  • "The cottage was lovely."

Very clean. The children loved the little den in the loft space. Easy parking with extra in the little car park behind. Would love to stay again! Checkout is quite early which was tricky with young children and an elderly relative.

It was warm and comfortable, the kids were happy as they had their own space and the walled garden was a real suntrap which was really appreciated on the windy days.

  • "We absolutely loved this property."

Just a 10 minute walk to Porth Beach. Great pub with good food on the doorstep. The kids loved the snug in the attic. The house was very clean and comfortable. I stay in Newquay quite regularly due to having family there and this was the nicest place we have stayed at. Just a shame we cannot stay again as we are having a dog.

This is a lovely house which is in a good location it’s a 10 minute walk to porth beach , we have stayed in it a few times now as we love the size of the house and it’s great having two shower rooms and a main bathroom the thing that lets this house down is the cleanliness the cleaner only has enough time to do the bathrooms and floors and kitchen and a hover it needs a deep clean once a month as it’s very dusty the head boards in the bedrooms where thick with dust so I cleaned them my self as are the skirtings , there is now a cracked glass panel in the kitchen roof which is over the dinning table which I see was mentioned in a comment in august which has not been fixed and when it rains there is a leak over the breakfast bar which has been like this for the last few years the owner does need to keep the maintenance up as these things let what is a lovely house down and can easily be fixed , we did enjoy the week in this house but it just needs a bit of care and attention

  • "Garden Access On arrival there were no keys to unlock door to garden."

Contacted Kathy on WhatsApp but no reply. (I had a reply from her the week previous when I discussed child needs for property) We tried to call landline but didn’t connect and so after several days, we called mobile number and spoke to Kathy on the Wednesday. Apparently, Sykes should have contacted us prior to our arrival to make us aware that there was no access to property as some previous guests from two weeks before has taken the keys with them. The previous guests were due to send the keys via the post and we should have been told to await the package. A package arrived and enclosed was an apology letter from the previous family with two electrical extension leads but no keys. We spoke to Kathy to let her know. A locksmith was then arranged to come to the property on Thursday but... we as guests were asked if we were able to be at the property to let the locksmith in. We advised we were not staying in on our holiday to wait for a locksmith and had to leave a key for them to access the property whilst we were out for the day. We booked a house with an enclosed garden as have two children who would have loved to access this to see the animals at the rear of the property and for some additional space It was such a shame that we were not able to access the garden at the property until the Friday of the last full day of our holiday. This is major safety issue as we has no alternative fire escape as two of the three access routes out of the property were locked. Requested Child Items On booking the property, I stated that we would need stairgates, cot and a highchair for a two-year-old. Upon arriving at the property, I had to search the property for the items requested. I found one stairgate in the bunk-bed room at the side of the headboard. The other stargate was in the under the stairs cupboard underneath some bedding (unsure if clean or spare as not folded or in any cases etc) and I had to move all this bedding to find all the fixings scattered on the floor. I Whatsapped Kathy a week before our arrival (21st August) to confirm the item needed to which Kathy responded. When I messaged on the Sunday (29th August) and again on Monday (30th) these were not responded to. Both messages were delivered but unread. We never found the highchair. Cleanliness Overall the property was adequate for use. In the kitchen area, the fridge was not clean upon arrival, and we cleaned before use. The downstairs toilet extractor fan was extremely dusty, and the dust had fallen on the doorframe and looked as not cleaned for some time. Rooms looked clean with bedding etc but when item moved, lots of dust in locality near wall sockets etc. Possibly needs a deep clean once a month especially in peak season. We tried to keep the property as clean as possible but to have one small outside green bin and a couple of bags for a large family for a weeks stay was quite full very quickly. A second bin would have been better rather than being advised to use a curtain to cover rubbish upon driveway. Shattered Window in skylight Window pane in skylight in kitchen was shattered and reported to management company. (Apparently previous renters had not reported this) I know nothing possibly could have been done in our holiday, but again a safety concern as directly over the dining table. Other issues- Shower screen in Twin room broken/easily derailed Shower in master blocked upon arrival and we fixed this as otherwise unable to use Curtains didn’t fit windows so when closed, gaps at the top and bottom let light through. Nets were held up with blue tack and a tension rod.

  • "The location of the house is great."

Good access to walks and Porth and the pub on the doorstep was great. The only thing that let the house down was the cleanliness of it which can be swiftly fixed. The house was very dusty throughout, windows needed cleaning inside and out and the showers filled up with water because the drains needed cleaning out. This detracted from what is a lovely house with great facilities for a large family. Parking useful too. It seemed obvious that whoever is cleaning this house for changeover has a very limited time and only managed to get beds changed, bathrooms cleaned and the kitchen cleaned. Other areas were not up to scratch and I would not pay next years summer prices for this.

The house was nice a few things need doing but was a good holiday home was disappointed with the cleaning as we could not get in till 5 expected it to be spotless all the Rubbish from the previous tenants was left at front and the seagulls had rip open the bags and spread it all about so our first job was to pick it up and put it in new bags when the bin men came 3 days later they only took what was in a very small bin so lots of bags were still left I think it should be removed after every tenant leave so the new ones have somewhere to put their rubbish

We loved staying in this house it’s a great size and is really homely , the kitchen was well stocked and the fridge freezer is a lovely size , we used the bbq which worked really well the garden and side gate is great for when you come back from the beach there’s a hose pipe to wash your beach shoes and things out , the place was nice and clean I was worried after seeing the last review so they must of took note of that , there are a few cobwebs but it’s a big house to clean and I noted the hover didn’t have a long pipe to reach them so think you need to get one that does reach especially The dome in the middle of the kitchen , we loved the showers in the bathrooms and the bedrooms where lovely and comfy a great house and a good location took us 10 mins to drive to watergate bay , and a lovely walk to Porth from the house we will be back next year thanks for a great holiday

  • "The cleanliness was horrendous, to say we’re in a pandemic myself and my sister in law had to clean the house on arrival."

I then rang the number provided and they sent a cleaner out (she cleaned 2 sinks and mopped the floors) the mattress protectors was filthy and also the sofa smelt, assuming that hadn’t been cleaned in between guests There was a bag of rubbish left on the front that the neighbours told us had been there nearly 2 Months. I seriously think you need to change the cleaning company used! House is beautiful, possible new bbq needed but other than the cleaning ISSUE and it really was an issue especially during the current climate the house and location is lovely!

Would be nice to have a tv in the main bedrooms .. Do not worry about church bells which was mentioned by someone else I hardly heard any bells at all! If you have a 4x4 like I do just park outside the front as you won't fit in the drive. Lovely 7 minute walk to Porth beach .

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hillview cottage."

Everything we could have possibly needed to make our stay comfortable was provided. We like to cook, and found the kitchen/diner had everything we needed with a light filled dining space to share a meal in the evening. The books and games provided were a bonus, and gave us the chance to spend some well needed family time together. The location is excellent, with a short walk to Porth beach and a friendly local pub and shop within walking distance. Newquay centre was also walkable from the house. The children enjoyed chilling out in the spacious bedrooms and loft area. We would definitely return to this property.

  • "Overall we were very happy with the cottage, it's lovely and comfortable, good facilities, and we would recommend it to our friends in a heartbeat."

However we do have some constructive feedback which I hope is helpful....the main issue we had was the general cleanliness of the plave.... when we arrived there was rubbish piled up in the driveway which hadn't been sorted, an old curtain was included and everything was soggy and wet, it required us to have to empty all the bags and arrange the recycling correctly which wasn't pleasant. I appreciate it has to be put out, however there's no excuse for it just being left in a nasty wet pile for someone else to sort out. There was a bag full of rubbish left in one of the bathrooms upstairs which I presume the cleaners had forgotten, and the whole house had several large black cobwebs which we didn't go looking for, they were clearly visible so I don't know how the cleaners didn't spot them. The kitchen table was sticky, so we cleaned it ourselves using antibac spray and the cloth was black once we had finished, this demonstrated that the general level of cleaning wasn't great and may need to be picked up with whoever is responsible. I also think it's worth warning people that the driveway is extremely tight, and that the church tower chimes every 15 minutes 24 hours a day which could prove to be disruptive for families with young children, especially when it's hot and you've got the windows open at night. I hope this helps Thanks

  • "2nd year booking this fantastic cottage."

Family of 7- 2 adults and 5 children between 6-13 years old. Plenty of space for everyone, great size kitchen with big dining table and utility room. Location is good for Porth beach and Watergate Bay. Pub across the road is family friendly and provides good meals and drinks for all. The Co-op in the village is very handy but the Aldi in Newquay provides a good full shop- and is only 10 min drive from cottage. Parking for 2 cars not a problem outside cottage and using church car park behind cottage. The only negative we had this year compared to last year was that the house was quite dirty in places. Skirting boards and kitchen floor particularly. When the toys rolled under the sofa.... it was a pretty grim experience retrieving it. If that could be rectified then the rating would get 10 every time!

The only drawback at first is the church next door ringing it’s bells all night? You get used to it after a few days but the first nights sleep was interrupted by these bells! We had a great week as the weather was kind to us. Would return again if in the area.

  • "The house was amazing, sparkling clean, comfortable and absolutely perfect for our holiday."

With 5 adults ranging across 3 generations, the house offered the perfect living space to get together for some family time, while being spacious enough to offer private space for everyone. If I was forced to find faults, I would say that parking can be a bit of a bother due to the narrow street (but still certainly doable and you have a permanent spot in front of the house). the double fridge door requires some getting used to and we could have used an extra recycling bag / box for bottles and tins (nudge nudge wink wink). I am really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find these "faults" because if I go on holiday down that side of the world again, I will first look to see whether this house is available because I would rent it again in a heartbeat.
