The house was great for us - and our 3 dogs. A big garden was a bonus. The cottage was ideal for some great walks and not far from the coasts. A couple of helpful additions to the house would be a cafeteria, some hand soap and washing up liquid - but this is only a minor thing.

Gardens were very overgrown and dilapitated.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Over the years we have never had any of our guests’ cars damaged by the track used to approach the property. Our garden is also left to grow as a natural wildlife space for all to enjoy the beautiful nature the location has to offer. Property Owner

Owner helpful and Fred the labrador an added bonus. Regarding posts others have made, the drive is perfectly adequate, stony but even. There is a faint hum of traffic but there is also the faint chug of a steam train too ;) Lovely place to relax in the countryside with a variety of animals around (horses, pigs, sheep, cockerels which dont wake you up). Mature trees and lush garden with lots of birds. Uneven ground, steps and slopes so not suitable for the less sure-footed. Lanivet Spar tiny but well-stocked, good coffee to takeaway. Pub friendly, fish and chip shop really great (Welcome Stranger)

Robin was the perfect host and his dog Fred, was super friendly. The large garden surrounding the property was perfect for our dog - he was able to run around and explore freely which meant we could feel relaxed, and it was great for him to have an older and wiser dog to be friends with! The cottage kitchen was very well equipped and everything was really clean - we cooked every evening as lots of places were still closed due to Covid restrictions and found everything in the kitchen that we needed. The bedroom was very comfortable with a good king sized bed. The location was a perfect based for exploring local walks but also easy access to head off on longer day drips all round Cornwall. After nearly 6 months in lockdown 3 - the Old Engine House was the perfect change of scenery.

We stayed for a week over Christmas and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay as well as our dog. Huge outdoor space and enclosed garden to let our dog explore off lead. Well equipped, wood and kindling for log burner supplied for the week. There is also central heating and radiators in each room. Cleaning products supplied, toilet rolls etc as well as towels. There was also a pint of milk in the fridge, biscuits, tea & coffee and fresh flowers. Water was hot and plentiful and hot for washing up and for showering. There is also a table top dishwasher but we washed the dinner plates and saucepans by hand. Robin was helpful and gave us a tour of the cottage on arrival but was not intrusive (he lives next door). There was plenty of room to park our vehicle on a gravelled hardstand. We would recommend The Old Engine House and certainly re-visit.

  • "Nice rural location with large garden, perfect to let dogs stretch their legs."

Only downside is the traffic noise from the Bodmin bypass situated a mile of so from the property. Village of Lanlivet, which boasts a nice pub and local store, is a pleasant two mile stroll along quiet country lanes. Internally the cottage has all that is needed for a relaxing holiday, albeit the property, in my opinion, could benefit from an element of general refurbishment/upgrade.

Thank you for your feedback. Pleased to hear you enjoyed the location. Sorry you heard the traffic but due to the adverse weather conditions we had, the noise from the wet roads is amplified. You will be pleased to hear after the busy summer period we have had with guests, The Engine House will be enjoying a well deserved coat of paint. Property Owner

We've stayed in lots of cottages over the last 40 years and this has to be one of the best equipped cottages we stayed in, even to being able to make my sister a surprise birthday 'cake'. It was comfortable, with little personal touches like the bedside lights made by Robin (the owner). Fred the dog was very friendly and funny, greeting us each day like one of the family. The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting so many of Cornwall's land marks as well as some not so well known places. At the end of our stay we purchased some of Robin's home made goodies - jams, jellies, sausages etc which we thoroughly recommend! All in all we had a great holiday, even the weather was lovely, and we look forward to going back.

But this didn't stop us enjoying our stay, Robin was very helpful and helped us as much as possible, As a result we didn't see much of Cornwall it was because the cottage with all its grounds being such a good place to stay we still enjoyed what could have been a holiday nightmare.
