  • "We had a thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay at Penhaven, having 7 nights to enjoy the house and surrounding areas, great for walks, sightseeing and bike hire for a ride to Padstow and Bodmin along the Camel trail, taking in the vineyard for 'refreshment'."

There's easy access to places like Boscastle and Tintagel. The great little community shop next door run by volunteers stocks most things you need including the contents of the great courtesy hamper that greeted us on arrival!! The Coombe Barton pub serves great food and local beers, it's better to book a table (table 7 has a sea view) as it's very popular. The walk back up to Penhaven is steep but achievable and there's also an occasional bus. The house itself has pretty much everything you expect, we made good use of the BBQ for some al fresco dining and we found no sign of peeling wallpaper or mould as a previous review mentioned. Thanks for a great week.

Thank you for you feedback We’re so pleased you had a great time. The poor review we had recently is really odd and sounds as if they stayed somewhere else ! Glad you liked the community shop too. Neil Property Owner

  • "Lots of good points about this property, the space, comfy beds, garden, location, well equipped and the lovely park behind the property."

However the general condition of the property was not as expected - it is very tired decor-wise. Stained furniture, poor and broken flooring, mould on walls, peeling wallpaper, poor showers, many bodged attempts at DIY. We did however enjoy our stay at Crackington Haven, but were disappointed in the so called ‘5 tick’ property and felt that it was not value for money.

  • "The accommodation was excellent, convenient for several popular locations we visited and well suited for our family group."

The kitchen dining area served as a useful gathering area with the upstairs lounge a nice retreat for evenings. The community shop and park were ideally located and we made use of both. Unfortunately, the weather was not ideal but on the days when it was dry for a while it was gave an insight into how comfortable it would be for inside/outside living. A neighbour was also doing some heavy demolition work starting each morning at 7:30, which was unfortunate but did not affect our overall view of the property.

The welcoming hamper was such a lovely touch too. All the beds in the property were super comfy we all had really good nights sleep. The garden was wonderful as I knew I could let my dog out securely.

  • "Stayed here with family ranging from 78 to 11 years and the dog for a week during February half term."

On arrival a beautiful welcome hamper that was much appreciated. Staples in cupboards and jars that was simply brilliant too. Lounge area open and welcoming and the upstairs lounge has a TV and equally comfortable furniture. The fire log burner is a brilliant addition and makes it lovely and cosy. Lovely secluded garden that's safe for the dog to go out in. We arrived in the middle of Storm Eunice leading into storm Franklin and any previous damage was unseen and tidied away by the housekeeper. Sadly during our stay we came home to a powercut - no ones fault just one of those things. The owner of the property had already contacted us on arrival to make sure everything was fine and I let him know when the power went off. He was so brilliant and did everything he could, even though the power cut was out of his hands. Superb host - thank you so much Neil. We ate at the local Combe Barton Inn which had beautiful food and welcoming staff and is also dog friendly. The Cabin Cafe was also a delight and is highly recommended- they were also super lovely during the power cut and provided bacon rolls and hit drinks to the local community. There is a little beach down there too which is very pretty. Next door to the house is a crackington shop ..very small, staffed by locals but very well stocked for all essentials. If I had one criticism it would be the showers ..... they are electric and the intermittent hot and cold water and lack of water pressure can be amnoying ....but first world problems !! Didn't detract from the wonderful time we had but would be nice if they were upgraded to be 5* like the rest of the property. The house is situated in a beautiful village within walking distance if the beach, although its an EXTREMELY steep hill back up !! It is quite far off the beaten track so a good 15-20 minutes to the nearest town. Thank you Neil we gad a wonderful time and you were an amazing host. Would recommend to any large families wanting a laid back, comfortable break.

House very clean and comfortable beds.Easy parking. The children enjoyed the play park at the rear of the garden. The newly opened community shop is amazing this is next door to Penhaven so is very handy.Boscastle farm shop has excellent produce including local meat there is also a restaurant which has a good menu They also sell logs for the stove. The downside to the property was the the low water pressure meaning the 3 showers can’t be used at the same time ! Interesting in the morning. The road down to Crackington Haven is not one we would walk there is no pavement also very steep. We drove down and parked in the private car park which being winter had plenty of spaces.A good choice for a large family group.

The owners were superb and left a wonderful welcome hamper which got our holiday off to a lovely start. The beds were very comfortable and the house was spacious with everything you need to have a relaxing break. We loved the location, everywhere we visited was a scenic drive and not too far. Definitely recommend!

  • "Penhaven provided the perfect spacious accommodation for our seven adults and dog."

The games room with floor beanbags proved a great hit with the five gamers in our party as did the good selection of boardgames. There was a separate TV room for anyone who didn’t want to join in. The house was set in a friendly village with a clear sense of community spirit including a produce stall on Sunday mornings. Plenty of picturesque quiet lanes to walk the dog. The walk down to the beautiful Crackington Haven bay was a hilly challenge but there are buses down and the cliff walks have fantastic scenery. The café and hotel near the beach provided good menu with the Cabin Cafe selling top drawer Cornish ice cream and a good vegan selection of light meals and cake. Thank you to the owners for the welcoming cream tea and Prosecco. We very much enjoyed our stay.

  • "Just return from a lovely week away with our family however the accommodation was disappointing."

It was definitely not a 5 star property would rate nearer a 3 star compared to the property we stayed in last year. It needed to be deep cleaned right through, the extra cleaning for Covid of wiping down door handles with bacterial spray is good but the whole place was dusty and hadn't been cleaned through for a while you could tell by cobwebs in areas and dirt under furniture. Some of the bathrooms were not cleaned to a normal standard with one of showers been dirty and a few of the toilets not fully cleaned. The blinds on the back door were covered in some kind of stain or dirt which looked awful. We had an issue with closing the back patio door so didn't use it after the 2nd day. The standard of the pans was below a 3 star and not what we expected. Lots of things needed updating and were showing signs of wear and tear not expected in a 5 star property. Some things mentioned in reviews 2 years ago not been touched like the garden furniture and the back decking area steps need fixing which could be dangerous. Someone commented on the handsets for the gamers not working which we managed to fix a couple so they could be used. The size of the property was good however not a big enough area to sit more people on sofas downstairs to relax whilst the kids were in the garden. Good location for the area and sightseeing and a good play park for the kids behind the house.

Thank you for your feedback, which has come as somewhat of a shock to us as in over 5 years of letting out Penhaven we have had almost entirely very positive feedback. We were happy to hear you had a lovely week and that the location and property were very nice. The property is deep cleaned every changeover and Covid cleaning guidelines are followed with attention to detail, I visit regularly myself to check too. The garden furniture, large table and chairs to seat ten, was replaced in April this year so is new. Following your feedback we have checked and replaced any worn oven trays and casserole pots, as they have had rather a lot of use this season. New batteries have also been put in all the tv remotes and games handsets, along with additional spares in the utility room. The issue with the back patio door was checked by my housekeeper and all four of the sets of back doors seem to be working correctly. We hope you will visit Penhaven again in the future. • "April 2021 This multi family get together holiday home is just perfect."

Very comfortable, very clean, peaceful and equppied to a very high standard. Most of the 5 star bedrooms are downstairs and one upstairs and are spread out across all corners of the house making them very private. There are also plenty of other areas to chill out away from others if you want but the massive family room incorporating the large and very well equipped kitchen, utility room, dining room and one of the sitting areas is perfect for all to enjoy together any time of the year. The garden is secluded and a great size. It was even safe enough for our little dog to play and explore unsupervised. Fabulous location for exploring the west coast including Bude, Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Padstow and so many coastal walks. The only downside is that the walk to Crackington Haven beach is more than a mile and includes a very steep hill but Cornwall is full of hills so it's not a deal breaker and it was worth the walk. Highly recommended. Ms Hayter

  • "This is one of the best accommodations I have ever experienced in a cottage holiday!"

The house was well situated with plenty of room and space for the whole family! The upstairs living room is a godsend when the oldies wanted some downtime from the youngsters! The bedrooms are all really well kitted out with extremely comfortable beds and the garden is just perfect to relax & have a meal in! Crackington Haven has a beautiful little beach but with Bude straight up the coast there are plenty of places to visit! Would recommend going further afield to visit Lost Gardens of Heligan & The Eden Project! Amazing week spent in this glorious house, thoroughly recommend as a base for a fab week in North Cornwall! Stunning!

  • "We really enjoyed our holiday in this area staying in this beautiful house."

The property is spacious, clean and was as described on the website. It is perfectly situated for exploring the north where Bude is, or to the south for Padstow, Boscastle, or Polzeath Beach. Crackington Haven beach was also lovely but a shame that it was a bit far, steep and a narrow road to walk to with younger children. We appreciated the warm welcome of freshly made scones and other goodies to keep us going. However, some more toilet roll wouldn't have gone a miss as we ran out after 3 days! Also when we went to use the torches they were corroded inside and not working which was a little disappointing. It was great to have a park so close at the back of the property for the kids and a good sized garden for hem to play in. The outside furniture and wooden planters could do with replacing though, to bring them up to the standard of the rest of the property. All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Penhaven and would definitely consider it again for the future.

  • "Penhaven is a beautiful house, well appointed and very comfortable for our three generations to share."

It would be useful if the Sykes listings had floor plans and more information about the facilities at the property and the surrounding area. It was a pleasant surprise to discover the property backed on to a children’s playground, my nieces made great use of this. It was also useful as the garden was not as large as I had thought from the photos. Personally it would have been helpful to know in advance that there was a BBQ available for use if you bring your own charcoal and matches. However the owner was very helpful when contacted in providing the extra information needed. All in all a beautiful house in a lovely location.

  • "The whole family was absolutely blown away by the quality and location of Penhaven."

We usually book with Aspects holidays for at least two cottage holidays to Cornwall every year and will now always consider yourselves, too. Penhaven is a beautiful, well appointed property which made us feel like we were in a home away from home. There was nothing which we needed that Penhaven didn’t have and it provided a wonderful base to explore Cornwall from. The welcome hamper was a gorgeous extra touch that made us even more excited to begin our holiday. The beds in the property were the most comfortable of any property we’ve stayed in and the living spaces were open & brilliant for the whole family to be entertained. Contact with Neil, the owner, was superb as he got in touch to wish us a happy holiday and again at the end of the week to say he’d hoped we’d had a good time. We’ve never had this with any other property we’ve stayed in and it was a lovely touch. We’ve already begun planning our return to Penhaven and have recommended it to two other big families as we were so impressed with the booking. Thank you so much for a brilliant week; we were so sad to leave!
