  • "A good property with some signs of dilapidation; a careful ‘year-end’ review could easily rectify some wear & tear and housekeeping issues."

The online photos from four years ago are idyllic; but not quite representative of current condition. Access with front door key is tricky, other reviews have mentioned this. Good location, friendly neighbours and gardener.

  • "The property is fab, very clean, easy to find and in a very quiet street."

Close enough to walk to Newlyn as well. It would of been handy to know that there was a microwave in the house as none of the pictures or descriptions state this - I would of taken my microwave steriliser for my baby instead of the plug in one to save worktop space. Downstairs shower takes a while to get used to how it works - I gave up in the end and just used the upstairs one as it wouldn’t stay switched on. One other thing, the door lock seems very stiff, had a bit of trouble when locking and unlocking, resulting in taking both keys in case one wouldn’t work. We have already discussed booking again for next year and my 5 year old said she loved the house!

  • "The twin room lacked basics."

We were a group of 6 adults for a week. No mirror in the twin room at all. Bedding was really cheap. Not enough toilet rolls for the week (ran out day 2). Not enough seats to comfortably seat 6 adults.

  • "This was our 2nd stay in Sycamore House & we have booked it again for next March."

It is a very comfy, homely house in a very quiet but not isolated situation with lovely views of Penzance Bay & St Michael’s mount from upstairs. It was good to see that 2 suggestions i made back in April were listened to & acted on by the owner - namely, a bathmat for the upstairs shower room & a caffetiere. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with lots of crockery & glasses etc.

  • "Sycamore House is amazing !"

It’s a beautiful home in a fabulous location. The facilities in the house are of high standard compared to other holiday rentals - it really was like coming home after a day exploring We love Cornwall and visit regularly and chose to stay here as it was so accessible to our favourite places We loved Sycamore House so much we have booked for next year.

  • "Sycamore House was lovely & clean & tidy when we arrived after a very long drive."

Lovely to be able to make a cup of tea straight away that had been laid out ready for us. The kitchen was very well eqipped with everything you would ever need - except - we couldn’t find a coffee machine or cafitierre!! One of these would be very welcome for next time we come. We have booked the house for September & again next March, as we felt very at home in it -very peaceful location but not isolated, with a view from upstairs of the water & The Lizard in the distance. Only other thing to mention would be that only one of the bathrooms has a bathmat, so one for the other bathroom would, we think, be an idea.

  • "Sycamore Cottage is modern, well-equipped and comfortable."

It was beautifully clean and welcoming, we appreciated the milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and juice that had been left for us. It's the first time we have had a holiday cottage where the food cupboards contained basic essentials for cooking eg salt, oil, herbs, flour - all the things you forget to bring and then end up buying! So thoughtful! The only slight criticism is a lack of storage in the bedrooms - obviously it's difficult to install wardrobes with such sloping ceilings so a few more hooks and drawers would have been useful.

  • "This house is in a fantastic location."

We were able to leave the car on the drive most days and do wonderful circular walks. Several excellent restaurants within walking distance in Newlyn and Penzance. The house itself was exceptionally clean. Very comfortable.

  • "We reported a fault with the shower on the second day of our home holiday and have still not received any reply, there was also so lots of recyclables rubbish left in the garage from the previous occupants we couldn't use the barbecue as it was dirty and had not been cleaned due to the covered restrictions and you making us leave the property and enter the property early for a deep clean this was not satisfactory."

The downstairs shower the grout was black with mould and needs a good clean not what we expect from a Sykes cottages we have been many times before with you and always been satisfied. I have taken photos which I can send you I will not publish online till I've heard your response.

Spotlessly clean, bright and with private garden. Within waking distance of Newlyn and you can follow the coastal path to Mousehole without using the car. Handy for shopping at Penzance. We would definitely plan to book this accommodation again in the future.

About the location

Penzance 1.2 miles; Marazion 6.6 miles; St Ives 8.9 miles.

Nestled next to Penzance, and although still a quaint town in its own right, Newlyn is actually the third largest fishing port in England, and an important Port of Refuge for all seafaring craft. This Cornish town is clustered around the harbour, with its historic 800 year old quay (the Mayflower actually left for America from this quay, not Plymouth) curling around a few small boats on the western side. Famous for the Newlyn school of Art and Newlyn Copper, the Cornwall Coastal Path passes through the town, as does the level Mousehole to Marazion cycle path. An abundance of wildlife and flora can be enjoyed along both, with basking sharks, dolphins and grey seals often seen. The Cornish coast is renowned for surfing, and Penwith offers some splendid beaches on which to enjoy this sport as well as surf fishing for sea bass. Mounts Bay also offers a wealth of opportunity for watersports enthusiasts as well as giving visitors an opportunity to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.
