  • "Having read previous reviews we were a little bit apprehensive about the cleanliness of the cottage but on arrival it was clean and tidy although there were cobwebs up in the highest part of the ceiling."

The cottage was warm and comfortable and we had a lovely stay. Good base for local attractions and beaches at Rock. Quiet village location.

  • "The property lets itself down on cleanliness, with numerous areas with cobwebs present, mainly at height untouched for a length of time."

No phone signal in the property, which should be pointed out on the listing, you have to make your way to the top of the garden. Wifi was down until the very last day of our stay, the initial will to resolve was poor, numerous messages to the owner eventually saw action, based on lack of advertised services in the property it would be nice for the owner to appreciate the inconvenience and issue a part refund, without having to raise the issue here, hopefully now Sykes will read the feedback and progress. Shame this could and should be a nice property.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The cleanliness issues have since been addressed. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a quiet hamlet."

Had a great week there exploring an area of Cornwall never visited before having always stayed in the Newquay area. Pro’s: Lovely & very modern well set out cottage with comfy beds. Has everything you need whilst there. However a few extra cleaning cloths would help as one dish sponge supplied so one for cleaning bathroom would help. I’m always wary in dog friendly accommodation even though I brought my own dogs but there was no dog smell which was great. Outside shower was a god send for showering dogs after beach. Cons: Having read previous reviews re, cleanliness I was a little worried. On arrival I was very disappointed that despite previous bad reviews that lessons hadn’t been learnt as it was very dirty & looked like it had been a long time since had a deep clean. It had received a surface clean only. The high windows above the patio doors were full of cobwebs complete with a spider. The skirting was dirty & behind the bed and bedside units even more so. Down the side of the sofa were the Wi-Fi unit was kept was disgusting, full of dust bunny’s and dead bugs. The upstairs loo extractor rained down clouds of dust & the occasional dust bunny rolled out from under the sofa. The velum windows were full of cobwebs inside and dirty outside. There was dirty cushion covers on sofas & a stained rug. Thick layer of dust on extractor hood and lamps. The remote controls were a petri dish for bacteria. You go on holiday to get away from housework & only expect to have to clean up after yourself. There was very limited Wi-Fi & only managed to get Netflix on once for 20 minutes but to be honest this did not bother us as it was nice to have the break from it all & we only used as a base for sleeping. I was a bit apprehensive about the garden not being enclosed with my 2 dogs but due to set up of the patio doors it was easy to keep an eye on them, plus due to location there was no passing traffic. We stayed there during a very hot week & the heat inside was unbearable, blinds at the doors and on the high windows would really help, we closed the curtains whilst out to cool the lounge down but the light & heat from the high windows above the patio doors was unbearable. A ceiling fan would be a great addition also. Would I stay here again? Yes but only if I could be guaranteed a cleaner cottage. You need to find a better cleaning company as that was the only downside which was a shame. I did try to contact the owner re, the cleanliness whilst there but as the phone signal is very poor I could not get a connection. Yes I could have tried whilst out & about where signal was better but I didn’t & that’s on me.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Apologies for the cleanliness issues that you experienced which have since been raised with our cleaners, as a result we will be replacing our original cleaning team who will be paying closer attention to these details during changeovers. We have taken all your comments on board and hope to see you back with us. Property Owner

  • "We are just back from a wonderful weekend at your property."

The house is modern, beautifully presented and well equipped. (scissors would be a good addition though). The area is perfect for exploring the local beaches and coastal walks. We were a party of 4 with a dog. It would have been good to have known that dogs were not allowed on furniture or into bedrooms before our visit rather than ready this in the welcome pack. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "Lovely cottage in a quiet hamlet near to beach’s, walks and areas of interest/beauty."

Cottage was well equipped and the shower outside is a great touch for surfers! (And dogs). The wifi wasn’t working when we arrived, and took a while for us to find/reboot the system. This should’ve been done before we arrived. The cottage had a surface clean but could do with a deep clean as there was a lot of dust. There was even a smily face drawn onto one of the lamps from the previous people staying! The locks on both sliding doors are incredibly difficult to lock, it took us so long we ended up leaving them locked which made the cottage very warm. I would say these need urgent attention. All in all, a very lovely cottage, but for the high price would expect a better clean and also for basic things to work properly.

Thank you for your feedback and the points you have raised. Apologies for the cleanliness issues, we have since changed our cleaning team. Thank you for bringing the sliding door locks to our attention, this has since been investigated. Property Owner

  • "This was our first visit to Cornwall (definitely not the last)."

The cottage was very clean and situated in a beautiful area with easy access to both Rock and Port Issac within 10/15 minutes. The warm outdoor shower was a godsend for hosing down the dogs after a day at the beach. Easily the most beautiful and well equipped dog friendly cottage we’ve ever come across! The neighbours were lovely too! Thank you.

  • "I was worried after the recent feedback about the house being dirty etc."

I’m pleased to say it was very clean and had crisp white clean linen. It’s a lovely mixture of modern and old, lovely quiet spot, a great place to relax. I liked the outside shower, it was convenient to clean off sand from wetsuits etc and leave out to dry. The only thing I should I have looked into more is the garden isn’t enclosed - that was my fault not checking

  • "Property was filthy on arrival despite having been assured by Sykes it would be cleaned to a satisfactory standard."

Dust, dog urine, dirty plasters under the furniture and sofa cushions. filthy mattresses, dirty toilets, a bucket of cigarette ends in the garden and the previous guests refuse not to mention the piles of dog poo in the garden…the list goes on. Less than adequate compensation offered, no apology from owner or explanation for the poor service. Post stay service from Sykes team equally abysmal.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear of the cleanliness issues you experienced during your stay. We can confirm that we have since raised these issues with the cleaning team and all is in hand. The plans are now underway to remove the carpets from the ground floor and replace them, along with a few other upgrades to the property. Regarding the compensation, we have offered this in good faith. Property Owner

  • "Left a message in the visitors book and text the caretaker about the areas that needed improving."

The bin and garbage left when we arrived outside is unacceptable. The tv's upstairs don't work, need retuning. The kitchen tap drips. 2 large dog wee stains on the lounge carpet. The garden was tiny and really poor - no flowers etc. Very small property inside and out for 5 people! Very overpriced at two thousand for a week - ridiculous. There is no information about local walks, or proper detail for places to eat out. The fridge has 3 trays so can't get much in there for 5 people. The beds are very comfortable though and its a very quiet location!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry you never responded to the voice message we left you to help with the TV. We do have a map on the wall with all the local walks etc on also in the draw are leaflets with local information etc on. We will look into the matter of the bins and drippings taps . Thank you to bring this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house but cobwebs in most rooms which we vacuumed away ourselves (where accessible)."

Bizarrely one of my son’s pillows was covered in black hairs - can only assume a pet had been in. Double mattress cover over a king size bed made it a little uncomfortable (a very minor issue - but it’s feedback). Whilst the third bed was a double, nowhere states that it’s a bunk bed - again, not a major issue as we had a 15 year old who was ok with it. Still a lovely place and a great location - please take this as constructive feedback. If I was the owner, I would welcome the honest feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The cleanliness issues have since been raised with our cleaners. The property will soon be going through an end of season re-fresh, and all issues will be addressed. The bunk bed has been removed, replaced by a double bed in the third bedroom. We are pleased you found Kelmscot, to be a lovely place and we look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "Stayed at the beginning of July and had a lovely holiday."

Was a little concerned about the previous reviews regarding the cleanliness of the property, however after contacting Sykes cottages who then contacted the owner it was deep cleaned before our arrival. The cottage is lovely and well equipped, the beds are really comfortable. Just one point though, my son is over 6ft and had to stoop around the kitchen due to the beams and in the upper bedroom and cloakroom but as we didn’t spend much time there and were out all day it was bearable.

  • "Maintenance of the property seems at a minimum."

Property has dirty, as we had a baby with us we spent the first 2 hours trying to clean the cottage! Even though listed you accepted dogs, thick amount of long dog hairs was all over the sofas in the front room and in the carpets. Mould within the main bathroom shower. Kitchen cupboards have spices that went out of date if 2019! Plus mentioned there was a pub and shop within a mile but we could not find one at all. If we had known this we would never have booked. Bit disappointing really.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Apologies on behalf of the cleaning team, the issues have now been resolved. Unfortunately, the Pub and hotel have recently closed but there are other options available in nearby Port Isaac, just one mile from the property. Property Owner

  • "We did enjoy our stay at Kelmscot which is a perfect base from which to explore this wonderful part of Cornwall."

The house had lots of lovely touches however it was not as clean as it should have been and we did report this to the owner. If you have a large car you may find the parking a bit tricky as it’s a tight space. Be prepared to bring everything you need as there is no welcome pack at all - not even a pint of milk! Be aware the garden is not secure or enclosed so if you have a dog this may not be great. Like I say we really did enjoy our stay but would have been good to have the heads up about the parking space & the open garden.

  • "On arrival we had to give the place a once over as it did not appear to have been hoovered in awhile."

There were months old cobwebs and dust everywhere. Also the shower tray would fill up with water within seconds and overflow. The bath was also full of hairs and very dusty. However, once we had cleaned we did have an enjoyable stay. The downstairs is a very good size and the kitchen is well equipped. There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas so a very good location.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologise for the housekeeping issues, which will be addressed with our housekeeper. However, had we been made aware of the issues at the time of your stay, we would have done all we could to rectify them for you. We will ensure that the shower drain is checked. We are glad that you had an enjoyable stay and were able to explore the local area. Property Owner
