A comfortable, well furnished base for the local area, the terrace area is an added bonus when the weather's good and on-site parking is handy.

"Never have we been so disappointed at an arrival of a holiday destination before."
The property is so run down! It’s now no surprise there is no photos of the property on the listing. The staircases at the back are vile! The so called patio area was less than inviting 2 shabby wooden chairs and 2 broken plastic chairs. Unsafe and unusable. Decking needs a good scrub as was slippy once wet. The stairs were dangerous when wet, the spiral staircase is a joke when trying to get up with a staircase. Again this is dangerous especially for the children. The flat itself upon opening the door looked okay. A lot smaller than we imagined but liveable for a week. The bedrooms, well! The wardrobe was pathetic - 5 coat hangers for a family of 4, come on guys they are cheap enough to buy!!! The bedroom with the bunk beds was laughable. How you expect a child to sleep at the top is beyond me. We had to put our 4 year child up there which again isn’t ideal but our 10 year old would have hurt herself with the seriously low ceiling. The space was inadequate, the window is disgusting, looks like something has burrowed its way into the glass. The draws were from the war and smelt disgusting to think you expect us to put clothes in them! The bathroom was okay, the lack of hot water for more than 1 shower was an issue. The kitchen was dirty, the cooking utensils were dirty. The main light in the bedroom didn’t work. The Wi-Fi only works in the living room. The freezer was so full of ice the drawers didn’t open properly. No hairdryer.. I’m lost for words. All the windows are thick of cobwebs and just dirty.. nothing a window cleaner couldn’t fix, again no need for this dirty mess. Cobwebs and dead spiders in most corners of the room. I would invest in a better cleaner. We contacted the number provided for ‘help’ as there was no instructions left as to where to put the rubbish and also an issue with the heating as the children were cold at night… we’re still Waiting a reply. Unacceptable and down right disgusting customer service. Sort yourselves out!! The beach what a laugh, I’m guessing the pictures you advertise with are from google and the beach was unusable for the sheer amount of seaweed. We booked this place as our girls loved the beach but like I say totally unusable so we had to then quickly remake plans for the week. Total waste of time. The view is beautiful and the one thing you can’t fault however everything else lets it down massively and this property is most definitely not worth what we paid and I feel like we have been massively ripped off to the point I feel it needs reporting. I have stayed in lots of holiday properties and this is up there as one of the worst. The owners really need to ake serious notes from this. Like I say this will be taken further as £1000 for a week is an insult based on the above issues all which I have photo evidence and especially leaving broken items unsafe with children present.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues you raise, which are in stark contrast to many other positive reviews we’ve received for the property. As you’ll see to date, comments on the property have been complimentary. We’ve spoken to the owner who disputes your review and feels your comments are unfair and inaccurate. 18 photos of the property and surrounding area are provided. The staircase at the back is made from galvanised steel, as is the spiral staircase, both have a criss cross pattern on each step to prevent slipping. It is therefore not accurate to say they are dangerous. They have been checked by our Quality Assurance team and found to be perfectly safe. We will look to add a photo of the stairs to our gallery to allow guests to have a true reflection of the approach to the property. The broken chairs have been removed, following a very busy season wear and tear is inevitable. The wardrobe is a bespoke, handmade wardrobe, additional hangers have now been provided. The window in the bunk room has been replaced, the picture shows a true reflection of the distance from the top bunk to the ceiling. The solid wooden chest of drawers are painted in Farrow and Ball, to give a coastal look and do not smell, well suited in a seaside flat. Our housekeeper has confirmed that the kitchen and utensils were not dirty, cleanliness issues have not been reported in any previous feedback, the wifi has also been checked and is reported to work throughout the property. The seaweed is a natural part of the marine environment and does sometimes get washed up on the beach, depending on tides and weather. There had been a storm the week before your stay so there was some seaweed deposited on the beach. Unfortunately, this is out of the owners control, as is the temperature of the sea and the size of the waves. Most people love our little beach at Portmellon, which is gently shelving, making it very safe for swimming. The photo used is not from Google. The owner takes his letting of The Loft at Beach House very seriously and prides himself on giving good holiday experiences – this is reflected in the feedback we have received, and we have every confidence this will continue to be the case moving forward. "We never tired of the amazing sea view from the Loft."
Plenty of interesting places to visit, a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan is a must. We dined at Salamander in Mevagissey twice, great food and service at a reasonable price, make sure you book well in advance. The accommodation was clean and well equipped. It would be good to have a screen or curtain for the over bath shower, recycling information would have been useful. I’m sure we will return again..
We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the amazing view. The shower screen was damaged by a previous guest and has now been replaced, we are sorry this could not be completed in time for your stay Property Owner

To wake up to the sound of the sea is some experience.
We were surprised at how run down the building is, particularly at the rear of the premises. The first impression is not good.
Inside apart from the views was only average with kitchen units that did not fit and a very tired look all round.
The access via fire escape stairs could also be a problem.

Constructively - please could you get a universal mattress for your travel cot, a baking tray and an oven glove would be good. Also 4pm access is a little on the stingy side given 10am departure time.

Having off road parking is a great asset. Made loading and unloading luggage very easy. The property is right on the coastal path. A short walk along which could be found seals swimming and basking. The local pub was very friendly. Shame they are not doing food. Not a major problem as Mevagissey has plenty of great places to eat with across the board variety. Looking forward to my next visit.

Entrance up back stairs not up to same standard, old armchair appeared abandoned and space under steps obviously used for storage and area a
generally needs tidying up and painting. However would definitely consider returning, location good and access to coastal path for walks.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the views from The Loft at Beach House and found the property to be immaculate. "I feel awful sending this feedback after the stay but we felt that there was nothing that could be fixed at the time, the problems we found with The Loft were not things that could have been solved immediately, hence why we are leaving this review."
I would argue that the photos of the loft were not as accurate as they could have been, I think that they were taken when the property was brand new as there was significantly more wear and tear than pictured.
On arrival at the property, it was smaller than expected. I will say that I am glad that myself and my partner are small (5ft1 and 5ft7) as any taller, we would have had issues bumping heads frequently.
Luckily it was jus the 2 of us as the bunk beds barely fit into the room they are in! The top bunk is barely a foot away from the ceiling with slightly more room at head height.
The floors of the property were very uneven, every time we moved from the bedroom to the front room we slipped! This also impacted the seating at the dining table as it was on a slope so we would have to find our seats very carefully to avoid falling!
In general, the property was not overly clean. Due to the pandemic, I carry my own cleaning products to wipe over high touch points just to make myself feel more comfortable. I am glad that I did as the bedside tables, window sills and table had numerous marks etc that simply wiped away, showing me that they had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. I spent the whole time in slippers/flip flops as the floor felt gritty. There was a hoover in the cupboard but I don't expect to come on holiday and clean, so the footwear was the solution to this problem for me. There were black marks all around the walls, again adding to the feeling of unclean.
This is not the fault of the property owners, however, there were lots of little black bugs all over the property. They collected in the corners of the property and were found across the furniture, resulting in a feeling of crawling whenever we were sat on the sofa.
The garden area is a couple of chairs on the staircase of the property. I booked this on the proviso of having a garden for bbq's etc, luckily the weather meant that this wasn't possible, as we wouldn't have been able to use the area for that purpose.
The location was perfect. It was a 15 minute walk into the main town of Mevagissey, albeit uphill in both directions! There is a pub less than 5 minutes away, we didn't use this as it was always busy. I recommend booking restaurants in advance as most places were fully booked for the entirety of our stay, luckily, we had a few places already booked!
Again, I apologise for not bringing these points up at the time but the issues that could be easily solved, I resolved on my own, any other issues could not be fixed quickly.
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your feedback, we are in full agreement the location is incredibly special with some amazing views and we hope you enjoyed waking up to them each morning! We are very sorry though to hear you felt The Loft wasn’t as clean as it could be and we do wish you had let us know at the time so we could have helped. We agree that it’s more important than ever at this moment in time to ensure cleanliness levels are high and happily, as you will see from the many other reviews, cleanliness is an element specifically praised. Following receipt of your comments I can confirm we’ve thoroughly checked upon the property and are fully satisfied the high standards we set are being met. We hope that overall you enjoyed your stay in Cornwall and that it won’t be long until your next visit to our beautiful county. Property Owner

"Wonderful holiday in a lovely property with the best of views."
However I cannot recommend it to any one because of the immense increase in price for the same week next year !! We holiday in the UK every year - we won't be returning to this property as the cost has increased by about 40% for the same week next year. We will not pay over £1000 for a tiny loft apartment no matter how clean and good the view.

"The accommodation itself was fine, very clean and everything that we needed."
However the the outside yard area was a real mess, complete with an old armchair! I realise this is a shared space but our first impression wasn’t great, also this is supposed to be where we parked but as the access was a bit tight we were told to leave our car on the front paved area. Also the directions to find The Loft are completely wrong, we had to ring to find out exactly where it was!
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that the directions were not accurate, unfortunately the Property Manager did not have your correct mobile number to send you the detailed directions. We have now amended the information that we send out to guests before travel. With regard to the area at the rear of the property, some of this has been created by recent storms and easterly winds which have deposited sand and sea debris in this area. This is being cleared up. As this is a shared area, we have contacted one of the neighbours who will tidy up the items which he had put outside. "This property is not 1st floor as described, but 2nd floor."
Access from 1st to 2nd floor is via a narrow spiral staircase.
The property directions provided were totally inaccurate. Without the help of the caretaker it would be impossible to find.
The area at the rear of the property resembles a rubbish dump. A very scruffy uncared for appearance.
The property itself however is excellent. Very clean, well cared for, fantastic location and amazing views. The caretaker takes great pride in looking after both property and guests and is very helpful.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We must apologise for the issues that you have highlighted. As you have pointed out, The Loft is on the second floor (accessed by an external spiral staircase as mentioned, which is 3'6" wide). We have now amended the directions for future guests. "Fantastic second stay for us, we live the location for local amenities and of course the beach."
Lovely welcome pack thank you so much.
Great to catch up with Carole & Alma.
It is very clear that Carole works incredibly hard to keep the house clean and tidy (especially during covid 19 outbreak).
My only concern was the bunk beds, this was the first year my daughter would sleep in a bed not a travel cot, at first she said she wanted to sleep on the top bunk- however after sitting up and banging her head on the ceiling several times, reluctantly slept in the bottom bunk. As the room is only small perhaps consider just 1 bed instead of the bunks?
Other than that the beach house is great and we had a great holiday.

The apartment was extremely clean, comfortably warm and offered a panoramic view of the harbour. The local pub The Rising Sun was hospitable, we watched the Rugby World Cup final early on Saturday morning there and cried into our beers along with the locals.
Situated a few miles from St Austell Railway Station where you can park your car for the day for £2.30 making it is possible to tour southern Cornwall by train. We've never had a welcome pack like the one waiting for us here, it was amazing. The location is perfect, lovely sandy beach just across the road and only a 20 minute walk into Mevagissey. The property is accessed via an external staircase to the first floor, which has an outside seating area, and then another external spiral staircase up to the apartment on the second floor. The bunk room is accessed from the master bedroom. We didn’t use this room and our only query would be whether an adult could actually get up to use the top bunk due to the low height of the ceiling over it.
