  • "The location was excellent, details of access to the beach along the path next to the bus stop would be helpful for holiday makers."

The housekeeping could be improved upon as we had to sweep the floors especially under the beds before unpacking.

  • "The property was as listed, absolutely lovely and in a great location."

Porthtowan and the road were both beautiful and quiet as well as being a perfect base for exploring Cornwall. With regards the house there were a couple of things that would improve it. Bigger external refuse bin/s, more garden seating, better dusting (many cobwebs were around the windows and ceilings).

  • "Thank you for sharing your home with us we had a great stay in a good spot for our travels."

Your home is beautiful but in need of a little tlc. We needed bulbs in our downstairs lamps which were not working and none in cupboard. Tv control not working we used last of your batteries. You only left us 4 bath towels for 5 of us (the 15 Yr old is 6' 1" so the extra hand towel didn't cut it). Rusty toilet roll holders and our bedroom door handle was falling off. Just little things that make a big difference. However the two main issues that will stay with me are the really sticky/grotty dining table and chairs. I cleaned them all down on arrival but it's ready for a sand down or something as the stickiness lingers on and after long days exploring, walking, swimming etc sitting down on the sofa to relax should be a given but the sofas have lost all their cushioning we could feel the sofa frames when we set down. Extremely uncomfortable and low to get back out of. As many other people said the house could do with decorating as all the touch ups spoil the walls.

  • "Lovely property in a nice location well situated for visiting different parts of Cornwall."

All the rooms are a nice size with plenty of space & storage. The rear garden is a nice enclosed space with a nice outlook. The welcome pack was a nice surprise on arrival thank you. We struggled a bit with the central heating system running out of hot water most evenings as there were 5 of us. This was reported but we were told that's how it is due the the heatpump system fitted. I guess this would not be an issue in the summer months when the weather is warmer. As mentioned by others a cheese grater would of been handy in the kitchen, also a couple of baking trays possibly. Blackout curtains would be a great addition to the front bedroom windows too. The property could probably do with decorating if I'm honest as most of the walls look to have been touched up but look patchy this was no detrement to our stay just spoilt the overall look of the property. Also the lino in the upstairs bedroom is starting to bubble up slightly which may present a tripping hazard eventually. Lastly there didn't appear to be any instructions for what to do with bedding etc on checkout day. We did remove it for the cleaners as this is what's normally asked. Overall a great holiday home in a lovely place.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. The heating and hot water are provided by an Air Source Heat Pump, so the water does take a little while to heat up, if several showers are taken in succession. A cheese grater and some baking trays will be purchased. There was a leak in the bathroom a few years ago and the water got in under the lino, which does cause it to bubble up from time to time but not to the extent to cause a tripping hazard. We are glad that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed not only the property and the location but were also able to visit different areas of Cornwall. Property Owner

  • "Lovely stay at this lovely home which was nice and clean on arrival."

It would be good to have more instructions around the dustbins, recycling and food waste. We drove most of our recycling to a recycle centre as we didn’t want to leave it all. The bed in the downstairs bedroom was quite low, my parents did find it a bit tricky getting up from it so it might be worth noting in the listing. The welcome pack with scones, cream, jam and milk was a really lovely surprise and delicious. Kitchen well equipped, although we couldn’t find a cheese grater which would have come in handy and a flatter baking tray for chips would be useful. Overall a really lovely accommodation.

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean on arrival, and we had a really lovely stay."

We were pleased to find the telly had HDMI compatibility so we could watch netflix etc. The beds were very comfy and the house decorated very nicely ao it was calming to be in. It was only a short walk to the beach, although be warned the walk back is a bit of a hike. It would have been nice to have a dryer as it took a long time to get our clothes dry. It was also dissapointimg to find the coffee maker was broken as we bought coffee grounds to use it and then needed to go back out to get instant when we found it didn't work. The area itself was lovely also, beautiful coastal walks and gorgeous beach. We ate out at the unicorn a couple of nights, the food was delicious. They also offer a number of really good cocktails - the staff are super friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. Overall the stay was really lovely and would definitely recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We will take a look at the coffee machine and this will be replaced. We are glad that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed the property and it's location. We very much hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

It has everything in the house that is needed. The toweĺs provided were lovely quality. The only fault was the rotary washing line was broke and in bits in the garden. This may have been broken by pevious guests leaving the owners no time to replace the offending item

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed both your stay and the property. The washing line has now been replaced. We do hope that you will return to Cornwall in the future and look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "Lovely modern house, spacious and clean."

Close to beach, a bit of a steep but paved scenic walk 10-15 mins. Better off being picked up in a car if carrying lots of beach gear on the way back. The only minor drawbacks the kitchen needed a new set of cooking pots and pans, they were minimal with no lids. The washing line in garden probably needs removing as broken. A parasol would be great as the garden very bright. We managed to get a reasonable off peak price. I notice prices for this property will increase going forward so people would expect everything to be provided. Overall very pleased. A comfy modern stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The owner has taken notice of the points raised and a new washing line has been arranged for the property. We are glad overall you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "We were very dissatisfied with two of the beds which squeaked very badly."

My daughter had to sleep on the settee for 3 nights and my granddaughter slept on the floor for 3 nights before the problem was solved. The toilet seat in the downstairs toilet was loose and the toilet seat in the en suite came off the first time it was used. We were not happy with the cleanliness of the cottage having had to wait till 6 pm to enter. There’s big spiders webs up on the staircase. The table and chairs weren’t cleaned properly with food on the edge of the table and the chairs hadn’t been cleaned at all. The entrance vestibule was filthy with dust blown up against the door and the threshold was splashed and dirty. The bin area hadn’t been cleaned. The picnic table was joke and needs replacing before it causes harm to someone. The garden wasn’t brilliant either. Really a week which equates to not a week in at 6pm and out by 9.30am for the “deep clean” ! The quilt in the master bedroom was ripped over a foot long rip.We are seeking some form of refund quite honestly because I think we had a bad deal. I won’t publish this because I’m sure this isn’t the same in every cottage. We have photographed some of these points if you want proof.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. As soon as we were made aware of the issues with the squeaking beds and the loose toilet seats, this was rectified with a visit from our maintenance man, who fixed both issues. Had you made us aware of any further issues during your stay, we would have been more than happy to try and rectify them for you. Property Owner

Very clean indeed, good facilities. 10 min walk downhill to beach area, 15min back due too the steep hill slowing you down. Everything was great with the exception of the TV in the house. It was about 15-20 years old, and was unable to connect our smart TV box. i would also recommend putting a simple BBQ in the garden for outdoor cooking. Please invest in a BBQ & newer TV to make it perfect.

Thank you for completing your feedback. We are glad that you had a lovely time and enjoyed the property and its location. A smart TV has now been installed and we would love to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The property was dirty on arrival."

The twin beds were only suitable for kids but we were a party of adults. For a 6 bed property there was only enough hot water for 3 consecutive showers. Sykes told us to stagger them during the day which is not what you want after a day on the beach. Our bedding and towels for wk 2 of our holiday were left outside the property a day late. The washing line was rusty. Not all bathrooms had soap. The hoover was blocked and wouldn’t work. I’ve never stayed in a holiday cottage where there were no cleaning materials. The bath and en-suite shower was blocked. I’ve been really disappointed with Sykes customer service. As you can see from the above we had a number of problems with our holiday cottage but the way Sykes handled my complaint during and since returning has been very disappointing. They will only claim compensation on your behalf from the property owner (which we did receive from the owner). But when Sykes make promises of calling you back or following things up but they don’t keep them. No one will call you back. It’s been an appalling service …. you end up going around in circles as they won’t take responsibility or do anything to rectify the complaint. In fact they have just told me to take legal action via CEDR- Centre for Dispute Resolution (who charge £600 for the privilege) as they’re not interested otherwise. I’ve even resorted to writing to their CEO but he’s just passed the letter back down to customer services and it’s back in the loop again of not taking my complaint seriously or taking action to resolve it. Clearly no one in Sykes is interested in treating customers fairly. There are definitely many better holiday companies out there who deserve the business and treat their customers properly. All I wanted was a sincere apology and a commitment to improve their processes so that complaints are documented properly and promises to follow things up were kept. I would therefore NOT recommend Sykes holidays.

Thank you for your feedback. The twin beds are standard 3’ beds, so suitable for both children and adults. The issues regarding the cleanliness of the property on your arrival were addressed as soon as we were made aware of them and a reclean of the property was carried out. A plumber attended the property regarding the hot water issues and our maintenance man dealt with the blocked bath and shower. The washing line has now been replaced. It may be due to safety reasons why cleaning products were not left in the property, but you are more than welcome to provide your own. Property Owner

Car park facilities are great, gets full really quickly especially at the current levels of visitors. No tacky shops its a great vibe place with good food and drinks to hang out and doing great job with Covid restrictions etc, friendly .House needs a hose pipe to wash wetsuits, taps is there no hose"" really vital to keep clean. Toilet seat in down stairs loo was loose and lid came off, was like that when we arrived even after it had been cleaned, some blinds did not work properly so some general upkeep needed, not enough wine glasses two were cracked was spout on coffee maker all needs sorting quite easy to do" .

  • "The house was very clean and tidy and there were enough pots, pans and other household items to make it a comfortable stay."

The house is situated high above Porthtowan but it only takes ten to fifteen minutes to walk down to the seafront. The path is not brilliant for part of the way but you can drive there in five minutes. There is a nice pub ten minutes walk away but part of the walk is along a road. The owners were kind enough to leave us some milk, mince pies and mulled wine on our arrival which was much appreciated (It was Christmas week). All in all we had a really nice week there.

  • "The house was is a fantastic location, however it was not 10 mins walk to the beach, it was more like 20 and not an easy walk for a family."

The house could do with a bit more of a thorough clean - there were cobwebs, and dust in the bathrooms and bedrooms. We found dirty oven trays in the oven and similar stained frying pans. All of the beds had winter quilts in summer, so we left windows open. However it is a residential area so were then woken by people leaving for work and early rising children. The downstairs bathroom had an unpleasant odour. The kitchen was not well equipped at all with basic items like a grater not provided, everyday was a challenge to cook a meal. There were many pots but all of a similar small/medium size so even boiling pasta for 4 was a challenge. No clothes dryer supplied internally however there is a washing machine and we don't live in LA so obviously do need a clothes dryer.

The owners regret that you didn't find the beach path which is a 10 minute walk.. The property generally has full marks for cleaning so they apologize if some elements fell below their usual standard. The owner will be supplying additional cooking utensils and a larger saucepan before Christmas. Clothes dryers can cause damp issues but the property does have a washing line and they will look at supplying a small wooden rail for emergency drying in wet weather. Property Owner

  • "House was really good, spacious, comfortable and clean."

One or two items need updating, the main one being the rotary clothes line which was frankly neither use nor ornament. Another useful item to have would be some oven gloves, not the sort of item you think to pack really. The scones, cream and jam were a nice touch and were very well received. Details of the local area also need updating. The Unicorn pub seems to have closed down as has the fish and chip shop. People also need to be made aware that mobile phone reception is appalling and the only way to get any reception in the house itself is to buy wifi from someone like BT Wifi, which is relatively expensive. We still had a really good holiday though and would definitely consider returning.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed a comfortable stay at Ocean Heights. We have now replaced the rotary clothes line and installed wifi at the property. Property Owner
