  • "No mention of bathroom and toilet downstairs which is a necessity for a lot of people especially during night."

We had to cut our stay short due to this and when we made contact with Sykes the response was that it was our fault as we should have asked about this, however as a toilet/bathroom upstairs is the norm why should we have needed to contact Sykes. This should have been in info on website. Even young couple staying next door we’re not happy as their cottage was same. I only asked that it should be added to website info. Tv couldv’e been bigger.

I was so very upset to read this feedback. Due to the age(223years) and size of the cottage the bathroom is downstairs wich is not at all unusual. The property had been redecorated throughout in March so therefore was spotless. The cottage is thoughouly cleaned and sanatised before guests arrive. I will ensure that the description is updated so as guests with mobility issues are aware before booking as this may help with clarity in the future. Thank you Property Owner

We loved the stone floors and the oak beams. The bedroom was very comfortable. Only a short drive away from Port Issac and Tintagel. Even though, during the week of our stay, the weather was overcast, we were quite happy to stay in and read some of the wonderful selection of books that were in the cottage.

We had a great stay at this beautiful cottage, a fabulous place to take a furry baby as the garden is very secure, with all the comforts of home and a great base for exploring the North of Cornwall

  • "This beautiful holiday cottage is an absolute gem, me and my dog absolutely loved our stay at Trelengel."

It has all you possibly need, the local spa shop is just down the road for fire wood and the convenience of location to Tintagel is an easy 10 minute drive. It is very quaint, you do have to drive to different spots, as its a hilly location and you do have to watch your head, I'm 5'6 and did forget to duck on occasions. But the cosiness and finishing touches are perfect! Plus the owners are wonderful and super helpful. Really great stay.x.x.x.

  • "A charming cottage with some quirky features and lovely decorative touches."

I found the TV signal very poor during my stay and wonder if it needs looking at. Fortunately it was unusually mild for the end of October, but an initial supply of logs wasn't left for the woodburner. I also found it odd that the owner controls the heating temperature from afar! The very small bath/shower is a downside to the facilities especially after returning from a long day of walking when you just need to soak aching muscles!

  • "Lovely cottage."

Delabole is a lovely little village and a great base to travel from. The cottage is as the description says. It does have low roofs, the stairs do take a bit of getting used too and the hand-held shower over the bath can be a bit difficult to use if you are a tall person, and the road outside is busy. However, we were very happy and loved the quirkiness of the cottage. The small garden at the back was lovely and a little hot-spot. Trebarwith Bay is stunning and was one of our favourites. The local pub 'The Bettle & Chisel' was delightful, food was great and the staff were very warm, friendly and welcoming.

  • "Hi the cottage in this little village was lovely, the only thing we found a little upsetting was the road outside cars being driven at 40/50 some plus."

As we step out with our two small dogs they were terrified as the pavement was very narrow.

  • "Lovely cottage in Delabole, it is near the road but it did state that, we just forgot what that is like but it was not too bad at all."

Good location being near to lots of extremely nice places to visit, not to mention wonderful beaches. Nice field over the back accessible via public footpaths for nice dog walks. Good local amenities, pub, shop, Fish and Chip shop and a lovely little garage selling useful bits and pieces too. One of our best holidays, the cottage was absolutrely great, home from home.

  • "The cottage is very quirky and very equipped."

Very clean and tidy. Lovely small back garden. The thing that we were very disappointed with was the fact that even though you described the bath as small and hand held shower you do not actually state that you cannot stand up in the bath and use the shower if you are over 5ft! the staircase is above the bath/shower and therefore you cannot stand up as there is a slant in the ceiling. My husband is 6ft 2in and I am 5ft 8in and neither of us could stand up to shower even holding the shower attachment. My husband suffers with severe back problems and therefore for the whole duration of the week couldn't shower and neither of us could use the bath as it was too small. Also there is a sign on the kitchen side of the doorway leading into the lounge saying "Mind your Head" but there should also be one from the lounge to the kitchen as 3 times my husband hit his head and unfortunately the 3rd time he gashed it open. As I say, if you are not very tall the cottage is absolutely ideal as other than the bathroom issue we loved the rest of the cottage and couldn't fault it and it was in an ideal location for travelling round.

  • "Great location for exploring Cornwall."

The cottage was beautifully furnished and decorated and had everything we needed. The walled garden was also perfect for our two dogs. The only downside was the noisy main road and the small bathroom that had a tiny bath and no shower, which when you are over six feet tall wasn't ideal!

Everything you need and more; comfy bed, secure garden for the dogs, and good base. Really warm and cozy and that was without the woodburner, as we had fabulous weather in May. Trebarwith sands is a must - some of the roads to here though are single lane and an “ interesting “ drive!!! Local pub also does good food. Highly recommend and credit to owners.

The property

In a superb location for touring the dramatic north Cornish coastline, this cosy old cottage is set in the historic village of Delabole, approximately one mile inland from the coast and only five miles from Port Isaac.

You will feel at home the moment you enter this delightful cottage, full of character with wooden beams, slate floors and a woodburner for those cooler evenings.

As you go through the porch into the sitting room, the comfy sofa and a singe chair are both welcoming after a busy day.

There is also a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area which leads out into the garden, where you will find a lawned garden and a patio with seating; a real suntrap and perfect for alfresco dining.

Upstairs is where you will find the lovely bedroom with an adjoining dressing room, and just a few yards up the road from the cottage is a private parking space together with a lockable shed, ideal for storing bikes or surfboards.

The village of Delabole lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which enjoys the same status and protection as a national park.

You may well come across Martin Clunes in the village, for whilst he made Port Isaac famous with his portrayal of Doc Martin in the popular TV series, he admits to preferring to stay in Delabole when filming and says he has never seen such a close-knit community.

Directly opposite the cottage are the Ferndale coarse fishing lakes, a thriving fishery where you can fish or settle down to a picnic in beautiful surroundings.

There are many walking opportunities close by and one definitely worth taking is to the disused airfield at Treligga Downs, which offers amazing views up and down the coast.

The surfing beach at Tregardock is near here and well worth seeing, while the cove at Backways and the ever popular Trebarwith Strand are also close by.

Venturing both east and west along this exhilarating coastline gives you the opportunity to visit so many of the quaint villages and secluded coves which make this area of the county so popular.

With so much to do and see, Trelengel is an ideal base for a holiday at any time of year.

About the location

DELABOLE

Tintagel 3.5 miles; Camelford 5 miles; Port Isaac 6 miles.

At one time the producer of the world’s best quality building and ornamental slate, this now sleepy village is just 2.5 miles from the high cliffs and dramatic scenery of the north Cornish coastline. Perfectly placed for walking the South West coastal path, exploring the high places of nearby Bodmin Moor, or for lazing on the beach at nearby Trebarwith Strand, it’s a well-placed holiday base. The peaceful harbour village of Port Isaac and the town of Tintagel, with its tourist attractions and King Arthur’s legendary castle, are both a short drive, while the stunning surfing beach at Polzeath is a mere nine miles away. Slaughtersbridge, where King Arthur reputedly fought his last battle, is five minutes away and a drive north along the coast takes in the beautiful cove at Crackington Haven. An area away from the main tourist crowds, but very central to a vast array of places and activities. Delabole Quarry itself is just down the road and is an interesting tourist attraction with stunning views. It is the gateway to great countryside walks.
