“From the start, our hosts Lesley and Darren were extremely helpful and gave us a warm welcome to their property.”

Lesley explained its features and showed us around, making sure we had all the necessary information, nothing seemed like too much trouble. Thoughtful inclusions were throws to cover furniture should our Labrador take a fancy to the settee, but we had brought our own just in case. The Bottle of Red Wine was asap appreciated by the two legged occupants. The Barn is well located, just a 20 minute drive to Sandymouth, a fabulous National Trust, Dog friendly (out of Season) Beach which at low tide, was vast! Fortunately our NT membership cards covered the cost of the car parking as with all NT properties. Summerlease at Bude is another excellent beach with a canal walk close by. From the Bedroom window you get a good look at the Upper Tamar Lake, which is a 5KM circular walk on good pathways. Watch your Dog with the local fishing fraternity though! Best to keep on a lead most of the time. We live in a rural Barn so we are used to Log Burners and the one here is very efficient, churning out plenty of heat and the additional electric wall radiators are simple to operate and very effective. There is also a small fenced, secure garden, which on a summer's evening would be delightful for eating outside. Generally speaking the property was in a high standard of presentation, amply equipped for two people in a light and airy space. The paddock for exercising your Dog is very secure but make sure your Dog is on a lead or very passive, as there are some roaming Hens adding to the charm of this Farm and its accommodation. It is one of those properties that we would return to without hesitation and Lesley and Darren make you feel very welcome. Highly recommended. Thank you. Julia and Keith.

Brexworthy Farm Cottages

Bradworthy 2.5 miles, Bude 7 miles. These five cosy, character cottages are in an attractive courtyard setting on a working smallholding near the picturesque village of Bradworthy. Lying on grassy meadow uplands overlooking the beautiful 81 acre Upper Tamar Lake, these Devon cottages offer a peaceful retreat for couples amidst rolling countryside, with the chance to sample Devon farming life, as the owners keep rare breeds of sheep, alpacas and free range chickens, plus guests have the opportunity to see the new born lambs in February on request. These Devon cottages have been beautifully restored from old farm buildings and are furnished in a traditional, rustic style to provide charming holiday homes with plenty of character. Positioned around the farmhouse, each Devon cottage has its own garden area and use of a communal courtyard garden full of flowers and shrubs. From here there is access to a dog walking field and plenty of countryside walks with wonderful views of the lake. The local village of Bradworthy has plenty of interesting small grocery shops and pubs set around the traditional village square. The dramatic North Cornwall coastline is only 10 minutes in the car, where there are stunning cliff-top walks along the South West Coast Path, some pretty fishing villages to explore such as Clovelly and Appledore and long sandy, dog-friendly beaches in the Bude area, with Bude itself offering great beaches, superb surfing and a variety of amenities. You will be sure of a huge welcome at these friendly Devon cottages.
