffic noise at night was a joy. We enjoyed eating at The Mote where we had an excellent meal with very friendly service. We also had fish and chips on the beach. Parking could be a slight issue, but we enjoyed the extra 10 minutes walk by the sea every day. The only evening we had trouble parking was on the Friday, when the village was suddenly very busy. We did not know what was happening until we heard singing and realised Fishermans Friends were playing on the beach. It was fabulous and the best end to our week in the village. The only thing we struggled with was operating the oven. I would suggest leaving a copy of the manufacturers manual with the cottage info. Many thanks for your help with our booking.
