  • "We had a lovely stay at Gurnards Cottage."

All the creature comforts including fresh scones, cream and jam welcomed us on arrival. The cottage was clean and the bed very comfy. The log burner was fantastic after a good walk in the February weather. An added bonus was that our favorite pub/restaurant was a stones throw away. We will be going back as soon as we can.

  • "The property is in need of some TLC."

The furniture in the lounge is not very comfortable and the lighting is poor, making this a gloomy room. The 'garden' areas are a mess, especially the back one. The worst aspect of our holiday, however, was the scampering and banging which appeared to come from behind the walls and above the ceilings upstairs. This kept me awake at nights. As the bedrooms do not adjoin another property, I can only assume this was rats? We came home early, partly because this was quite a depressing holiday cottage to spend a week in.

Thank you for your feedback, we take this extremely seriously - had you mentioned this when we saw you during your stay we would have investigated your concerns immediately. You will see from our 70+ reviews that there has never been any evidence of rodents at the property and the two sets of guests who have stayed since your departure have not reported any disturbance. Just prior to your stay a roofer attended to fix some storm damaged tiles, had he noticed anything at all untoward in the roof space he would have let us know. You may not have noticed that Gurnard's Cottage is a terraced cottage and the two bedrooms are each attached to another property: the smaller bedroom is attached to the right hand cottage and the main bedroom attached on both sides. While we have never received reports of noise from the adjoining properties, this could have been what you heard. Notwithstanding, we are arranging for someone to attend the property to investigate. Three precautionary visits from a pest control contractor found no rats, dead or alive at the property. Property Owner

The cottage has sea views and it's a stone's throw from the fabulous Gurnard's Head pub/restaurant. We found Gurnard's Cottage very cosy and clean as well as being extremely well equipped. We really appreciated the delicious welcome gifts and the essentials such as milk and fresh eggs. We also thought that the fresh flowers throughout the cottage were a lovely touch. We had a great week exploring this dramatic section of the South West Coast Path as well as having fun with our dog on the local sandy beaches and then returning to the relaxing atmosphere of the cottage. All in all highly recommended.

It’s a few paces from the Gurnard’s Head pub/restaurant and only a half hour walk from lovely Zennor and the buzzing Tinners’ Arms. Everything was comfy and set up for a relaxed week. Many thanks for the delicious scones, eggs and beautiful flowers that greeted us, and the dogs loved their little treats too. Penzance (petrol, shops, amazing pasties at The Cornish Oven) is only a beautiful 4 mile road trip away, and we were within easy reach of Gwynver/Sennen, Men-an-Tol, St Michael’s Mount, St Ives and Mousehole. Also took just under an hour to Helford ferry and beautiful Trebah Gardens - worth the drive. Highly recommended!

Log fire, well equipped kitchen, a conservatory to read and sketch in, a large bath to relax in. All good. Not given full marks for comfort as took a bit of time to work out where electric heater was to make conservatory comfortable and sometimes front room, storage heaters not always predictable. If I had visited during summer I imagine none of these things would be a problem. A very nice Cornish cottage and would love to stay again.

General maintenance was good along with cleanliness. Let down by the fur coat under the very uncomfortable sofa. When dogs, kept downstairs greet you on your midnight visit to the loo, as an IOSH level H&S I would suggest if there is a high level accident potential, then rather risk assessment around it just remove it. We used the car 1 day out of the whole week, we used the local bus service which went from the Gurnards Head Hotel every hour (about 100 yards from cottage) and it took us all around the South West coast, it was amazing! And only a 20 minute bus ride to St Ives. The cottage itself was very clean, had everything you needed, and very comfortable. We loved using the log burner as we'd never used one before! The only negative was the TV box was quite difficult to use and we couldn't get all the channels, but that's nothing major. Would highly recommend, we absolutely loved our stay!

Beds were super comfy which led to a good nights sleep, and no traffic noise or light pollution at all, just the cow’s mooing Nextdoor waiting to be milked. We used the log burner, because it was there, it wasn’t even that cold but I’ve always wanted one. Did all our cooking in the cottage and everything worked, loads of utensils, plenty of pots and pans and proper wine glasses!!! No negatives other than getting used to a downstairs bathroom but then that is normal in cottages. G9t everything we needed and even more, the washing machine made a huge difference, first time when we found this in a cottage. Absolutely spotless, in a very quiet location, with sea view, a dream to go to sleep and hear the waves breaking in the rocks, a dream to wake up and have a coffea while watching the sea. The owners definitely left more that we expected: Milk, tea, scones, cornish butter, jam, washing liquid and hand wash, dishwasher tablets, washing machine detergent, lots of towels, wood for the fire (more than enough for a week), I mean sooooooooooooo wow, after we travelled hours and hours, we did appreciate everything, as our plan for going shopping before checking in didn't go so well.. The owners don't live on site so you just don't have the feeling that someone is watching every move you make. That's a very huge plus.. The cottage it's in a great location, between St Ives and Penzance so you can easily explore all without spending much in the car. We had the best time and we will definitely book again, and if the owners read this, all I can say it's a huge thank you for looking after us so beautifully.

Frische Blumen in jedem Zimmer. Zusammengefasst hat alles gepasst und wir hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit.

  • "The cottage was lovely the welcome pack the owner left was very thoughtful touch."

And the flowers she left in each room was very thoughtful too. Everything was great except a uncomfortable sofa and chair.

  • "My husband and I have stayed in a lot of cottages over the years, Gurnards Cottage beats the lot!"

Our only small negative is the 2 steps from the kitchen to the living area, one step would have been better and safer.

The property

Seaward facing with stunning views across Gurnard's Head towards the Atlantic coastline, this characterful granite cottage nestles in the working farm hamlet of Treen, three quarters of a mile from Zennor and within six miles of sublime St Ives.

The ground floor entrance leads into a modern kitchen, through to the quaint sitting room with ceiling beams and exposed granite walls as well as a superb fireplace with wood burner.

A second door then leads into the sunroom, opening into the gravelled courtyard patio, the perfect spot for a nightcap.

On the first floor you will find the pretty main bedroom is comfy and cosy with exposed stone wall and also the single room perfect for a child or adult.

There is an open garden at the front which has a bench and also a tap for muddy paws or sandy toes.

The Cornwall Coast Path is paces away.

Ten minutes walk away, accessed by scrambling across rocks, lies sheltered, sandy Treen Cove, with its towering ruined copper mine.

The end one of four old cottages within a small cluster of properties, Gurnard's Cottage has romantic charm, with its tranquil situation also attracting serious walkers, artists, photographers and writers.

Neighbouring dairy cows idle by twice daily, and a renowned pub restaurant is a short stroll up the lane.

Zennor is a tiny village snuggled in a craggy valley of moorland nooks and rocky hills, scattered with footpaths and antiquities including Zennor Quoit and nearby Chysauster Settlement.

It is home to a gift shop, cafe and ice cream shop and church with its own legendary mermaid - nearby is the ancient Tinner’s Arms pub.

Cornwall's historic mining landscape lies nearby, including the spectacular Crown Mines at Botallack.

A tranquil cottage in an outstanding location, perfect for couples or a small family.

About the location

ST IVES

Penzance 6 miles.

One of Cornwall's prettiest harbour towns, St Ives offers narrow streets, tight-packed cottages nestling around the quayside, the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum, fabulous beaches, superb shops, a thriving community of artists, great pubs and restaurants and much more. With its semi Bohemian lifestyle and romantic air, it's easy to see why this is the county's premier holiday resort. The surrounding area has much for the visitor to see and do with abundant wildlife, fabulous coastal walks, top quality surfing and the Celtic mysteries of the Land's End Peninsula are all within easy reach. A superb destination!
