“The facilities on the site were good, food was lovely, pool was run as well as it could considering Covid, reception was very helpful, the owner was helpful regarding letting us in earlier, the only annoyance we found was the hot water, even using the boost button it still wasn't enough to run a decent bath and at times even do the washing up, we ended up using the kettle for extra hot water.”

Sunday lunch excellent and probably one of the best we’ve ever had out. The site is excellent if holidaying with your four legged friend as so Dog friendly but all the grounds and shared areas clean and well looked after.

“We enjoyed the lodge and the facilities provided and in this Covid-19 time that we find ourselves this really suited our needs.”

Lots of space for a family of 4-6. 2 bathrooms is a bonus. This lodge is situated in a holiday park. The holiday park itself is on a hill - reception at the top and the lodge at the bottom. Whilst we find this quirky, others might struggle. We were also thought that the site itself could have done with some tlc on the outside - eg a lick of paint, all the grass cut (some areas done but not others), remove cobwebs from balconies etc. But it was lovely and quiet - we enjoyed the hot tub with little background noise (considering it is in a holiday park) and we enjoyed having half the main pool to ourselves during our two Covid swim sessions. Special mention to the receptionist who was really cheerful and helped us plan what we were going to do whilst we were there as well as The White Hart Inn who had an amazing well priced menu on and amazing view. Note - we visited the on site pub which was fine - no problems at all, but The White Hart Inn was that little bit better for us.

“We had issues with a few things in the lodge we were staying in, the hot tub was filthy it had dirt and grime all around the sides of it, we did complain to the receptionist and told it was safe to use she was aware of the problem already, we didn't use it it was 2 days into our holiday before being able to use the hot tub so complained directly to the owner who came and cleaned lt.”

The shower wasn't great had to get the owner to sort that out, the hot water supply you have to keep pressing override, front door quite stiff, the toilet brush in the ensuite was filthy we had to go and buy a new one, when taking rubbish out we had to carry the bags all the way around the site to the main entrance as there are only one lot of bins, also could do with waste bins all around the holiday area.

“The lodge was just how we expected.”

It was very clean, there was 6 of us and we all were very comfortable. The down side we went to use the facilities but turned away as we didn't have the key fob which was in the lodge, we felt this should have been with the welcome pack, and explained about the use of the pool. we felt the welcome pack was very out of date. There are lots of signs saying dos and don'ts but not how. We tryed to use the hottub on the 2nd morning (Sunday) but the screen was locked I phoned the management company on the Sunday night who talked me through how to unlock the screen who then said would come and show us on the Monday who in fairness turned up on the Thursday's so spend all week just trying to press any buttons, but sadly we did not get the full use out of. We used the club house which was good and the quiz was brilliant. It's a lovely lodge and would return. looking for next year.

“The lodge was very clean.”

Decor is a little dated and missed having no washing machine as there are also no laundry facilities on the site. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and caused a few aches and pains. The lodge layout is great but furnishings do need updating to make it more comfortable. The site is in a lovely location but again it lacks facilities during the day. There is no food or bar facilities until five every evening which seemed such a waste as the evening we had a meal in the restaurant was very good. Perfect for a very quiet get away as long as your well stocked up with groceries and happy to cook or travel out offsite for a lunch or breakfast

Breakfast on the balcony listening to birds sing whilst admiring the views over the valley was a real treat. The indoor swimming pool was brilliant, always quiet and big enough to go lengths in. We met the owners, who were working on the property next door. They were extremely helpful and friendly. We would definitely return.

Location was great with lovely views but note it is very steep in places. The reception stocked essentials which was useful and Tesco is only a few miles away in Callington. Really enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back soon.

“Amazing, home from home...if home had a hot tub”

First of all, the cottage is exactly the same as the pictures. Clean, fresh and modern throughout with lots of room. There were plenty of pots and pans etc in the well equipped kitchen. The hot tub was serviced every day and was amazing. Site staff seemed to go above and beyond to make sure we were OK. In terms of location, we were at the bottom of a steep hill which was fine for us but prob not ideal for wheelchair users or people who struggle but was ideal for us being slightly out the way. The lodge came with access to the facilities on site via a swipe card. We found the gym and pool quite nice and the bar had some entertainment. This is ideal for people who want a bit of an escape, however you are only a short drive away from more lively areas. Was just what we wanted and will be booking again for next year very shortly. Thank you. 100% recommend.

“We just left no.”

51 yesterday and I miss it already, loved the hot tub, lodge was ideally located it was quiet but central to travel àll parts of Cornwall. If we decide to come back this far south I would Defo come back here.

“There was a few things that could be better as no where to dry towels such as no heated towel rail or tumble dryer or launderette on site as there is a hot tub and swimming pool on site this was an issue with our British weather.”

The pressure on the hot water taps seemed very low so struggled for hot water to wash dishes . Puzzles left in cottage was missing 2 pieces which was frustrating as you don’t realise til the end . There was a serious crack in the kitchen window . On the plus side we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday the lodge was comfy loved the hot tub even thou on arrival there was black residue on the water but was rectified by the maintenance man the on site restaurant and bar was second to none for quality service and meals.

I will definitely be re-booking another break at the same place. The hot tub was ready for use on arrival and really good strandard and was cleaned daily. We had a lovely break and I will definitely be re booking.

“Absolutely brilliant”

Loved this lodge, light, airy, spacious, comfortable and exceptionally clean, We rented this lodge in September and were very impressed with it. The rooms were of a good size, with a lovely view over the fields, although it was close to other lodges , being detached we felt it was very private. The hot tub was amazing, ready for use the evening we arrived and tested daily, so we felt very happy using it. The holiday park itself was very quiet, which suited us. The site is hilly, but you can park right outside the lodge, although there are a few steps to contend with. All in all we had a great holiday and will definately recommend number 51 Valley Lodges

“Fantastic lodge”

After reviewing some of the lodges we decided to book this one as the decor and furnishings looked modern and clean.It was just as described- very comfortable and welcoming we weren't disappointed.It was a novelty to have sleeping arrangements downstairs and it was lovely and cosy upstairs.The hot tub was great to come back to after a day out sightseeing.It is in a quiet spot in the bottom of the valley so steep hills up to pool and bar but as we only really used it as a base to tour the area so it wasn't a problem.One issue for some people -hardly any phone signal with several providers but it did mean my husband had a work free break !We will come back again although it is a very long journey for us to get here -I wished we lived closer!

The property

This attractive holiday lodge is set amongst woodland in the beautiful grounds of Honicombe Manor Holiday Village in the hamlet of St Ann's Chapel near Gunnislake.

In a secluded quiet setting on the edge of the site, this cottage is a perfect getaway for countryside lovers and birdwatchers.

Providing modest comfy accommodation with an upside down arrangement to take advantage of the stunning outlook from the open plan living room and balcony, the cottage feels cosy and welcoming.

With an on-site swimming pool, tennis court and walks from the doorstep to nearby NT Cotehele alongside the sweeping Tamar River, there is something to occupy the whole family.

For the less energetic, there is a picturesque train journey to Plymouth from the local station, where passengers enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Tamar Valley, an AONB, on the way.

Children will love the donkey sanctuary within walking distance or maybe visit Morwhellham Quay where The Edwardian Farm was filmed, which is a Victorian mining village with lots of activities within the living history theme.

Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away providing walks, historic legends and plenty of ponies.

This cosy lodge provides an ideal base to explore the well-known Tamar Valley.

Tavistock 5 miles; Plymouth 18 miles.

The small rural village of Gunnislake lies on the steeply wooded banks of the River Tamar. It has village pubs and a small selection of shops. Notably, the village sits at one end of the scenic Tamar Valley Railway - with regular services along the river bank to Plymouth. The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall’s far west. Close to hand, the Dartmoor town of Tavistock with its pannier market, pubs and restaurants is a must, as well as the popular fishing village of Calstock, renowned for its crafts and festivals, while the Donkey Sanctuary and Cotehele House and Gardens (NT) are just 10 minutes away.
