  • "The lock on the kitchen door seemed very stiff and probably needed oiling."

Also the "front" door seemed to be sticking due to damp and wood swelling I would guess? Apart from that the cottage was as good as any I have stayed in in the UK, thank you.

  • "We had a brilliant stay here."

A lovely house that was warm cosy and had everything we needed we plan to visit again in the future! We briefly met the housekeeper who had sent us a very welcoming message on the day of our arrival and who clearly does an amazing job of looking after the house.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Heatherdale, Treknow."

The Victorian house and it's location exceeded our expectations. We know the area and particularly liked the walk up to the coastal path overlooking Trebarwith Bay, then round robin back to the cottage via Gull Rock House. There are good views from the front windows over pasture fields towards The Strand and The Rumps in the distance. The Rear Garden was secure for our hound dog Bertie but the front garden was for the most part unusable due to the road and no front gate. Within, the house was well equipped, the beds were comfortable and we can see the owners investment and care in creating a holiday feel. Through a big storm we felt protected and when the sun shone we were booting up for another walk or a trip to the tidal beach, setting up our days according to the low tides. There are some maintenance issues. The bathroom sink and hob are cracked, the shower head bracket would not hold it's angle in place so showering is easier hand-held within the bath. The rear patio furniture could do with an update and the middle gate latch needs attention as it blew open a few times. Minor points though not detracting from our enyoyable break... we were sad to leave and would book again.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed the house. We will endeavour to check out those issues and put right where we can. Property Owner

.perfect We had a super week at Heatherdale Lovely clean and sweet smelling property and pretty, well maintained gardens Sat in the back garden under the lovely fig tree surrounded by bluebells after a morning out exploring and then watched the sun go down on the hot front patio Two big bay windows that showed off the beautiful view (Didn’t want to close the curtains) It was just unfortunate on the last afternoon that the plumber had trouble fixing a problem and ended up spending more time at the property than was expected

The stairs were very steep and narrow and the front steps were slippery and needed a banister or rail to hold on too.the house was in general was quite comfy.

Thank you for your feedback. This is an old, character cottage which we strive to keep maintained and decorated to a high standard. Our housekeeper works hard to keep the house clean. The house description does mention how steep the stairs and garden are. We will endeavour to address your issues. Property Owner

Location is perfect - stunning views and a quick walk to the coast path. The house is really comfy and well-equipped, especially the kitchen. Best dog-friendly place we've stayed, with a large and properly enclosed back garden. Having a tumble drier was a luxury which was very helpful when it was too wet to dry outside, and the outhouse was so handy for storing beach stuff and wetsuits. It really felt like a home away from home, and on the odd rainy day we were content to light the log burner and play games by the fire, watching the fog roll in from the sea. Thank you.

The shower and bath are pretty worn. The cleanliness and welcome touches were good as always. We do have an issue with Sykes however. This is the 3rd year we've booked with Sykes, for the same cottage - but have not been given a loyalty discount in years 2 and 3. Most holiday companies offer discounts to loyal customers. Fantastic location and so well equipped! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend! The garden was enclosed which was great for our dog and children when we weren’t exploring the area. It’s a house with so much personality, they have books, games as well as body boards, buckets and spades. The kitchen has everything you could need too! It was exceptionally clean. It’s the best holiday home we’ve every stayed in! The 15-20 minute walk down to Trebarwith Strand through a field and a little wooded area is delightful, there is a pub, also very nice, and a shop selling beach bits and bobs including very good ice cream. We would highly recommend a walk to Tintagel along the South West Coast Path from Trebarwith Strand, it’s about 2.4 miles and a little hilly but the views are outstanding. We can’t wait to come back!

About the location

TREKNOW

Boscastle 4.9 miles; Padstow 19.9 miles

This small village and civil parish lies on the north coast of Cornwall in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, some four miles north-west of Camelford. It boasts a slate quarrying history and was also once home to a small copper mine in the latter years of the 18th century. It has a village hall and small hotel, yet there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, which is dominated by glistening waters, rocky coves and spectacular scenery each way you turn. Tintagel, home of the legendary King Arthur’s Castle, is merely a stone's throw away, a popular but not overcrowded tourist destination. Several beaches, including nearby Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cove, are within easy reach and surfing is the main attraction for those who love the water. It is littered with pubs and restaurants and the Old Post Office (National Trust) is a must for any visitor. The South West Coast Path passes through the village and in both directions, it winds its way along the cliffs, down to the water’s edge through dramatic countryside. Head north along the path and in 2.5 miles is the pretty village of Boscastle with its narrow valley leading down towards the raging sea. Further afield are the surfing meccas of Newquay and Bude. The vast landscapes of Bodmin Moor, the largest indoor rainforest at the Eden Project and the Camel Estuary are all within a 40-minute drive, plus the colourful harbour at Padstow beckons with traditional pubs and delicious seafood.

Please Note; Not suitable for people with limited mobility, as steeply sloping, front garden, please take care, torch advisable due to limited lighting from back garden.
