  • "Very happy with the property and provided an excellent base for our family for the short time we were in St Ives."

Plenty of space, best equipped kitchen we've used in a rental. Were able to park 2 cars, very tight, but can be done depending on make. Great location for the town and all it has to offer. For info the ironing board is in a poor state and could do with replacing.

  • "Just finished a weeks stay in Porthmeor Beach House."

The house is in perfect location to the village and down the hill to Porthmeor Beach. This beach was great for surfing and bodyboarding. Also for a good sunset when the sky is clear. We were a a group of 9 + a baby. There was enough room for us all without stepping on each others toes. Downstairs the lounge has great views of the beach and hills. Enough sofa space and TV with plenty of channels for TV time (if you stay in a chill) The Kitchen was well equipped with enough of everything. There’s a coal BBQ outside which I don’t think is in the listing as we bought our own, so you won’t need to bring your own, just the coal. It’s a large one. Surface space in the kitchen for plating up was a little limited but we managed ok. There was also an iron and ironing board, mop and bucket, floor brushes, hoover, and rubbish bags as Cornwall provides these for the residents. There was a lovely ‘hamper’ on the dining room table which had tea, coffee, sugar, scones and clotted cream! Also some washing up essentials like cloths and tea towels. A few cleaning products also. Plenty of games kept at the property for all ages. The bedrooms were all of good sizes with enough storage space and a few hangers in each bedroom wardrobe. Hand towels and Body towels, these could be a bit bigger for those that like to wrap around or have a little more body to wrap. Bathrooms were provided with hand gel soap. Small outside area which isn’t pictured but if you bring bikes you could easily store. Some suggestions for improvement- first floor twin room in need of some damp treatment as there were a few patches on the ceiling where the paint is flaking off. The outside chairs on the balcony need replacing as they have cracked a bit and most likely won’t have much life left. Had to sit on them carefully. Mop and hoover were a bit smelly- I re cleaned the mop as it was damp in the cupboard, could do with a quicker drying mop head or cleaners to leave fresh one. Hoover filter could probably do with a clean to freshen it up. We had some Ants (big, winged and small) in the kitchen by the bins/ used the Ant powder in the cupboard around the bins but couldn’t work out where they were getting in. The Ant powder seemed to do the trick but the occasional big Ant was found. There was a crack in the outside (left side) wall which a lot of Ants were going in and out- we put a few kettle loads down this (sorry Ants) and I think this helped. The top oven microwave screen is very faint to the point one day we couldn’t see anything, so I think it’s about time for a new oven. (This looks like the same one from 2013 for sale listing) A couple of the single bed mattresses could do with replacing as they feel worn out and dip in places. Cleaning- this was overall fine and a bit of mould in bathroom on silicone is to be expected but maybe a once a month, a deep clean for everything would be beneficial as this does seem to be a ‘niggle’ that alot of people have mentioned. Sofas cleaned, skirting boards dusted, bottom of shower screens scrubbed to remove limescale and heavy bleaching on mould. This is something I would hope the agents and owners can pick up on for the above. Overall this hasn’t changed our opinion that the house is a lovely place to stay in a great location for 3 generations of family to enjoy. It would be a house we would stay in again, so please don’t let the negatives put you off. Also there’s 2 folders for handy tips, do’s and dont’s and the appliance manuals. We loved the fridge freezer too. Kids loved being able to have ice in their drinks… now to go home to a regular fridge. It has been a pleasure to visit St Ives and would recommend the walks and beaches around. We didn’t have great weather all week but it’s England in Cornwall. Either way it’s been lovely.

The kitchen was excellent with high quality electric goods, good wifi throughout the house, and a huge dining table ensured we could all eat together. The views were sensational. We had a minor problem with ants which was resolved with the powder provided by the owner. The only real problem was the toilet in the top bedroom, you dont read the information immediately when you arrive from a 400 mile journey.

Location was perfect. The only thing a few of us picked up on was the cleanliness. There were crumbs on the floor of the dining room when we arrived, the windows were filthy. The above still isn’t enough to score down, such a beautiful home overall and we loved the stay.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Porthmeor Beach House!"

The house is such a great size for a large group and we felt at home from when we arrived! Bedrooms all such a great size and so handy having en-suites in the master rooms. Fab to have a bbq to use. Great location with short (steep) walk down to Porthmeor Beach. The house could do with a lick of paint in places but this is a tiny criticism! We had read previous reviews about parking but easily fitted two large cars on the drive which is so handy for St Ives! We are desperate to book up for next year… when will you be releasing the dates?! :-)

  • "This is the second time we’ve stayed at the property, the view keep up coming back."

We had a lovely time but did notice the house wasn’t quite of the same standard as it was 2 years ago. There has obviously been a flood or leak at some point which is very apparent as the paintwork was stained and flaking off in quite a few rooms. There was also a fair amount of mould under the window in the lower front bedroom. The cleanliness of the house was also of a lower standard. Mould on the window frames, dust on skirting boards, 2 dead spiders found on arrival, old food under the sofa which was obvious to see again upon arrival. Also no spare toilet rolls? A house for 9 people would surely require more than 4 toilet rolls? No foil in cupboards etc. It probably wouldn’t stop us rebooking another stay because of the views but we would certainly do our research for other properties first rather than just rebook.

Thank you for staying at Porthmeor Beach House, we are sorry to hear that the cleanliness was not up to the usual standard, had you contacted us during your stay we would have addressed any issues. The house is now undergoing maintenance work so we hope you will consider returning again Property Owner

The 2 masters bedrooms especially have incredible views. TVs in all but one of the bedrooms was a bonus too. The only downside is its a squeeze to get 2 x cars on the drive. We didn't try and paid the extra £50 for a rover ticket and parked in the very empty car park a short walk away (it was Christmas time).

Although letting you know (and sending photos) about this no one came to tidy it or empty the bins which were then full!!! Also the property was not very clean, again I sent photos to you and received no response. The most worrying thing was a paracetamol on the floor in the childrens bedroom ( which one of the children picked up) and a used plaster also on the floor as well as a hairband and hair tie found in another bedroom. I was very disappointed that no one had the courtesy to contact me again with a solution, even sent cleaners to do a clean. Not what I would expect! We didn’t let it spoil our holiday but I definitely don’t want anyone else to have the same experience. I would appreciate a response and would like to know why nothing happened despite my phone calls to your office.

The house catered for all 3 generations. We found the house comfortable and a lot bigger than we expected. The views each morning were stunning and the location to the town was perfect. The only criticism would be we found parts of the house a little shabby not overly clean and untidy. The back garden and courtyard could definitely do with a spruce up. A few windows couldn’t be opened due to broken handles. We are assuming the cleanliness would be down to the cleaning company so wanted to make the owners aware. There was quite a lot of dust, cobwebs and mildew in some of the bathrooms and bedrooms. Some of the scatter cushions on the beds were also dirty. The house needs a thorough deep clean but it certainly didn’t ruin our stay and we will definitely be booking again in the future

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope that your dad had a lovely birthday. The cleanliness issues have been addressed with the housekeeping team. Also the living room is much colder than all other rooms so maybe some curtains would help that as we weren’t sure if the fire place turned on or not. The bottom oven doesn’t keep its temperature, we have the same oven at home so it was strange how you had to keep pressing the rapid heat button to keep it hot. We loved our stay, lovely house and location, we would highly recommend staying, thank you kindly.

The location is amazing with fantastic views, beautiful house perfect for family groups. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for a couple of points. Everything was clean at eye level but we noticed quite a few cobwebs above eye level that we cleared ourselves. The shower situation was problematic particularly for those using the top floor. The shower seals need a good clean too. Would these issues put me off staying again however, no, however as it's marketed as a 5 star property I would like to think they will be sorted. All in all though it's an amazing house.

We were a three generational family group. The house gave us all plenty of space. It was warm, comfortable, with good facilities. There was constant hot water. We have all visited St. Ives on a number of occasions and for us the house was ideally placed with fantastic views. We had three cars but that wasn't an issue. We are well aware of the limited parking in St. Ives and bought a weekly parking ticket for the Leisure Centre Car park for one car that didn't move the whole week we were there once we dropped everything off. The house gave us easy access to the beaches, coastal walks, restaurants, shops etc. The only challenge was the oven/grill. Not the simplest for a rental - maybe would have helped if the manuals for the appliances were placed more prominently rather than being in a non-specific cupboard but that's a minor gripe! Loved the house!

The house provided us with the facilities and comfort that we were after for the week and the views over the beach where fantastic. Great to have parking for 2 cars in St.Ives. We parked a Quashqui and a Mazda 5 with some room to walk between so parking was fine for 2 good sized cars. We had no problems with any of the facilities in the house and they all worked fine. Just a note that the roads around St.Ives are quite steep so be prepared for a strenuous walk up and down from the town and beach!

  • "I haven't been able to fill in the 'Your Holiday Cottage' part of the feedback properly because the boxes to choose from aren't showing what they represent (very good, good, poor etc) so please ignore the above."

My thoughts would be Accuracy - good, Cleanliness - poor, Comfort - good, Facilities - average. My feedback: Despite giving an average review on your website for Porthmeor Beach House last year we decided to rebook for this year due to the location of the property and the stunning views, which on reflection is the main thing we paid for with this property. After arriving very early in St Ives on the first day of our stay we were disappointed to be told that we couldn't enter the property until 6.30 that evening due to there being an issue with the cleaning company. We advised CCH that a Tesco order was to be delivered between 4 and 5 and so had to enter the property. We met the cleaners, who had been drafted in from elsewhere. They did their best but unfortunately they had only arrived at 2.00pm so could not have managed to clean the whole house between the two of them in 4.5 hours. We actually helped them in the kitchen in the end and asked them to leave other things so they could leave us and we could start our holiday. A very disappointing start, not to mention a not thoroughly cleaned house. We discovered the next day that not enough towels had been left for all the guests (two children had no towels) so I phoned CCH to ask for more and they promised to contact the company responsible and get them dropped off. They never arrived so the children ended up sharing towels. It also transpired that there was no hot water (which meant the cleaners had used cold water to clean the property!). After wading through the very complicated and unhelpful Hive instructions to no avail I found that the hot water had been turned off under the stairs. Unfortunately, however, there was no hot water to be had in the sink in the top bathroom (the same as last year). We decided to read the guest book and were shocked by the previous guests 4 page review who were more than unhappy. We then started to find a few of the things they had mentioned had still not been addressed before our arrival - upstairs shower still fills up too quickly (as it did last year), the downstairs toilet was still leaking, lots of bulbs blown esp, in kitchen etc. The thing that worried us most, however, was that the electric was still tripping so there is something somewhere in the house that is at fault and is a potential fire or electrocution hazard - unacceptable for a holiday home. The house generally needs some TLC as it looks grubby in places and lots of little things need attending to (damp patches, missing handles, misted double glazing, plumbing etc) and I find it difficult to understand why these things haven’t been addressed considering the amount of money being charged for high season bookings. I am assuming that the owners of the property don't ever visit to see how their house is deteriorating and the service from CCH has been less than perfect, hence my negative feedback. We did enjoy our holiday despite all of these niggles but they certainly took the edge off our experience. We had considered returning to the property but have decided not to as the price had risen by £400 from 2017 to 2018 but the house was in a worse state of repair. I dread to think how much it will be next year for a house that is becoming shabbier and shabbier by the week. Unfortunately it is also making us think twice about booking another property with CCH.

The second ensuite didn’t appear to be king size as stated. The whole of the property required maintenance. The plumbing was a real issue. I was disappointed all in all. The hill down to the beach is not suitable for anyone who isn’t extremely fit.. the bedding was ridiculously thick and heavy. The dining table was unhygienic as it was made from old poorly fitting planks of wood. The kitchen itself didn’t have a single empty cupboard to put food in and the rear utility area was so cluttered you couldn’t even get to the back door. I didn’t feel comfortable with the bathroom as it had a large window and no blind. Nice views from the front of the property but that’s about all. The parking for 2 vehicles would only work for 2 small vehicles also. Wouldn’t go back or recommend due to location and the above.
