It was only short 40 metre walk from the car parked on the roadway below. Nice and clean. Well equipped kitchen and a cozy bedroom. A nice welcome in the form of a cream tea and bottle of wine All in all a nice cottage to stay in.

  • "Little Hamlin is absolutely lovely and one of the best holiday cottages we've stayed in."

It was beautifully furnished and had everything we required for our stay. There is a short walk up a track to reach the cottage and then a few steps up to the front door. The lounge is on the first floor, with two doors leading off, one to the bathroom and the other down a few steps to the bedroom. The balcony, which is accessed via a door from the bedroom, is a wonderful sun trap in the late afternoon/early evening and perfect for relaxing with a cold drink while recapping on our day. All rooms are spacious and very comfortable. This is a gem of a holiday home and we will definitely return. The cottage is located in a small village, with a pub opposite the track. The staff and locals were really friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent. A visit to the establishment is a must, and I have to confess we popped in every day to sample their excellent cider. We will certainly be recommending this holiday cottage to our friends and family.

Thank you so much for your kind words Kamla. I am very grateful that you have shared your thoughts and I certainly look forward to welcoming you back sometime. Property Owner

The bottle of wine and cream tea left by the owner was a very kind gesture and much appreciated after a long drive. The Manor House pub opposite was very friendly and served lovely meals. Interesting and beautiful local walks were, literally, available right from the door. The owner lives next door and was always available but never intrusive. Highly recommended.

Also a semi steep unmade path up to the property. But once you arrive at the property you will not be disappointed. Every little touch is available, even down to salty and pepper! On the whole we had a lovely relaxing few nights away, in a very quiet place. A lovely place to use as a base for holidays. The bottle of wine and the cream tea were a lovely surprise on our arrival.

Great pub in village and cottage itself is comfortable and quiet. We had a wonderful welcome with scones and clotted cream thoughtfully left for us. Cottage is on a small footpath so parking on road close by, but had no problems finding a space each day. We definitely would return and loved our week in this beautiful area as there was so much to see and do.

The owner had even put in a small Christmas tree and left a bottle of wine and a cream tea. However the central heating was controlled by the owner and although there was a very nice electric fire in the sitting room, the kitchen and bathroom were cold in the middle of the day. The bedroom and bathroom have sloping ceilings too which is difficult if you are tall as we are.

  • "The cottage was very comfortable and spotless."

The owner Deborah had left a generous welcome pack and was on hand when I arrived. I'd seen details of the difficulties in parking in several reviews, but this was particularly bad when residents and visitors to the pub opposite were already parked on the return from a day out. I could see from the listing that the access path was unmade, but was not expecting it to be so steep and dangerous with loose shale and rocks. This was a big problem when unloading and loading several items of luggage, and when coming and going each day. The listing should be clear that this property may not be suitable for the elderly and people with mobility problems

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you found Little Hamlin to be comfortable. We do our best to ensure that the listings and photos for each property are clearly depicted and described. We have adjusted the text to provide further clarity in this case. We understand that you arrived in bad weather following a storm, so some debris may have been washed down the lane as a result. The Owner does sweep and regularly strim the lane to ensure it is in good order for incoming guests. Property Owner

Very clean and tidy. The owner is very kind and helpful, on a couple of occasions when returning after dark she left her outside light on until we got back so we could see our way back to the property! The only thing to be aware of is that it is situated on a fairly steep hill so parking on the road at times can be tricky if there are a lot of cars about, although this only happened once or twice!

The added touches of small vases of flowers, the bottle of wine and cream tea was lovely. The only problem we did have was with the lack of hot water, took a very long time to get even warm water from the taps and was very slow running - this is explained in the information pack in the cottage. Owner very nice and welcoming and would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your kind comments. I am really pleased you would recommend Little Hamlin to others. I am sorry you experienced a problem with the hot water. There was an airlock in the hot water system which I didn't realise about until you had gone. Thank goodness the shower is electric and independent of the hot water system. About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
