  • "Cottage is close to all amenities in St Mawes - just a short walk away."

Comfortable beds and living/dining area upstairs offers wonderful views of the harbour and sea - always something going on. Unfortunately the bathing facilities let this cottage down; the main bathroom with hand held shower and en suite shower room to main bedroom did not offer anything like enough power in order to have a decent shower / rinse off soap / wash hair etc. The en suite shower had to be kept on Eco in order to offer consistent warm water (water not hot which at this time of year was inadequate). On High the water was intermittently scalding hot or cold. The main bathroom would benefit from a shower screen or shower curtain in order to be able to shower properly - again, no power to the shower. We have stayed in Pier cottage previously and hoped improvements to the bathrooms had been made, unfortunately not. Shame as other improvements are great and the cottage has everything needed for a great week away in a fabulous place - St Mawes. Above being said, we enjoyed our week but are unlikely to book again unless the bathing facilities are improved. Presumably this us why the cottage is 3 stars?

We have been visiting for a number of years and love staying in Pier Cottage. The kitchen would benefit from a couple of pretty storage tins for cake and biscuits. The bed linen and towels are very high quality Thank you

  • "Lovely cottage, great location, nicely furnished and great views across the harbour."

The only real downside is if you have a dog like ours who will not 'go' on the patio, there is nowhere in the courtyard for them to do their business, so late night walks before bed were required - and there are not many grassy areas in St Mawes either.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week at St Mawes, the location of the property was wonderful…we enjoyed breakfast direct from the bakery, so fresh!"

Pier Cottage is very comfortable and equipped to fulfill our needs. The lateness of availability (5.30) and the early hour of departure (9.00) were disappointing, as it was to find clothing and other items left by previous guests in drawers that were gritty with sand and dust inside. Other than that, we would recommend the property to others, especially if you like a comfy bed!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and were able to sample the delights from the local bakery. St Mawes is a lovely location, with good restaurants, shops and galleries. We wanted you to know that the check-in time has now been changed from 5.30pm to 3pm. Had we been made aware of the items of clothing and the dust and sand you found in the drawers during your stay, we would have asked our housekeeper to rectify these issues whilst you were at the property. Aside from this we do hope that we might be able to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Property Owner

Very comfort and had everything we needed. Sunny courtyard patio area too. Ideal for all local amenities and felt like we were in the centre of everything ; but it was still a quiet spot.

We had a great stay at the cottage which was perfect for two adults, two children and a dog. Terrace was a real sun trap and great for lunch, the dog, drying wet suits and storing paddle board!

St Mawes is a lovely village with quite a few eateries and drinking places. Ferry to Falmouth opens the gateway for walking and train journeys around west Cornwall. The owners and service staff are excellent. Recommended

As the living area is upstairs you look out of the window at the front straight at the estuary and can watch all the boats coming and going on the water. This has been the best holiday rental we have booked so far

  • "Pier Cottage has a wonderful location and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, but it is looking rather tired and could do with some updating particularly decorating throughout, it would make such a difference."

If you keep properties to a high spec then it is most likely people will take greater care of looking after it while they are there. Your Pier Cottage sign outside the property could also be replaced, not good for your image. I hope you find this helpful Paul

Thank you for your feedback. We realise that the cottage needs an update and will be doing a full repaint and new carpet upstairs as well as new windows and doors throughout this December. There will also be a new bed in the master suite and some new light fittings where they are needed. Do come back again soon! Property Owner

  • "We tried to cancel our holiday three months before we could not get in touch with you at all."

Just a week before our holiday after waiting on hold for nearly two hours we got through to you. You told us we could not cancel the holiday . We could not afford to loose our money . My poor husband had to go to work due to COVID and could no longer take time off ,my handicapped son could not come because of isolation . So my husband drove me and my daughter and friend 9 hours had to return for work another nine hours and come back nine hours on the Friday to pick us up and take us home to get back for work . Poor man . But allowed us to holiday and not loose our money . The cottage was in a wonderful position views beautiful and comfy home. But it it lacked TLC in places . If the owner only put these things right it would Make a massive difference . Needs painting ,damp patches ,some furniture Looked grubby .A couple of bits in the kitchen need updating . We had lovely weather and st maws is beautiful. It made up for all the stress we had before we came even though my husband didn’t benefit from this .

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are so pleased that you loved the position of the cottage with its beautiful views and that you found it so comfortable. Thank you for highlighting some of the issues you encountered. We’d like to let you know that we have contacted the owner who has assured us that she will attend to each of the points that you have raised. The property is due to be repainted but unfortunately due to the difficult situation this year it has had to be delayed. We do apologise for the difficulty you experienced in trying to contact us to cancel your holiday and the long drive that your husband then had to make. We have experienced an extremely high demand and are sorry that you had such a frustrating time. We do hope to welcome you back next year when hopefully things are more settled. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage in excellent location."

Walked from the cottage so didn’t even take the car out for 5 days. Interesting last night with the arrival of Storm Callum with the waves surging up the alley and reaching the lounge window. Friendly village with all the amenities you need including a butchers. Watch House food on our last night was amazing. Carne & Towan beach great for dogs when the tide is out. Took the ferry to Place & Falmouth which extended the option for walks as well. St Mawes hotel next door was very convenient & they have a hidden cinema which you need to book. Staff were really friendly. Overall great place lucky with the weather at this time of year as shorts all week. Oh & one of the machines in the car park now takes cards which is much more handy. A weeks parking was £30 so you need a lot of coins if the card machine is not working but i think good value.

This was our fourth visit to the cottage and whilst it’s location is perfect it would benefit from an internal refurbishment - a smaller dining table and fewer chairs for example. The garden table and chairs are in need of repainting and new loungers and cushions would be good. An ideal position for visiting lots of beaches, Falmouth, Truro with not using the car, instead using Fal River ferry services on time running extremely frequently from 8-00am till 18-00pm then a water Taxie if required. Facilities in St Mawes very good, small supermarket always well stocked, Fresh bread, cousants, selection of cakes every day, butches selling excellent produce, paper shop/post office good places to eat, super fish & chips from the watch house. Ample parking.

  • "Parking is a bit tricky."

For us it was most convenient to pay £6 for 24hours each day on local car park, you can pay £30 for a week, but you need that much cash for machine as there is not a card pay option! Outside the front door you can use 30 min park between 8am - 6pm or single yellow parking 6pm - 10am.. but it has to be said often in use. But you soon get used to the parking shuffle and car park is less than 5min walk. Although dog friendly accommodation, the town is less so for dog walking. You can use small beach in harbour at low tide and car park field below castle (payment machine not in use May 2018). Neither the recreation ground nor beaches allow dogs. Brilliant dog friendly beach at Porthcurin with excellent Hidden Hut cafe... parking on very steep hill down to beach. Recycling in car park, doesn't do plastic containers, only bottles.

About the location

ST MAWES

Falmouth 16 miles via car ferry, 3 miles via passenger ferry; Truro 10.5 miles via car ferry, 18 miles by road.

St Mawes is a small fishing village situated on the Roseland Peninsula, part of Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush countryside and has a notable historic castle guarding the entrance to the River Fal. The village is a haven for boating and yachting with many events and functions taking place and of course the local produce is outstanding, with local pubs and restaurants serving delicious seafood dishes throughout the year. Nearby there are plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy including walks, watersports and boat trips. Across from the harbour is the town of Falmouth, with its magnificent natural harbour (the third largest in the world), winding streets and beaches, the amenities will keep you occupied for hours. The town's old harbour-side pubs, excellent shopping, art gallery and stunning National Maritime Museum simply complete the picture.
