  • "Last minute break, we realised as per accurate description bathroom had no full shower."

Rest of the property made up for this, very clean, lots of thought gone into providing, condiments, tea, coffee, dishwasher tabs, foil, and 2 disposable barbecues and welcome treats for dogs. From the photos you can see there is a gate to garden and dogs were secure and loved the space. I would definitely say property is dog friendly, I have never stayed anywhere that allows dogs upstairs or on furniture we take their beds and they were well settled. The refurbishment of the stable is tastefully done, and was a perfect base for exploring Devon and Cornwall. We all slept very well. Bed upstairs amazing, I normally miss my bed, but this one was exactly the same, a good decent mattress. I was a little worried that someone had mentioned about fleas previously, but did read other reviews before booking. I am very fussy, the stable was very, very clean. I would 100% recommended it, for us on network 3 didn't have a good signal, which is a bonus, we chose to stay in the middle of nowhere to switch off. Therefore, a lovely quirky building, perfect for dogs and a small family, in the middle of nowhere, to recharge your batteries. Thank you, the Davie family & Paddington & Yogi Bear.

    The bathroom is to small.

Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated. We do mention the 'sloped ceiling' in the Cottage Info so that guests can consider this when booking. Being 6 ft 3 inches myself, I know exactly what you are referring to, its just one the 'quirks' with Stable conversion properties. We hope to see you again in the future Property Owner

  • "Didn't get asked if we needed the bed sheets changing and house full of fleas."

I apologise for the issues during your stay. We did contact you on the 15th March on the mobile number you provided to offer a refresh during your stay, but we didn't get a reply. I checked with the housekeeper whether you had made contact about any of the issues, and she confirmed she didn't receive any communication from you. If you had contacted would have been able to resolve issues for you. The housekeeper checked the house post your visit and there is no sign of fleas. We have never had a flea issue, and always received exemplary cleanliness feedback from guests. Being that the house is in an agricultural surrounding, we do get flies and other natural insects that try to stay in the house with you, but if windows are not left open with lights on, food areas kept free of crumbs etc, then this avoids the extra residents coming to visit you. If you do come and stay again, please immediately contact the housekeeper with any queries/issues and we will get resolved immediately. Regards Downicary Chapel Stable Property Owner

Everything is thought of to make your stay as comfortable as possible. My husband and I and our little dog Ollie have had a wonderful weekend, the weather was terrible but spending time here the rain didn't matter. Lovely rural location with The Pint & Post, the village pub that serves an outstanding roast dinner. We rarely go back to the same place but on this occasion we'll be booking again. Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback, and so glad you enjoyed your stay so much. The Pint & Post Roast Dinner does get a lot of positive mentions! Hope to you see and Ollie again soon. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

Much larger than it appears on the photographs. Excellent facilities, there wasn’t anything I wanted that I couldn’t find. The bedroom was cosy and very comfortable. The garden would be lovely in the summer, it’s a shame it was too wet for me to sit out for long as the views are beautiful both front and rear. There were lots of pretty walks directly from the cottage, many around the lanes so you can still go out, if like me, you choose a week of torrential rain - I didn’t move my car until the Wednesday! If I was being really picky I would suggest the sofa is reorientated in the room as at no point on it can you sit and face the log burner. Would definitely stay again.

Thank you for your great feedback. I am sorry I couldn't arrange better weather for you :) Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Beautifully decorated and well furnished. We found the beds to be very comfortable and the cottage provided well with regards towels, soaps, etc. The location was superb and very quiet and being able to take my dogs was the icing on the cake! I would have no hesitation in recommending this property for a holiday and we very much would like to return at some point in the future.

  • "We booked through Sykes but found the property on ‘Dog friendly cottages’."

Although the property is beautiful, with outstanding views, decorated beautifully and has absolutely everything you need, we didn’t think it was very dog friendly. Firstly dogs aren’t allowed upstairs, our dog at home is, so we had to put chairs in front of the stairs to stop him getting up there, a stair gate would have been easier. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture, our dog at home is so it made it a bit of a nightmare trying to keep him off. The garden can only be reached via the front door to the side where there is a gate, so if you have a dog that will chase anything, ie, rabbits, foxes etc you have to pop a lead on them to get to the garden. A stunning place but in our opinion not dog friendly.

We actually found ourselves going to bed extra early most evenings. The place is really lovely and very clean and is in a really lovely location. I would definately recommend this place however I would suggest that guests going in winter have enough data or take their own board games to keep them entertained in the evenings

  • "Had a fabulous stay at Downicary Chapel Stable!"

Great walks around the lanes and footpaths from the house and also really enjoyed Roadford Lake which is nearby. The village shop is useful, unfortunately didn’t get to use the pub due to Covid but we did manage to get a Chinese takeaway delivered to the door from Launceston. Great location, bathroom is a squeeze but we managed just fine for a whole week. Bed was super comfortable and the downstairs very spacious for the size of the property. Our little girl enjoyed every minute too and we all really liked the log burner too!

  • "PROS: Very clean."

Excellent finish inside. Had everything we needed in kitchen. Loved the wood-burner. Location was very peaceful. Parking ample. Garden great with lovely views. CONS: It is in the listing's description, but we missed the fact that there was no wifi. Not the end of the world for looking up stuff online as 4G was fine, just would have been nice to use our Firestick to watch some films in the evening. Instead we had to watch TV, which I hate! Lots of flies from next door farm coming into house. Bathroom is tiny with slanted roof, very difficult and uncomfortable if you're over 4ft tall! Worst of all, mattresses were awful and desperately need replacing, especially the downstairs bedroom single ones. Lumpy springs and when knelt on, the mattress compressed so much that my knee touched the base of the bed (I'm only 80kg!). I had to sleep with a duvet on top of the mattress to get any sleep. Thankfully it was warm enough to do so, but would be horrible in winter. All in all, it is a lovely cottage. I would stay again if they replaced the mattresses.

  • "Fantastic little cottage, well looked after and very clean/tidy."

Great location for privacy but still close enough to visit local areas and beaches. Couple of suggestions for the items needed: • A washing line and an airer (although stated there actually wasn’t one available) • Outdoor furniture as the pod (although lovely) is inadequate for a family bbq • A DVD player The only issue we really had was upon arrival we noticed the previous tenants rubbish/waste was overflowing and had not been collected. We had to look at this each time we went to the garden area and had no room for our own waste/recycling. This also attracted bugs/insects and animals close to the property. In the end I had to bag all of this waste and place outside the property for collection on the Wednesday but this never happened. Other than that we had a fantastic week and would very much book again through Sykes Cottages. Thank you

!! Fantastic pub and little convenience store a mile or so up the rd. everyone in the pub very welcoming and friendly. The cottage is dog friendly although you cannot let them straight out into the garden from the house. You need to walk them in on a lead ( mine is a pup so older dogs may be fine) Also be aware there are sheep in the field next door which is so lovely but there is only a wire fence between us which Hazel (my pup) could get under so had to be on a lead in the garden. Shower is a Little temperamental!!! All this said, we had a beautiful week, we had amazing weather for February. Beautiful widemouth beach is dog friendly with a lovely cafe. Port Isaac and Boscastle are a must to visit. All in all a lovely place. Perfect cottage.
