  • "Lovely cottage in great setting."

The cottage was clean and tidy, well equipped and perfect for our week long stay. The location was great as we were able to explore areas in both Devon and Cornwall, with shops nearby in Launceston and Tavistock as well as a great farm shop just down the road.

  • "Great cottage with fantastic kitchen & utensils."

Warm & comfortable, would definitely reserve again. On the downside for a 3 bedroom cottage missed two toilets, water tank could only accept 2 x showers at anytime. Armchairs in living room uncomfortable.

  • "We had a lovely week at Thrushel Cottage, it had everything we needed and more (and the cream tea on arrival was much appreciated)."

The master bedroom was lovely but having seen previous reviews by just sitting on the bed we could tell how uncomfortable the mattress was, this was a shame but the other double bedroom was fine for us (on this occasion). The location is peaceful and friendly and there are several places to eat within walking distance - the local pub (Fox & Grapes), the Arundel Deli and also the Arundel Hotel which has a lovely garden you can sit in if nice weather. The cottage gardens are secure for dogs (if any dog was going to escape it would be ours, and he didn't). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Nick, Helen & Charlie

  • "Lovely cottage."

Will be going again. Couple of points that would improve the stay. The bed in master bedroom is awful, I defy anyone to sleep on it. Many complaints about this bed in other reviews !!!!!!!! The garden really needs a good all round prune back. The lawns are pretty poor. Gardner has no box on mower hence grass cuttings get absolutely everywhere.

This is a high, Victorian antique bed, where the base is made in a different way from modern beds . For some people there is not enough support, others love it . The orthopaedic mattress has nothing to do with the support issue . There has been a new base added, and so there should be no rolling into the middle any more and hopefully it will be very comfortable. Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely stay."

Like a 'home from home', everything you would need for a nice relaxing holiday. Lovely setting and if you are a dog owner (be it a large or small dog!), it is ideal, we have a French Bulldog and felt she was totally safe in the enclosed garden. Very clean and we would certainly go again.

  • "The cottage was more than we expected!"

The cleanliness, facilities, position and it was excellent for the dog. We had no worries about him getting out which is a priority for us. There was a lovely scone, jam and cream tea welcome basket on arrival. Lots of games and books available if required but as the weather was perfect we didn't need them. Only negative we can say is the main bed was very uncomfortable. There was no solid base under the mattress and it made you roll into the middle. Would definitely recommend the cottage though! Thank you for helping to make our week so enjoyable.

A quiet location with nice garden which I couldn’t use due to weather.

Local pub literally 2 minutes away. The owners couldn’t be more helpful. Very thoughtful arrival gift of a tasty cream tea. Hopefully booking Thrushel Cottage again soon.

The photos don't do the cottage justice it is really comfortable and has everything you need and the enclosed garden is so handy for the dog. The pasties from the farm shop are a must try and the welcome scones with jam and cream on arrival just sent us on the slippery slope. Just a really great!!!

  • "Yes let the owner be aware of this bad experience, we arrive with one toilet roll, limited cleaning materials, no laundry detergent."

Beds are very uncomfortable can’t sleep and gives you body ache. 2 mattresses are piled together main bed too high, not standard height of bed. Tried to vaccumm carpet but no suction, ended up picking dirt on the carpet. Very disappointed when charged double for just changing date though it’s changed to non school holiday period. Paying almost £750 for 3 nights is not even near to being worth.

  • "I believe the owner has only been offering this property for less than 1 year."

The owner has done exceptionally well, the quality is very high. I would have liked clearer advice on the electric heaters and could not get the bathroom one to work whilst for the first day most were too hot. Otherwise very tranquil just what my wife and I were looking for. Being staying in Lifton in the same cottage every year ( covid excepted) but could not get in this year. Thrushel has now given me a dilemma in a positive way

  • "This is a beautiful holiday cottage, very clean and tidy, I was overawed by its condition when I first entered it."

The Pros... The Kitchen is very well equipped with a wonderful breakfast bar, Dishwasher, Washer-Dryer, and Microwave. The complementary X-Cross buns and chocolate eggs was a very nice touch. The three bedrooms were very comfortable and sleep came easy, the bathroom was very clean with a very nice bath. The living room was very comfortable and clean with a good selection of books and games should the weather take a turn for the worse. We had no trouble with the heating although I would suggest setting both dials to 1 or 2 for a nice ambient temperature The Cottage is very dog friendly and Roscoe enjoyed his stay there, the back garden is fully enclosed and big enough for the canine member of the family to play, The front garden is also fully enclosed thus added security for your vehicle and your doggy The cons... (None for me but observation only) The steps into the back garden are a little high, a member of the family with back or hip problems may have trouble. The wall that borders the river in the front garden is a little low so a jumpy dog could get out if it so wished to do so. One of the double beds is a little higher than normal, (but it is very comfortable). Thank you for a very comfortable and enjoyable short stay, this cottage will be my first choice when visiting Cornwall again

  • "The cottage is excellent with all we needed for our stay, the owner had left us a nice Devon treat which we appreciated."

Our one issue was the lack of wi fi, made worse by a complete lack of mobile phone service, we have our own service but without a signal it was useless. The cottage does have a BT system installed but it requires payment, starting at almost five pounds for one hour, to use it. The cottage was reasonably priced and its location perfect, my suggestion would be to charge a little more and include free wi fi which today is, at least for us, an absolute must.

Hi Sumitra, I was surprised by your feedback as there is free WiFi. There is a BT router sitting on the bookcase in the sitting room emitting a blue light. I am so sorry you didn’t access it. I had left a welcome card with my name and number on it . I appreciate you didn’t have a signal for your mobile phone in the cottage, unfortunately mobile signal in parts of rural Devon and Cornwall is very erratic. If you had driven up out of the cottage a couple of hundred metres in either direction you would have had signal. I wish you had rung me up and I could have helped you access the WiFi. Thank you for your feedback and in response I will make sure guests are aware there is free WiFi and how to access it . Property Owner

  • "Thrushel cottage was an ideal place for us."

The location was quiet but within walking distance to local amenities. The property had everything that we needed, was tastefully decorated and was a great place to come back to in the evening after our daily activities. Sitting in the garden, drinking a glass of wine, and watching the river was a treat. I would highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "Double beds were so uncomfortable, one was covered in what can only be described as an incontinence sheet."

Storage radiators made the place un-bearably hot, and they took over 24 hours to cool down once switched off. There was a note left telling us not to open sash windows because they were broken. There were no instructions as to where to leave the black bin waste or where to put ashes from the fire (which we used after the radiators cooled down). There’s no instruction manual for the washer dryer, but if you want to know how to operate a cafetiere, there’s an instruction manual for that. After several days with zero sleep, we decided to cut our holiday short. Looking back at previous reviews, would have expected something to be done about the comments.

I am so disappointed that you did not enjoy your holiday. I do wish you had rung me; my name and number were at the top of the welcome card and I could have resolved most of the issues. Starting with the beds, I could happily have stripped the beds to reassure you there was not an incontinence sheet anywhere. There never has been. I use Silentnight mattress protectors and also pillow protectors which consist of lightly quilted cotton/polyester. The base of the antique, Victorian bed was tightened up by six inches at the end of August. The other double bed and mattress were both new when I opened in May 2021. The mattress is medium but I could have provided a mattress topper if it was too firm for you. You had moved all the night storage heater controls up to 9 and on to maximum boost; I could have shown you how to turn it down to obtain a comfortable temperature. I have summer weight duvets (tog 4.5) available in the bedrooms which may have helped you. The sash windows had been forced open by a previous visitor as I wrote in the welcome card, requiring a specialist repair. There is only one room in the cottage where the sash Is the only window. Sadly, you must have missed the part on recycling on the welcome card. I had included the day and date the recycling boxes and the black bin bags were to be collected in your week. I have taken onboard the fact you could not work the washer/dryer and have provided an instruction manual for it now so thank you for your useful feedback. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage in a peaceful location."

A couple of things to advise. The bed in the larger bedroom was uncomfortable and the mattress seemed to sink in the middle. Also, there was no welcome pack or advice about the cottage, e.g. recycling, how to increase the water temperature etc. Other than these two factors, we had a really enjoyable stay there.

Owner never told us her name or came to see us. Most equipment brand new but both double beds extremely uncomfortable. No support for mattress on one so we rolled into the middle , the other as hard as rock with a plastic over-mattress which prevented the body from breathing so very hot and sweaty.
