  • "Amazing place."

Thanks for letting us stay. Close enough to the beach that we could walk down in our wetsuits.

  • "Jackie and Richard are great hosts, very helpful and friendly with great knowledge of local area and places to visit."

Lovely property- bright, spacious, clean, well equipped and fantastic location. Easy walking distance to Porthcurno beach with lovely clear water and great little cafe. Car parking space and access to lovely front garden and B-B-Q. We were lucky enough to have fantastic weather and enjoyed all the local beaches which were in easy driving distance. If you are taking a grumpy teenager, bear in mind there is only one television! Would definitely visit again.

  • "Our stay at the Chynance was just fabulous!"

We were visiting from London to perform in a show at the Minack Theatre which was only a short walk away - very helpful indeed! The apartment is simply beautiful and really spacious - a huge open plan living room, large bedroom with very comfy beds and a beautiful kitchen equipped with everything you might possibly need during your stay - plenty of glasses, mugs, places and cutlery. There was also washing up liquid and soap (always a problem when you have just arrived and not had time to get to the shops!) which was a lovely surprise and there was even a Cornish cream tea waiting for us in the kitchen! There are two gorgeous bathrooms and two great, powerful showers. There is a lovely garden in the front with benches to sit in the sun and a charcoal BBQ. All great and worked perfectly. The owners of the apartment live in the same building and are always available to help and advise. They were very helpful indeed and went out of their way to ensure all our needs were met - thank you so much Jack, Richard and Sarah! With Sarah working at the Minack Theatre, we had lots to chat about and we all quickly became friends :-). We will definitely be back! Eliza, Greg and family x

  • "A lovely spacious place to stay whilst we were performing at the Minack."

Well equipped with all the facilities you could need. Do take all the food basics (salt/pepper/oil) with you though, as apart from the lovely cream tea on arrival no food items are kept in the kitchen. Jackie was a friendly and communicative host and we wouldn't hesitate to return. Thanks for a great stay!

  • "Perfect property for us, large, had everything we needed and felt like home."

Near Porthcurno Telegraph Museum, beautiful beach, Minack Theatre, beach cafe, walks, and a good base for travelling further afield. Owners lovely and the cream tea, on arrival, especially welcome. Thank you for letting us stay there.

  • "Lovely property in a beautiful location."

Sykes Cottages and the Owners were most helpful from the outset with our booking, and Holiday information. We look forward to returning.

  • "This apartment was spotless and spacious."

It was extremely well equipped with all one would need for the holiday stay. It was also very tastefully decorated. The Cornish Cream Tea which was provided by Jackie after arrival was most enjoyable and a lovely gesture. The hosts, Jackie, Sarah and Richard were so helpful in every way and in relation to local attractions especially the Minack Theatre, which is really worth a visit. The information booklet regarding the items in the house and also local attractions was very informative - one of the best that I have seen in many years of using self catering. The phone call from Jackie prior to our stay was helpful and also the directions to the property of going through Sennen, rather then following the SatNav. We would certainly highly recommend this apartment.

The property

Chynance is just a short stroll from the spectacular, award-winning white sandy beaches of Porthcurno Bay, often described as a ‘coastal paradise’, with its dramatic granite cliffs overlooking a fabulous jade sea –a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A distinctive, elegant, and deceptively spacious Victorian first-floor apartment within an historic building, Chynance, Cornish for ‘House in the Valley’, once housed staff from the iconic Porthcurno Telegraph Station.

It was from here, the (PK) Telegraph staff sent messages around the world, through undersea telegraph cables, a forerunner of the modern internet.

Chynance has recently been lovingly restored in keeping with its original charm and heritage, making it an ideal base for a couple, family, or group of up to six looking for a relaxing beach holiday, theatre or walking break.

From here you can explore the natural beauty, wildlife, and heritage of this exceptional part of Cornwall.

On arrival, park your car without worry, in your own designated off-road parking space, that can accommodate 2-3 small cars.

On walking up the drive, you will pass the charming, sunny, secluded, south west facing front garden, where you will find a patio, picnic table, benches, traditional seaside deckchairs and barbecue for alfresco dining.

Head up to the first floor where you'll find a comfortable cosy ‘snug’, this leads to a large, light, attractively furnished living/dining room where you can relax on the settees and admire the rural view across the valley.

Here you can enjoy your delicious traditional Cornish cream tea at the dining table, on arrival, before unwinding in front of the TV.

The woodburning stove is perfect for fireside evenings during the colder winter months.

In the attractive, well-equipped modern kitchen you'll find everything you need to create some delicious holiday meals, including a wine cooler to ensure your favourite bottles are always served chilled.

There are three delightfully furnished, comfortable and relaxing bedrooms to choose from, including a king, a double and a twin, all served by a well-equipped bathroom with an overhead shower as well as a handy separate shower room.

A washing machine and ironing table can be found in the small utility room to the rear of the apartment, making it easy to keep your holiday wardrobe looking its best.

Just a short walk away is the world-famous open air Minack Theatre, which is carved into the clifftop with its sub-tropical gardens, offering stunning sea views across Porthcurno Bay.

It provides an unmissable opportunity to catch a live performance from its wide-ranging programme of live theatre, musicals, music and entertainment against what must surely be one of the most dramatic theatrical backdrops in the world.

Actors and producers involved in the theatre productions also frequently stay at Chynance and add to our star guest list!

Visit Porthgwarra, Penberth, Sennen and Land’s End with their diverse selection of coastal attractions which are all easily accessible by foot or just a short drive or bus ride away.

The Penwith peninsula offers some spectacular scenery that can be easily explored using the Cornish coastal path with remote beaches, quaint fishing villages, open moorland, dotted with old tin mines and inland ancient monuments, including early bronze age stone circles and settlements.

Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole, Marazion, St Michael’s Mount and St Ives are also easily accessible by car or bus.

Enjoy the beautiful harbours, cafes, pubs, restaurants, craft shops and art galleries including the Tate Modern (St Ives), the Newlyn Art Gallery and the Penlee House Gallery and Museum as well as Penzance’s beautiful open-air art deco Lido and geothermal pool.

If you feel you need to venture further afield then a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat, plane or helicopter provides a wonderful day out.

This beautiful apartment is the perfect choice for a holiday getaway, for families, couples, and friends to enjoy and explore this spectacular coastal location.
