  • "We think that The Barn was one of the nicest, cleanest, most well-equipped cottages that we have ever stayed at."

However, one small suggestion: we didn't receive a clear set of directions - just an address and postcode. 99% of the time that would be enough - but not here ! We had to ask 5 local residents where The Barn was - 4 had not a clue ! With the fifth, we struck lucky as he lived next door ! There was absolutely NO signage anywhere to indicate where the property was. May we also suggest a visitors book as several of the suggested places to visit were well out of date - and we'd have loved to make some of our own suggestions. However, in terms of value for money and location - unbeatable !

  • "Yes had a lovely stay."

House has everything you need for a good holiday. Only 2 small issues the freezer got very frozen seal around the door needs checking and could you update the bin collection . We put rubbish out on days requested but it didn't get collected they came next day. So need to tell people to place at bottom of driveway. But had a lovely week and it's definitely worth a visit.

The owners provide a detailed information pack on every facility in the property, which proved extremely helpful along with numerous games, DVD’s and beach toys. The location of the property is perfect for exploring both coastal and inland attractions in the area. We will definitely be looking to coming back again.

  • "The Barn was lovely and clean, and really really quiet!"

We would book again if the main bed was changed - it was very small and very very uncomfortable. Also the 'accessible bed' is too high for a wheelchair user. Otherwise the accommodation was lovely, good size and everything we needed for a lovely week away! Oh and our teenagers were happy with the WiFi and the amount of board games on offer!

  • "A lovely, spacious cottage."

Very clean and great use of space. Nice touches like the board games and books too. The oven door doesn't shut properly, however, so we had to wedge it with a chair to use it. Also the main bedroom double bed needs a new mattress as it's very uneven. We had a lovely break though and would visit again

  • "The property was lovely well looked after clean and spacious."

The only issue we had was the oven didn’t work properly. The door doesn’t shut and it took ages to heat up. As we only used it the first night and ate out the rest of the time it didn’t cause us a problem.

  • "The cottage is great, every kitchen accessory that you would need and more."

My only complaint would be is the bed in the downstairs bedroom (which I assumed was for a disabled person as it has an on suit wet room) is far too high for a disabled person, I had to put my Mum on the sofa bed in the lounge/ kitchen (which was far too low). Other than that we had a great time. One other point, perhaps put signage at the entrance from the lane as was difficult to find.

  • "On arrival whilst unloading the car one of the neighbours came out of their property and told my friend to move the car tighter to the wall when parking."

This was within 5 minutes of our arrival and there was ample space for other cars to get passed. Not a very nice welcome. The disabled bed was too high for our 86 year old lady, we had to buy a set of steps so she could get into the bed. If I was aware of the height of the bed, I would not have booked the property. Overall a lovely property, very good central location with shops, pub etc. in very close proximity.

Parking was a bit of a pain due to us having an estate car and the nearest pub was a bit of a hike with most of it being on the hill down to Camelford. All in all the Barn was a credit to Tim and his cleaning team. Brilliant.

  • "Was disappointed the washing machine was broken."

At first we thought it was just one of those things but having read other reviews now it appears its been an ongoing issue that hasn't been addressed. Also neighbours were quite disrespectful complaining we weren't parked near enough to the wall and then subsequently had their own friends round who parked in front of our gate blocking us from leaving the cottage basically. Also their dog fouled in the courtyard and it wasn't cleaned up. That's no fault of sykes or the owner of our cottage though. Big thumbs up for the numerous books, games, dvds available on arrival. A very good selection, thanks for that. As for basic facilities I saw someone complain about I think this was very unfair on the owners. To grumble there wasn't milk or coffee provided is frankly ridiculous. Why this would be expected I don't know. True essentials were all provided. Our only other negative would be that there needs to be more of a focus on directions to find the cottage. It wasn't easy. On the whole though a very enjoyable break and we would definitely recommend.

Picture of property doesn’t show how tight the access is and was made to feel apprehensive about parking and succumbed the unfriendliness of one of the neighbours over our parking two cars even though we had checked with Sykes and owner prior to booking that this was OK. We were also told that there was parking in the side roads, this really isn’t the case, roads too narrow, and was already taken over by locals transit vans and other rental properties. Was disappointed that the cupboards were bare of any essential items ie condiments would have been nice to know in advance, plus more suitable dishes needed to use in microwave. Fridge/Freezer doors didn’t close properly without pushing hard on them. Found double bed creaked hence didn’t sleep well also toilet seat in en-suite lose and doesn’t fit properly plus toilet in wet room rocks. Most of the windows don’t close properly either.

It was very well equipped and comfortable. I would certainly recommend the Barn to anybody seeking a holiday in that part of Cornwall. The only negative about the Barn was the parking situation. Although we had our own space, it was difficult to manoeuvre ones car in and out due to too many cars parked in a combined space. Apart from that the place was brilliant.

  • "Great cottage, Very pleased with the facilities."

The Camelford town is quite small with only one working pub, the Masons Arms. Quite dated inside but ok. The meals we had were very big. There is a great little cafe that does excellent cream teas and lovely breakfasts opposite a nice park. there's a pharmacy , CoOp and a couple of other stores. It's about 20 mins drive to port Isaac (doc Martin), if you go you must have a fresh crab sandwich at the Old school house restaurant . There is a bus service (10 & 95) that go to the local beaches and beyond. The airfield museum is worth a visit if you like war type stuff 10 mins away. Some of the country lanes are a bit scary if your used to town driving. Definitely worth doing a walk up Roughtor, only about 25 mins to go up to the top and great 360 deg view of the area, Roughtor road is single track road so be ready to pull in to a passing place.

Every detail had been thought of and we didn’t want for anything. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms plentiful and I loved the two different sitting areas which was great if one person wanted solitude. It was a real home from home. The only negative, which would only apply to the few, is that dogs are not allowed.
