  • "Porthleven is a lovely place with 3 lovely pubs (though the Harbour Inn isn't as characterful or friendly as The Atlantic Inn & the Ship)."

The property is beautiful, has comfortable beds & 2 toilets! It overlooks the harbour and gets sun from mid afternoon to sunset. The beach is just round the corner. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thank you for leaving your feedback for us. We do mention that the steps to the property are steep in the description and we advise on two different places to park while on holiday at Haven. - The Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved our stay here."

The views over the harbour are stunning, I love Porthleven so being able to stay here was great. I haven't given 5 stars only because the only thing letting this lovely place down is the old sash windows and storage heaters! We arrived just as the storm was blowing over, the wind was blowing through the windows alot that the blinds and curtains were moving with the wind, and blowing through the front and porch door making the house cold. These really need replacing with double glazing like the houses next door, and central heating really needs to put in place in the house. That aside the house is lovely, clean and comfortable and being able to sit outside and watch the sunset was amazing :) will definitely stay again.

Thank you for writing feedback. It is unfortunate that your booking coincided with Storm Eunice and Storm Dudley. We have never had a comment about the house being too cold before and imagine this was down to the extreme weather that the country experienced. We are glad to hear that despite this you would stay again, hopefully this time with better weather! - The Owner Relations Team. Property Owner

  • "The Haven is a great place to stay."

Amazing location on the harbour and very well equipped. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well especially as there is no traffic noise. The lounge chairs and sofa could have been more comfortable. Our only issue was with the intermittent internet connection. We know that this is probably due to the location but perhaps more could be done to boost the signal. The TV had no BBC stations tuned in and watching iplayer was almost impossible due to connection issues. We managed to park on the harbour road each evening which was lucky and found Porthleven an interesting place to stay with more restaurants, shops and facilities than expected for a small place. Friends have already asked me how to book The Haven.

My expectations on reading reviews were that the house might be a bit tired. It was really well furnished, comfortable, fresh and clean. Amazing location on the harbour, sitting on the terrace in the sun with those views was a joy every day.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We take this very seriously and apologise for the fact that our usually high cleaning standards fell short of expectations on this occasion. • "We have ahd a fantastic week staying at The Haven."

The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, and, oh, what a view! There is no better location in Porthleven. We spent many hours sitting out on the front terrace with a book/coffee/meal/glass of wine and the family. This gets the sun from lunchtime onwards, and there are spectacular views of the waves crashing on the rocks to the left, and the harbour to the right. It's the perfect place to watch the boats going in and out, people walking about, and brave souls jumping off the harbour wall (I did this too - if you fancy it, make sure it's high tide!) The house is very well equipped - we even got a brand new TV and DVD player! We ate in most of the time and were able to cook no problem. The decor is modern, with new bathroom and kitchen, and lovely little touches to add to the nautical feel. Porthleven also had everything we needed - we didn't even move the car for 5 days after arriving. We loved wandering around the craft shops, walking on the coastal path east to Loe Bar and west part of the way to Praa Sands, and paddle-borading and kayaking with Ian from Verticle Blue, based right on the harbour. We spent a sunny day on the beach, a 2-minute walk away, and loved watching the waves crashing here and on the end of the harbour wall. Porthleven has plenty of restaurants and cafes for all budgets and tastes - our favourite being Nauti But Ice ice-cream, and Philps Pasties! It may be useful to note that there are steps up to the house. The picnic table was really handy for eating and playing games, but a comfier patio sofa or bench with cushions would also have been nice, for sitting to appreciate the view. Porthleven is now one of our faqvourite places. We would love to visit The Haven again. Many thanks to Chris for a fantastic week in this beautiful house.

What a great place to stay. The house was very clean and very well aquiped. The only thing we have to complain is the furnishing of the terrace. The wooden seat furniture is uncomfortable to sit on. We would recommend to change it to modern lounge equipment with comfortable cushions. Everything else was perfect.

  • "The Haven was in a position in the harbour, that gave dramatic views, very close to the sea."

This was a bit of a shock to start with! The sound and feel of the wind was amazing, but the strength of it could have been difficult for a frail person. We did see a lady fall and bump her head as she moved across the road, to allow a car to pass. The steps were deep, especially to the front of the property. They would benefit from being lit, especially as we arrived in the dark. The food shops were adequate for the week, however we ate out at every meal almost, in a different venue each time, around the harbour. The cornish pasties were lovely. There were galleries, clothing ,gift and craft shops. There were 3 things in the house that would have made our holiday more enjoyable. 1. No draughts coming through all the front windows.( the lounge and 2 bedrooms) 2. A shower that had a continuous flow of water, and didnt need resetting. 3. Being asked to vacate the house by 10.00am, and the cleaner arriving at 9.30am. We have loved Cornwall and will return soon. Linda Paul.

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for its annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with its National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
