  • "Can't fault this lovely cosy cottage, good quality fixtures and fittings, spotlessly clean and well equipped, comfy beds & an impressive welcome pack."

Enclosed dog friendly private garden and driveway for 2 cars, which is essential for village. Cottage is located in the centre of Stratton about 10mins from Bude beaches and well located for exploring Devon & Cornwall. It has 2 pubs, we used Kings Arms opposite (friendly with good food) and a local convenience store. Unfortunately Stratton is not a sleepy, tranquil village as it has a busy road running through it, which we weren't expecting but if you keep bedroom windows shut it is muffled. We would thoroughly recommend this chocolate box cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to publish a review, and we're really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Thatchings. We try very hard to ensure our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and so it is always encouraging to hear feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon. Property Owner

A new kitchen has been added and it is very well equipped. The cottage is really warm and cosy and has everything you need on holiday. A lovely welcome pack with card was there when we arrived with tea, shortbread and sparkling wine. A lovely thought. I was also really impressed by Steve the owner who text me to say the cottage was available slightly earlier than 4pm which has never happened in other rentals. My only slight annoyance was the shower which has no power at all but that was the only negative un a truly fabulous week. Thank you Steve, we will be back.

  • "What a fantastic property!"

The attention to detail provided by the owners is superb as was the level of communication following our booking. We’ve stayed in various properties in Cornwall over the years and this is by far the best in every way. It really is a home from home in terms of how well equipped the property is - the kitchen especially! Thanks also for the welcome pack, our daughter couldn’t wait to open the goodies! We should also mention the pub opposite (The Kings Arms) which was very welcoming and friendly and offered some great homemade food! Overall an excellent holiday!

So kind of you to take the time to provide this review. It's always very touching indeed to know our guests have enjoyed their stay. I've always believed that the cottage should be as we would expect if we were guests in terms of cleanliness, comfort and facilities , and I'm pleased on this occasion we've been able to deliver on that expectation. The pub opposite is indeed a great place to relax and enjoy the warmth of their welcome and their log fire! I hope you will come back and stay with us again sometime soon, but until then, thank you very much indeed for staying with us and for your kind review. Steve. Property Owner

Would highly recommend staying at The Thatchings, we are very likely to try and return ourselves one day.

Going through into the delightfully spacious yet snug sitting room, you will find a large fireplace with a multi-fuel stove at its centrepiece, providing a welcoming warmth to the room in the winter months as you snuggle down for a family film night.

There are three bedrooms in the cottage offering a choice of sleeping arrangements for your group needs, consisting of a master bedroom with king sized bed, a second bedroom with double bed, and a final twin room with two single beds, each bedroom offering a stylish interior in which to rest.

Begin the day with a soak in the bath before pouring yourself a warming cup of coffee and stepping out into the garden; being fully enclosed, it makes an ideal spot for children to play, with a fine decked area with loungers and table and chairs for total relaxation for the adults.

The property benefits from two excellent pubs within walking distance, with the Kings Arms located just across the road from the cottage and The Tree Inn just a 2 minute walk, both serving fine local ales and home cooked food, perfect after a great day out exploring the many wonders of the local area, with general stores scattered about too so you can pick up any fresh ingredients for your homemade meals.

With Bude so close by and a choice of beaches to suit all the family, this is the ideal location for the perfect beach holiday!

At the end of the day though, being able to return to the tranquil surroundings of such a wonderful relaxing thatched cottage will surely make Thatchings an ideal choice for a coastal holiday whatever time of year.

About the location

STRATTON

Bude 2.5 miles.

A charming small town close to the resort town of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its lovely old church, local pubs and good array of amenities, it’s a fantastic base for exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rocky pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path and many other rights of way winding over the cliff tops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea are a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside, while a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants take care of any other wants and needs. Bude Canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town and rowing a boat through its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two. Within the town there are also two golf courses, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley and leisure centre. A perfect location for all that North Cornwall has to offer.

Please note this property will only accept 7-night stays commencing strictly on a Saturday.
