  • "Booked for my family and they loved the place."

  • "House was beautiful - clean, well-equipped, quiet, lots of space."

Family really appreciated the hot tub, pool table and the lovely beach, which is just a few minutes walk away. Children enjoyed popping to the shop, which was close enough to be safe for them to go alone. We were blessed with some good weather and the south facing garden gets the full sun. A garden parasol would have been good, therefore, as there’s no shade in the afternoon. The grass hadn’t been cut, otherwise the maintenance was excellent. Only given a 9 because of the overall price.

  • "This house is bigger than you think and was ample room for 6 adults with a toddler."

The 2 doors to the hall and the room to the open plan kitchen/lounge means you do not need a baby gate. The weather was a bit indifferent but the hot tub and pool table made it an enjoyable family holiday. It is close to the beach if you want to go to swim with a small shop at the end of the road for milk, bread or pasties. A couple of improvements could be black out blinds for the bedrooms and cutting the grass, which perhaps could not be achieved due to weather.

  • "We had a lovely 2 weeks at this property."

All previous issues raised by previous visitors had been addressed by the owner, the new garden furniture made a lot of difference. Whilst Pra is lovely there aren't many places to eat out in the evening although Portleven is only 10 minutes up the road where there are plenty of options The pool table and hot tub were popular with the whole family.

  • "Lovely house in a great area, it’s a beautiful part of the world!"

Lovely beach nearby. Beds and pillows were comfy, sofa was comfortable but small for 6 people, although with the pool table you couldn’t really get a bigger sofa in. There is a hairdryer, iron, ironing board and clothes airer which weren’t listed. We really enjoyed using the hot tub and pool table. As a previous reviewer said, the hot tub is emptied and cleaned at the end of your stay so it’s clean for the next guests. They also came out one lunchtime during the week for maintenance. Although we weren’t aware they were coming so had only just got out of it but it’s good to know it’s maintained well. We realised the microwave was in the top oven thanks to previous reviews, but with no instructions we had to figure it out. I can see why others haven’t realised it’s there. The TV doesn’t have any terrestrial TV and only has access to streaming services so you need to have your own accounts to use it. (Martin you left your YouTube logged in, we signed you out!) Cleanliness was mostly ok, although when we arrived we found there was sticky drink that had been spilt on the sofa arm and floor which we cleaned up. The toothbrush pots in the bathrooms were used and still dirty. The BBQ still hasn’t been cleaned (as per previous review) we didn’t use it. Some cutlery and utensils had dried food stuck to them. The bathroom locks are very stiff, which has been mentioned in previous reviews but clearly nothing has been done yet to fix this. When we first arrived the house was really hot (the thermostats showed it was 26 - 28° in most of the rooms). We opened all the windows but couldn’t find a key for the patio door at the front of the house. We also had an issue with the door to the utility room, it actually fell off the hinges when we opened it, fortunately not onto one of the kids. We later found out it was newly replaced, but obviously not installed properly. There was no contact number in the information folder so we tried to contact the number in the booking email, but there was no answer. We did leave an answerphone message but didn’t hear anything. We tried periodically over the weekend and finally got hold of someone on Tuesday (we arrived on Saturday). Apparently the office is shut at weekends and bank holidays but they didn’t actually bother to contact us in response to the answerphone message when they were there. According to them, the key to the patio door has been lost and the management company made no offer to replace it for the owner, and the only thing they said about the utility room door was ‘it was ok when we left it’. Not helpful at all. No offer to come and fix it. Later during our stay we realised there is a leak from the ensuite shower which is above the front door and dripping through the ceiling. However, again we were unable to contact anyone to report it. I dread to think what would happen if there was an emergency because the management company are useless. Sykes Cottages and the house owners really need to address this. There is no recycling bin at the property so all rubbish has to go in the main bin, although we chatted to a neighbour who said there should be a recycling bin and we did see a recycling truck drive passed so no idea why this is not available.

  • "Really lovely property with everything you need supplied."

Hot tub is perfect after a day out and so relaxing. Great to see the spa maintenance team doing a complete valet when we were leaving so the tub is emptied, cleaned and refilled ready for the new arrivals. Did see on previous review the tub was not ready and now know that it takes a little while to get to temperature after the valet. Be patient and it will be up to temperature and you know it has been fully cleaned and sanitized for you. Pool table is a great extra to play when you are in the property. Somebody did say they could not find the microwave but it is a setting in the top oven so you may need to google the oven settings to get the correct one. If I had any negatives it would be the TV is internet only so you need subscriptions to watch any normal TV but it did not spoil our brilliant stay.

  • "Lovely, all mod cons house in a great position."

Could do with some instructions on the appliances though, which is why a previous guest did not realise there is a built in microwave. No baking trays for the oven or big bin bags. Only 4 glass tumblers too. The outdoor furniture consisted of one small swing seat so nowhere for us all to sit and enjoy the fabulous weather in the garden. Having said that we had a great week. For info, all the locks are very stiff on all the doors and the garden needs attention, tall grass full of weeds.

  • "We had a fabulous stay at Sandy Cove."

The accommodation was beautifully presented and well equipped for our family (4 adults, 2 children under 12). The house was furnished to a high standard, with comfortable beds and the added bonus of a pool table and hot tub for evening entertainment. The fully equipped kitchen is great for anyone wanting to go self-catered. The property is within walking distance of the beach and a couple of bars/cafes. Parking for two family sized cars. Would wholly recommend this property!

About the location

PRAA SANDS

Marazion 4.5 miles ; Helston 6 miles ; Porthleven 5 miles

The village of Praa Sands sits on the south coast in between Helston and Marazion. Praa Sands is known for its mile-long sandy beach and excellent surfing conditions. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the beach – the perfect spot for lunch with a view or sunset drinks. Praa Sands is also home to a Golf and Country Club, from where the most wonderful sea vista can be enjoyed whilst you play. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle, the tower of which dates back to the 16th century. It is said that Pengersick is haunted, and that the ghost of a monk has been seen wandering the grounds! The house at Pengersick is rumoured to be the birth place of John Carter, the self styled King of Prussia and a tunnel which leads from the house to the beach was apparently once used by smugglers. There are supermarkets and other retail stores in Penzance (8 miles) and Helston (6 miles).
