  • "On arrival there were numerous dead flies all over the bedrooms and main bathroom which meant we had to hoover and mop as soon as we arrived."

Strange drain smell in the main bedroom. Other than that, everything was perfect! Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "We had a lovely time."

The accommodation was nicely decorated and comfortable, Everything you needed to to have a relaxing break, The key safe was a little hard to get into, it took about 15 minutes to open it. Just one bad point: the hand basin tap did not work in one of the onsuits. Overall I would stay there again and recommend it to friends and family.

  • "Very good! We had an excellent week at Wheal Grey."

Stunning looking rental in a VERY convenient location. Very clean and equipped. The whole family were more than impressed! Only 15 mins to St Ives, Penzance, Helston and only 10 mins to St Michael's Mount. Beach is 5 mins by car but it's also a pleasant walk. We wish we had booked 2 weeks!

  • "We had a lovely couple of weeks at Wheal Grey, the property was overall very nice, comfy beds and lots of space, and outside was very peaceful, we even saw a deer on our first day."

Unfortunately we did have to hoover it ourselves on our first evening, so would assume the floors werent mopped either. Just a couple of things that could have enhanced our stay - the plates in the cupboards are too large for the slimline dishwasher. If you load plates all the way along the bottom, the drainer for the top tray doesn't have space to spin round which took us a few days to realise why things weren't being washed properly. In the end we gave up and handwashed our items. The washing machine cupboard was not that clean so a laundry basket to get your clean washing into would have been handy and a decent airer, the one in the property was falling apart and very unstable. As a family of 4 staying for 2 weeks we had to do a few loads which we found tricky to get dry. Also, the fridge didn't seem to seal very well and the alarm went off quite often as the door wasn't quite shut properly. Despite these points, which will hopefully be helpful for future guests, we would definitely stay here again as we had a lovely time.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry that you encountered some cleanliness issues. Had we been made aware of these issues during your stay we would have done our very best to get them rectified for you. We have now changed our housekeeping supplier, since your stay at the property. We do hope to be able to welcome you back, hopefully in the not too distant future. Property Owner

  • "Really lovely place to stay, lovely private garden and great facilities, slightly let down a little by the cleaning in the kitchen, with dried food on some of the utensils, not that we used them but it was a bit unsightly."

We would be more than happy to stay here again though, will see what the prices are for 2023 and we may well be back.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that had an enjoyable stay. We are sorry to hear about the cleaning issues you encountered, we have changed our housekeeping supplier since your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back again, hopefully in 2023. • "We loved the property, much bigger than it looked in the photos, more equipment in the kitchen than I have at home and lovely clean, modern decor."

It was a great base from which to explore this part of Cornwall and really did feel like a treat to stay in this little slice of history.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Wheal Grey very much."

] ] Slight downfall in the 2 double bedroom showers, drains were very slow draining away/partially blocked! This resulted in us using the family bathroom for showers. This caused a slight odor within the property.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, had you contacted us during your stay we would have sent our housekeeper to rectify these issues immediately. Please be assured that we will be following this up Property Owner

  • "Well appointed, spacious and comfortable holiday cottage."

A lot of care and thought has obviously been put into restoring this building and furnishing it to a high standard. Really handy location, only a few minutes drive from numerous beaches and coves and less than 30 mins drive to St Ives, Penzance, Porthleven, Lizard and Penwith Peninsulas etc. Nice garden with multiple seating areas and plenty of parking space.

  • "The cottage was beautiful, well equipped with comfortable beds."

The bathrooms were cleaned well but the rest of the barn less so. Summer weight duvets would be an advantage. Considering we were not too far from the Helston to Penzance road it was lovely and quiet. Unfortunately just before we arrived the main oven had failed and the owners were in the process of replacing it.

  • "Beautiful property in a great location to explore Cornwall."

The fittings of the property were good quality the only thing that let it down was the kitchen fitting. Dishwasher was not fixed in place, the integrated fridge freezer doors were not fitted to the fridge freezer. Otherwise the property was lovely and would stay here again if we came to the area again.

. I only had one issue the double beds.. The base of the bed's squeak quite a bit and it kept waking me up.. I do think they need better bases for the mattresses.. And may be a bigger TV Apart from that the cottage is very very nice indeed.. Thanks

  • "We had no hot water for 24 hours on the Tuesday."

One of our party left a day early because of a leaking roof which although dealt with did keep them up the previous night and spoilt the holiday as they didn't want to stay. A big emphaisis was put on Covid cleaning with STRICT times for check in and check out so improved cleaning could take place but this didn't appear to have been adhered to. On arrival we found four pairs of socks in a drawer and on departure when checking under the beds found a letter dated 2018 and the four outside bins had not been emptied. To be honest we are disappointed that no-one has really been in touch to offer apologies or some form of compensation and would like someone to contact us.

  • "What a lovely cottage."

Plenty of light and space and very comfortable. There's so much to do in a very short driving range. NT membership is very handy round here as well. Great coffee, roasted by Origin in Porthleven but available in many outlets! Park and walk into Porthleven save yourself any hassle parking. Love the wood fired pizza at the Deli there. Great sandy beaches and stunning coastal walks. ThiS part of Cornwall is one place to which, like a classic book, it is worth returning time and again.

I'd highly recommend you all visiting Wheal Grey. Central for our destinations in West Cornwall - St Ives, Lands End, Falmouth etc. So High-Spec - a delight. Close to Praa Sands for a sunny day, Penzance, Falmouth, The Lizard etc. Lazy evenings watching the sun go down, in the middle of a World Heritage Site - amazing!! The call of Buzzards overhead and with a family of rabbits close-by. A truly amazing place, with a Cornish Cream Tea awaiting us on arrival!!! Many thanks for everything and for preserving British heritage. Must come back sometime soon. Cheers!!!

About the location

PRAA SANDS

Marazion 4.5 miles ; Helston 6 miles ; Porthleven 5 miles

The village of Praa Sands sits on the south coast in between Helston and Marazion. Praa Sands is known for its mile-long sandy beach and excellent surfing conditions. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the beach – the perfect spot for lunch with a view or sunset drinks. Praa Sands is also home to a Golf and Country Club, from where the most wonderful sea vista can be enjoyed whilst you play. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle, the tower of which dates back to the 16th century. It is said that Pengersick is haunted, and that the ghost of a monk has been seen wandering the grounds! The house at Pengersick is rumoured to be the birth place of John Carter, the self styled King of Prussia and a tunnel which leads from the house to the beach was apparently once used by smugglers. There are supermarkets and other retail stores in Penzance (8 miles) and Helston (6 miles).
