• "The cottage was very clean and very well equipped."

  It was nice and cosy place to spend the evenings in front of a log fire. The local pub was excellent and friendly and gave good meals. The only thing that I felt was needed is that I think it could do with a carpet runner by the front door instead of the mat so that you could get into the house to be able to take your wet-muddy shoes off. Other than that a great week.

• "2nd stay and still very happy."

  You do need to actually read the description as it clearly states the stairs are steep and that parking is a 1 minute walk away, it is a charming cottage not a modern purpose built house. The cottage is spotless, they have everything you may need. Lovely secure garden for the dog, with a nice walk through the fields just up the lane. The pub 2 minutes away is really nice with decent food and friendly locals. We are looking forward to our next stay.

• "Pretty Cottage well placed within village for shop, pub and walks."

  Overall very clean except for horribly mouldy shower curtain which needs to be replaced. Access to the cottage is via VERY narrow lane and it was impossible to open passenger doors of our Discovery to unload outside cottage. All nearby spaces allocated to residents or taken so we had to park in carpark 300 yds away. So for that reason we would not rebook. But that is the only reason.

  We were shocked to hear about the shower curtain…. Apologies, our team are always so fastidious about that sort of thing… shower curtains are always changed and washed with each new guest. As with a lot of old properties there is no parking directly outside the cottage but the little car park is a 2 minute walk from the cottage, but we have always been able to unload our Kia Sportage outside the cottage and Tesco’s and the refuse collection truck do manage to get up our lane ok. • "The cottage was very clean and tidy, everything we needed."

  Garden well maintained and a nice place to relax. The only parking available to us was behind the shop in the village and although not that far was slightly inconvenient. We enjoyed our stay there.

• "Cottage comfortable, parking terrible, stairs a nightmare, not suitable for older people."

  Sorry to hear you struggled with the stairs, as our cottage is 200 years old, the stairs are not as you’d find in modern properties. Unfortunately as with many older properties there is no parking directly outside our cottage, but we hope that you were able to use the little car park, 2 minutes walk away at the end of the lane, and unloaded/loaded directly outside which is never usually a problem. • "We would have felt safer with a hand rail on the right of the stairs as well, as they are very steep."

• "We recently stayed at Gwyn Cottage in April for 2 nights, of a 7 nights booking."

  When we arrived the cottage was freezing cold, the old storage heater which was set at the lowest number was simply inadequate for the lounge & dinning room, which then leads directly into the kitchen, there is a radiator in the kitchen but this is located by the back door which was also on the lowest setting. We tried several times to put the storage heater up, but this did not work. There is a log burner in the lounge, but no promised supply of fire lighters, which we had to go out in the pouring rain & purchase ourselves. (Please note there is no parking at the cottage the lane is far too narrow, you can only unload your bags. You then have to try & find a car space in the village, which proved to be difficult for the two days we were there). Please note the front garden is a shared garden with another neighbour on the opposite side next door. The log burner would have been great for heating the cottage as we have one at home, but I was recovering from a severe chest infection & having the fire lite proved to be difficult. There should be alternative adequate heating available in either central heating or other. There is also very limited hot water, set for 1 hour per day in the mornings, please note if you have a bath in the morning you are then without hot water for the rest of the day. The cottage is old & dated with a mixture of very old & old furniture. The kitchen is very basic with a kettle, toaster, microwave & fridge freezer, that is it. There is very little in the way of storage & counter space. The cooker was very dirty & the top had not been cleaned, we have taken lots of photos of everything we encountered & to evidence everything. There were also spiders & webs in a lot of the rooms. It is the start of the season & we would expect that the cottage would be really clean & warm. We attempted for 2 days to knock next door, where the advertised caretaker lives to try & resolve the heating & hot water issue but to no avail. Whilst out in the garden having coffee on the Monday morning we saw a Rat come out from under the summer house in the garden & run down towards the open french doors to the kitchen, it then ran down the side of the house. We again tried the caretaker next door but to no avail, & decided to contact the owner. She was very apologetic & explained that the caretaker had been away at a family celebration & wouldn’t be back for a couple of days. The owner explained that she would arrange for the caretaker to come and see us when they were back & turn up the heating & extend the hot water availability, & arrange for poison to be put down & for some netting to be placed around the summer house to stop the Rats getting into the garden. Although the owner was apologetic & polite, she didn’t seem to grasp the seriousness of the situation. How she imagined that we would want to stay with Rats in the garden, as well as poison being laid and the risk to our little dogs, is beyond us. We contacted Sykes straight away & paid for a second cottage & moved that day. We messaged the owner & explained that this situation was not acceptable to us & that we were moving to another cottage & would be seeking a full refund. Throughout her messages, which we have saved, She was quite hesitant to discuss our refund, until we made it very clear that we would be contacting environmental health & the council. Suffice to say we received our full refund the following morning. We would NOT recommend this cottage for obvious reasons.

  We were very sorry to read your review and list of issues. Gwynn cottage is normally very warm and toasty, even without the log burner being lit. Apart from the storage heater in the lounge, the radiator in the kitchen and the two heaters upstairs provide a good level of heat usually. The couple who look after the cottage for us were away that weekend unfortunately, but their mobile number is in the welcome pack as a first port of call and they are always available by phone, and always go the extra mile for guests. They have a team of staff who would’ve been able to pop round on that Saturday and sort the heating out in an instant. When I became aware of the situation and spoke to them, they sent someone round with firelighters within a couple of hours. They would also have been able to put the hot water on for longer, which we have now instigated, so the hot water comes on twice a day, and there should be plenty of hot water all day long. We were also sorry to hear the comments about the furniture as it was mostly bought brand-new last year, as were the curtains, blinds, soft furnishings, and linen. It is of a more classic style which is in keeping with the age of the cottage. The kitchen is small, but is well equipped and does also have a dishwasher and washing machine. Our team are usually fastidious with the cleaning, and the cottage had been used throughout the winter and had six hours of cleaning every week prior to occupation. We took the matter of a rat in the garden, very seriously. No one had seen a rat in the garden previously and I’m happy to say no one has seen one since (and we have been pretty much fully booked since then).We did put some safe poison down at the time for a few weeks in special rat traps that were not accessible to any visitors dogs. We discovered in the shed some grass seed which we think had attracted the rat in from the surrounding farmland, and so no longer keep anything remotely edible in the shed. We had no issue in refunding you your money, but we needed to speak to Sykes first to check their position on the situation and how we went about it. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, we were unable to speak to them for a couple of days, hence the delay. We are very sorry if the lack of communication for a couple of days caused any angst. • "Lovely home from home cottage!"

  Everything you could need was provided. The community shop in the village was handy and the people there were friendly. Our two dogs were safe in the pretty enclosed garden and we all enjoyed the logburner in the evening. The parking was fine and the loading/unloading was hassle free as it is a quiet little road. The cottage is in a super location, super close to Padstow, Tintagel and of course Wadebridge for the shops. We discovered Constantine Bay beach near Padstow and travelled 40 mins to Holy Well beach south of Newquay which was epic! The Eden project is close by too. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the sun shone!! Many thanks!

• "This is a lovely cottage that is in a great location, it was imaculate and very cozy."

  The pub is only 50 yards away and is really great, there is also a shop in the village which is handy. The enclosed garden is great for the dog and having walks on the doorstep is perfect. You can see the owners take care of the place and take great pride, would have no hesitation in reccomending and look forward to a return visit.

• "If some of the cottages allowed dogs upstairs."

  Then for example, anzious dogs would not damage downstairs. Our dog chewed a basket and fireglove, whilst I was in the shower. It wouldn't have happened if I'd taken them upstairs with me.. Lively lovely cottage and garden. Water pressure not great. But manageable. We wills stay again, if you'd have us

• "Perfectly situated to explore the local sights; local pub in the village is very friendly and serves great food."

  Cottage is well-maintained and comfortable. Would have preferred a tumble drier than a dishwasher, and the cooker is listed as gas online, but is actually an electric one, very slow to warm up and cook as we didn't always want to eat out in the evenings. For an old cottage it has thin walls in the lounge area, as extremely noisy neighbours at No2, loud music, constant yappy dog and a loud angry row one night. Otherwise an enjoyable post-Christmas break even though Cornwall was pretty much closed.

  Apologies that your holiday was somewhat disturbed by the neighbours. We gather this was a one off event and should not be repeated. Apologies again re-the cooker… It is currently listed as a gas cooker as we have recently changed it to electric, as the previous one was calor gas bottles and electric was deemed much more convenient for guests. It is a brand-new cooker and we will be changing the listing on Sykes very shortly. We just hadn’t quite got round to it as we are in the low season and it is just been busy catching up on all the maintenance at a quieter time of the season. • "Can highly recommend Gwynn cottage."

  Perfect location, tucked away but in easy reach of the coast and moors. A week just wasn’t long enough. The cottage itself is beautifully well maintained with everything you would need. It was cosy and warm, with use of an open log fire if needed. Lovely attention to detail. We even had all our shopping delivered as most of the large supermarkets cover the area. There is a lovely village pub at the end of the road and plenty of walks if you are taking dogs. There were plenty of dog towels provided (we had taken our own just in case) and a very secure back garden too. It’s easy enough to drive up to the cottage to unload etc and plenty of street parking nearby. We never had any issues. If you need anything the owners are very prompt at replying. We will definitely be back again.

• "Lovely cottage we really enjoyed our stay !"

  Dave who looks after property left us scones,clotted cream,milk tea coffee which made us feel very much at home very nice touch thank-you ! On a negative there were parking issues as you cannot park outside property lady who lives at end property was angry that we were blocking her right of way shouting at top of voice well I have right of access well we had to unload car so that spoilt our stay a bit so beware ! And mind your head when coming down stairs as we both hit ours on way down needs mind your head sign ! Could do with heating in bedrooms. It was a lovely well maintained cottage and we would love to return sometime in the future ! Thank-you Kind regards Derricke & Steve

We are actually having some electric radiators fitted at the end of the month just in time for the winter so hopefully next time you come it will be a little warmer upstairs. • "We had a wonderful stay at Gwynn Cottage."

  The cottage is so cosy. Everything was clean. The location is ideal: close to great beaches. And the proximity to the field (seconds away) made it easy to exercise our working cockers. Would recommend to others, and will likely return.

• "Beautiful old cottage exactly like the photos, gorgeous friendly village with a great local pub and shop."

  Locals all nice and the lovey neighbours are on hand should you need anything. Great places to visit all within half an hour drive, no need to venture beyond that especially if you’ve travelled a long time to get there anyway. Felt very honoured to stay somewhere with so much history.
