  • "The location and price of the property was excellent."

The kitchen had everything that was needed and the bed was comfy. The general cleanliness was fine, I see there have been issues with mould. It has clearly been at least tried to be dealt with but could do with some extra anti-mould spray and a lick of paint in a few places. Again, can’t fault facilities and value. We had a lovely stay.

Thank you for your feedback , glad you found the property comfortable and enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "The main bedroom was damp and the walls were displaying mould."

There was an issue with security and people entering the building without a key by putting their hand through the outside window and on occasion were knocking on the flat window to be let in. The beds in the second bedroom were poor. The mattresses very uneven. Not divan beds The outside seating area was full of weeds and not a pleasant area to be outside to eat. There were also some cleanliness issues in the bathroom. The owners said they would be happy to offer some compensation - still waiting!

  • "I am sorry to have to leave a low rating however, the apartment was not worth the £993 I paid for four nights."

It had a musty damp smell throughout the property, the beds were of very low quality and uncomfortable. The property needs serious updating in terms of furniture and the damp needs to be sorted out. Cornwall is lovely but I wouldn’t recommend this apartment in it’s current state.

I’m sorry you were disappointed with your stay. I appreciated there was an issue with one of the beds which was dealt with first thing the following morning. The last five feedback’s we have received have given 100% on cleanliness, so I am surprised you found a problem with this. However, we will visit the property to check it out and will speak to our cleaning company. Property Owner

  • "The flat itself is clean, comfortable, roomy for two and would have been an ideal base for our holiday."

However it is one of 6 flats in a purpose built property. The other flats are occupied by staff from a local business and we believe the owner of that business owns the 5 flats. We had to cut our holiday short after 3 nights and leave because we could no longer tolerate the noise from the other flats and there was/is a security issue with the main entrance into the building. We did not feel safe. We contacted the owners of the holiday let upon leaving to let them know that their property was now unattended. We explained why. The owners were responsive and understanding. It then got referred to Sykes Cottages. After some time and some unsubstantiated comments on their part it was clear they had no intention of resolving our issue. We were not looking for a major refund and a gesture of some recompense would have satisfied. We will not book another holiday with Sykes and in my opinion they would do well to reconsider what constitutes Customer Care. Incidentally we had stayed locally via a different holiday booking company for 3 nights prior to transferring to Chy An Mor. In contrast that part of our holiday was lovely and as expected.

It suited us as it is well located for walks down to Carbis bay and St Ives and a reasonably flat (as flat as it gets) 5k running route to St Uny’s church. The off road parking space is an absolute bonus. Thank you, we had a lovely week.

  • "Was extremely disappointed that dishwasher and dvd player were not working we ..."

Was extremely disappointed that dishwasher and dvd player were not working we informed owner who seemed unconcerned and said not many people use dvds now well perhaps remove this from list of facilities also the outdoor space was shocking tatty old table and chairs right by the bins the beds were comfortable and everything was clean but would not book here again as it was like a council flat not a holiday home we always book with sykes never experienced this before

A previous guest told us that the dishwasher wasn’t working, an email was sent prior to your holiday explaining that we had been unable to get it looked at in time and asking if this would be a problem. We had no reply. I had no idea that the DVD player wasn’t working; no one had mentioned it before. I telephoned and spoke to you both and was told you would manage without. I never suggested that no one used them anymore, just that I hadn’t been informed about it. The outside space is a communal area and is described as such. The garden furniture, whilst basic (white plastic table purchased last year) is clean, safe and in good order. We always welcome guests' feedback and are proactive with any problem and we are sorry that you were disappointed on this occasion. Photos of the outside space would have been useful; we have visited the property this week and the outside space appears clean and tidy as usual. The dishwasher is working, and we can replace the DVD player. Property Owner

We were very comfortable and the flat is very well appointed . A minor problem with the TV was sorted out by the Landlady very promptly. The flat has everything one could need, every facility for an easy stay including appliances such dishwasher and laundry washer/dryer. There are shops within walking distance , and a pub which looked nice and we hope to visit next time. Tesco is a short drive away. We will be booking for a longer stay next year and hope to stay here on every visit.

  • "The apartment was roomy, and in a good position to get to St Ives."

It was also close to bus stops to St Ives and other places, there was also a handy convenience store just five minutes walk away. The only down side was the parking spot, which was quite narrow and awkward, luckily our car’s not a large one. All in all we had a very enjoyable week there.

  • "This property met our basic requirements as was as per listing."

..the main bone of contention was that we were told we could check in at 3pm! In fact it was only when I emailed the owners a few days before to then be told Sykes should have informed us that actual check was 6pm...but actually we could not get in until 7pm due to the property not finished being cleaned..yet on our departure the cleaner was sat outside at 9.30am...this said I would recommend Sykes and definitely go back to Carbis Bay

Co.uk should have inform us of the G7 summit was taking place when i booked the dates,. we were very restrictive where we could travel to , not allow to go down to the beach all shut off, road into St Ives closed off most of the time, we had to wait up lanes as the main road was closed for some times waiting to get back to the apartment on many times, very disappointed the apartment was clean , found bits crust in the oven on the oven tray, outside the chairs and the table were dirty stain from water which had dry on them, have not been clean for a long time the rear of the flat old rubbish lining about .

Many thanks for your feedback. Your booking was placed in August 2020 for June 2021, and the government announcement regarding the G7 summit was not made until January 2021, with available information being led by the government. We hope you can understand that for security reasons a lot of the information about the road and path closures was not divulged in advance, but we sent you an email when information became available, including weblinks for police and council information. Sykes Cottages also sent you an email the before your arrival regarding road closures, anticipated extra traffic, necessary ID for guests in the area. This email was sent by Sykes the day before your arrival to ensure the information was as up to date and accurate as possible for your travel and arrival. We are sorry the summit inconvenienced you and information regarding roads etc was not available far in advance, but it was completely outside our control. We have enhanced the outside area with a new table and chairs, fencing, plants and a new washing line and have provided relevant picture evidence of this to Sykes Cottages. In communal areas, the stair carpet has been replaced and while not all strictly our personal responsibility, we are very proactive and have also improved the hallway by painting the walls and doors and repairs to flooring. The property was checked thoroughly internally and externally by us in May and all was in good order. We apologise if due to windy weather or rain just prior to your arrival that the table/chairs had borne the brunt of some weather issues or debris from passing birds. Any rubbish from the communal building that was in the bin area has been collected and the oven tray will be double checked. We do also provide a contact number prior to guest arrival and Sykes also have a dedicated hotline for guests with any concerns while at a property and we would have addressed any concerns you had if we had known. We are sorry that neither ourselves or Sykes were given an opportunity to help you further at the time. Property Owner

However the car parking space was very tight and had to negotiate several bins at entrance. Also no real outside space to sit in but was out most of the time visiting friends who live near by. A bit of a problem if nowhere to go in the evenings

However we was very disappointed when we turned up to the property at 3pm after a 10 hour drive and it was not cleaned. The cleaner was there with her son. All she did was changed the bed a quick Hoover and spray bleach in the toilet. In the end we ended up cleaning the bathroom properly and dusting the rest our selfs which was not very good. We would of expected a higher standard of cleanliness. The flat over all was comfy and had everything that you needed for a relaxed week. The only thing was the internet was slow and it also did not have a Hoover Which would of been easier with 2 little boys. We loved st ives and have rebooked via Sykes to go back next year to another property.

  • "The information says it is 10 minute walk to the beach."

This is not true. It is at least 15 minutes and more if walking uphill, especially with beach gear. I had to drop my daughter and mother at the beach in the car. Then i had to walk back up at the end of the day to fetch the car to pick them up as it was too much for them to walk up the hills. The information says there is outside space for sitting. But the outside space is not fit for purpose. It is a tiny paved area looking into a scruffy yard next to a washing line. I don’t imagine that anyone would ever sit there. The apartment itself is fine and good value for money. But I don’t think you should sell the outside space as a feature.

  • "This is a well positioned flat."

It may not have great views out of the windows, but it is convenient, comfortable and warm. It is close to a bus route to St Ives, Truro, Penzance, so you don;t need to use your car once arrived - or could even arrive by train (using a taxi to get from the station). Access to the parking is not too easy, so a larger car than ours (Renault Scenic) would have problems. The St Ives Tesco is half a mile from the flat. The only down side we had was that the shower is over the bath, and my husband had difficulty getting into it. A grab handle on the wall would have greatly helped.
