  • "Location was superb."

Close to Newquay, Perranporth and Crantock. The right side to visit Falmouth and St Ives. We didnt visit Holywell as the weather limited us to only a couple of beach days. We didn’t eat in the village, apart from a pop up Pizza van that parked one evening at the village hall. Doughlicious - it was amazing, we went back for more. Gorse Bakery is a must and only a couple of minutes drive. The house felt like a home. Had everything you'd need. Beds very very comfortable. The bottom bunk is understably a tad small for bigger teenagers - he managed 1 week, just. The kids loved it. The biggest downside was it felt a bit grubby. Maybe we stayed end of season? But it needed a good clean. Orange discoloured bathroom seals. Super slow drainage in bathroom. Smelt a bit "drainy" Outside was lovely - just needed a good clean especially the small canopy and windows. Patio door glass was filthy - from previous dogs paws(?) Upstairs was fine. Downstairs let it down. The sofas needed a hover - the cushions haven't been lifted for a while and it smelt bad (I appreciate its a dog friendly home, a good vacuum and a spray of fabric freshener would be good) There were clumps of dog hair around the feet of the sofas. Skirting boards were dirty. I took a small dog and appreciate this is the downside of dog friendly accommodation, however these small details matter to me. I want to stay somewhere that's at least as clean as my own home. The dishwasher was welcome as was the washing machine, however the clothes airer only had 2 legs so had to make do with it propped on the dining chairs. We didn't use the tumble function as we weren't in long enough to wait for it to dry. The "floor boards" were super noisy- no quietly going to the loo in night. The fridge was over the top noisy too. (Don't say I didn't warn you!) I'd consider staying again if it were cleaned properly and they'd not added a further £700 to the price for the same week.

The cleaning conditions you described are unacceptable. We expect a high standard from our property manager and cleaners - they had maintained an overall 100% rating this season up until this point. We’ve taken steps to re-dress this disappointing decline. We hope you accept our apology. We’ll look into the fridge noise. We spent time there in the off season and it wasn’t causing us any disturbance. Perhaps it’s been dislodged somehow over recent months, if so, we’ll fix it. We’ve asked our PM to replace the clothes rack. However, there is a clothes’ line in the garden and drying racks in the downstairs toilet. The property manager is on call if anything is not up to standard. The comment about the rental fee being £700 above previous years is not correct. This year’s price was just over £1000 and within £100 or so of last year’s prices. Our prices are set by Sykes’ own algorithm - based on the average rental costs in Cornwall for the time period and property size. Property Owner

The property is clean, modern and welcoming, we had a family of five and the property is big enough with the added bonus of a master suite on the top floor - the beds are very comfortable! Highly recommend the property and the area is fantastic with some lovely local beeches - we will be back!

  • "Generally a basic rental advertised as for 6 people, but only 2 slice toaster."

The first floor bathroom lacked a shower mat in the bath. The exit to the garden requires a step for easy access from the house. More parking space is required as 6 people would arrive in more than 1 car.

For the purpose of clarity, we aim to keep our property summary as accurate as possible, which clearly states: suitable for 5 adults or 6 guests including young children and off road parking for one car - (our welcome email gives directions to additional parking spaces nearby). The property is a new build and adheres to strict building regs. There is no requirement for an additional step to the patio, unless a special request needs to be met. We comply with strict cleaning guidelines supplied by Sykes and Cornish Tourist Board; shower mats are not recommended as they quickly become unhygienic. Property Owner

Set in a village with lots of amenities. Dunes is very well equipped and very comfortable - pity about the poor state of the small garden.

Thank you for your generous rating. We are sorry the garden wasn’t at its best in March. Between the long winter months and the building work done in the garden before your arrival, the grass had suffered. We have made significant improvements since your stay to include a covered outdoor seating area and better garden drainage. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Dunes during the February half term."

The house is well equipped with everything you need for your stay. The garden is enclosed and safe for both children and your four legged friend. The beaches near by are great (Holywell and Crantock being the nearest). The village has a well stocked Londis and there is a village bakery, which serves coffees and teas and has an array of cakes as well as breads, pasties and local goods. Due to it being low season the local pub and restaurant were closed and the fish and chip shop was only open on Friday.

Sadly the village pub & restaurant has not reopened since closing during Covid. Property Owner

  • "All in in a lovely property, clean and comfortable."

The garden is pretty secure but towards the end of the garden, up the slope the fence is very low and having two inquisitive dogs meant you had to keep an eye on them! It would of been nice to know that the local pub had been closed but other than that the local shop is very well stocked and the chip shop is a must! Well located for the local beach at Holywell Bay and for exploring the rest of Cornwall.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Dunes and enjoyed exploring all around the local coastline."

The pub in Cubert was closed but we found a nice little shortcut through the fields and public footpath that ended up at the Smugglers Den (approx 10mins walk). The pub has a dog friendly area, the food was brilliant and it has a nice beer garden to sit in. We enjoyed visits to Padstow (40mins away), Newquay, Charlestown, Perranporth and the Eden Project. It was very busy but of course during this time, you expect that. The antibacterial gels left in the house were very welcomed. The bed was very comfortable, the house spotlessly clean, the kitchen is well equipped, the garden was secluded and gets the pleasure of the sun in the afternoon. The house was well equipped. My only feedback would be that I was unable to find a washing line. I am not sure if there is one there but a retractable one in the garden may be of some benefit for guests, especially as a washing machine is provided. The other thing would be to provide some empty cupboards in the kitchen, so guests have somewhere to put their bits and bobs. Overall we would not hesitate to visit The Dunes, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to exploring more of the coastline on our next visit- whenever that may be. Thank you for Olga and Ian, you really do have a lovely home.

We walked to Holywell Bay one day and whilst it is quite a walk my 75 year old mother in law managed it fine. Holywell Bay is lovely and well worth a visit. I would also recommend Crantock beach which is a short drive away. Both these beaches are dog friendly all year round. The property is is great with a small enclosed garden for the dog. A dog bed and bowls are provided and there is a stair gate to keep them from going upstairs. The bedrooms and bathrooms are finished to a high standard with nice furnishings. The kitchen area is small but perfectly adequate for a holiday home. Parking for one vehicle directly outside the property so no issues with trying to find a space. If you are looking for a modern holiday home then I would recommend The Dunes.

  • "Lovely, clean and comfortable house over three floors."

Kitchen well equipped with cooking utensils and dishes, beds really comfortable and bathroom facilities excellent with plenty of hot water. The house is on a small new development which was lovely and quiet. Enclosed garden was perfect for the dog as we could let her out with no problem, and lovely place to chill in the evenings after days at the beach. Had even provided a bed and blanket for the dog, so she had a choice of her own which we brought or a new one which she fully took advantage of. House manager Tracey was always at the end of the phone if we had any questions, and text before we arrived to make sure we had the access code for the key box, and the owners emailed to make sure everything was to our satisfaction as well, so felt very much looked after. The house was centrally located for Holywell, Crantock, Perranporth and Newquay beaches, so my son and his family were spoilt for choice as to where to surf. Lovely shops and amenities in the village which were a 5 minute walk from the property, and plenty of places to eat nearby. All in all a lovely property which I would recommend. • "The property was substandard and our woes commenced from the time we arrived."

We couldn't get in as the agent had set up the wrong code on the key safe. It was only by trial and error we finally got in. Parking was extremely difficult not helped by a skip on next doors drive which partly blocked our parking space. We subsequently found that next door was having landscaping in the rear garden which created noise throughout the mid to later part of the holiday. The property itself was much smaller than we had anticipated with very basic facilities. The property was not as clean as it should have been. We arrived to find significant amounts of recycling left over from the previous occupants. The kitchen door had a red stain on it which we could only assume the worse. There were hairs on the bedding in one of the rooms. Two of the three bedrooms were however in an adequate state of cleanliness. The downstairs toilet seat was broken and the standard of the kitchen equipment was extremely poor. Rusty cheese grater, knives, pans, dirty oven trays and dirty oven. The microwave wasn't as clean as it should have been, the cutlery tray was dirty and so we had to wash all cutlery, and the floor in the living room was dusty. Flimsy cheaper toaster and extremely dirty toilet brush holders. We booked the property partly because of the "enclosed garden" however the top of the garden was only secured by a two foot piece of wood. We certainly would never book this property again.

The property

A contemporary-built house situated in the picturesque village of Cubert, near some of Cornwall’s prized beaches and breath-taking coastal paths.

Tastefully decorated to a high-standard throughout, the ground floor offers a cosy open-plan living space, with a large L-shaped sofa for comfortable lounging.

The kitchen is fitted with quality, modern appliances, and has ample space at the dining area for family gatherings.

The ground floor, also has a spacious cloakroom - ideal for cleaning muddy paws or sandy feet straight from the beach or muddy trails, this washroom is also equipped with drying racks for wet towels or wet-suits.

The first floor has two bedrooms - a spacious double that can be laid out as a twin with comfortable single beds or a super luxurious super-king-size, whilst the second bedroom is fitted with bespoke, sturdy bunkbeds suitable for children or adults.

Both rooms are well-equipped with bedside tables and lamps and storage, whilst the main bathroom rests on the first-floor, with an inviting bath and shower.

The second-floor offers a secluded king-size double bedroom, with its own en-suite shower room.

The property has an enclosed south facing garden to the rear with all day sun and direct access via French doors from the sitting room.

Cubert village itself has much to offer, including an excellent chippy, a well-stocked Londis and a sublime bakery serving top-notch coffee, delicious, fresh baked bread and scarily good cake.

Cubert is ideally placed between Holywell and Crantock, if you’re a fan of Poldark you’ll have seen Holywell Bay, with its iconic Gull Rocks, soft sandy beach, and high grassy dunes, around 20 minutes walk away or 5 minutes by car.

From Cubert Common you can take a National Trust path to Polly Joke Beach – a true gem, ideal for rock pooling, picnics, windswept walks and if you’re lucky you’ll get an audience with the local seals too.

Crantock has a stunning expansive beach where the river Gunnel meets the sea.

Whether you’re a walker, a surfer, a sun worshipper, sand dune climber or a castle builder, this beach suits all types of groups.

Linking each of these beaches is some of the most dramatic headlands and coastal walks in Cornwall – and are still excellent bases even in the colder seasons.

Trendy surfing mecca Newquay is an easy drive away, with some top cuisine and equally fun family attractions.

Alternatively, the beach resort of Perranporth is a similar distance in the opposite direction, all within easy reach from your doorstep!
