  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable modern converted barn."

The house had everything you needed, a comfortable night's sleep and enough room for a family of four to not feel cooped up. The hot tub was definitely a bonus as the kids enjoyed going in after a day out. Lovely views of the sea too!

After 9 hours travel having the hot tub lit ready for us to use when we arrived was great. Forgot how many hills and narrow the roads are especially when Google took us cross country without permission! Thank you for the complimentary cream tea. We visited Restomel, St Mawes and Tintagel Castles and Pastow. Fab Fantastic view from the front door.

  • "Very spacious property."

Extremely clean and comfortable. All furniture, appliances, crockery etc of high quality. Lovely cream tea ready for us to have at the property on arrival is a lovely touch. Enclosed back garden so the dogs were safe. Hot tub was great every night once we worked it out. Just don’t put too much wood in there or it gets too hot. Property in very quiet surroundings . 20 minute walk to the Eden project or 5 minutes in the car. If you are a runner would definitely recommend going down there to do the parkrun on Saturday morning as you get to stay in the Eden project for free and it’s so worth the visit . Would definitely recommend staying at Blackrock because of how comfortable and spacious it is and in a great location for exploring the Cornish coast

  • "We really enjoyed our week at Black Rock cottage."

Everything we could have needed was provided, including the ingredients for a lovely cream tea on arrival! We loved the fact that the floor was tiled downstairs which made it a lot less stressful in October with a hairy dog! The location is beautiful and you can even see the sea from the cottage due to its vantage point. A nice enclosed garden was good for the dog, and would be nice to sit out in during the summer months. Overall we would thoroughly recommend staying at Black Rock, and would happily return ourselves, thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

  • "Black Rock cottage was everything we were looking for our holiday stay."

It was very clean, cosy and well appointed. The owner was friendly, helpful but never intrusive. The welcome cream tea was a lovely touch. The only one small thing we would have found helpful was a written set of instructions for the dishwasher, cooker and hot tub to refer to when in doubt. The owner did cover these in his 'tour' when the first members of our party arrived but in all the excitement of settling in the details were later found to have slipped away.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location allowing easy access to all areas of interest."

The cottage is modern and well appointed and the hot tub was a lovely extra that provided many relaxing evenings. The owners gave us lots of information on how to enjoy our stay and were just a stones throw away should there be a problem, but were not intrusive at all. I would recommend this cottage and would definitely stay again. The only thing missing was the Xbox, but we were glad to not have it as a distraction and so didn't ask about it.

The exclusive use of the wood fired hot tub is a wonderful bit of luxury at the end of a day of sightseeing. The views over the coast and sea are beautiful and you can either walk or drive to the Eden project, which is only three minutes away by car. The owners are very helpful if you ever need anything and arriving to find milk, tea and cream scones with jam for you was a really nice touch.

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay here!"

With fabulous views overlooking the countryside and sea from our bedroom window, to the enclosed garden at the back making it very safe for our dogs, Black Rock was everything we needed. It was nice having our own bathrooms, the kitchen was well stocked and functional, the beds were comfortable, and for us, the cherry on the cake after a 7 hour drive was that the owners had pre-heated the hot tub for us so all we had to do was stoke the fire up a little more, and soak! The addition of milk, teabags and all the ingredients for a Cornish cream tea was a lovely touch, and we also bought a box of delicious fresh eggs. All in all, a lovely stay and would definitely recommend! :)

  • "The property is located in a great central location to access the local tourist attractions such as the Gardens of Heligan and Eden Project."

The hosts were lovely and informative and on hand to provide extra logs for the fire and eggs when needed. The property itself was fantastic, it has a great living space and two good sized bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen had all the utensils required for a weeks stay and we enjoyed eating in as much as out. The only negative was the property needed a more thorough clean before arrival (oven and floors predominately). A hoover would have been helpful to have on hand thoroughout the stay to help with picking up sand etc when going to the beach.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Rock, the accommodation was extremely comfortable."

The location perfect for strolling down to the Eden Project. It's handy for the Lost Gardens of Heligan and south west path walks. We recommend the walks from Fowey to Polkerris and from Carlyon Bay to Charlestown. Our only disappointed was no logs were provided for the log burner but Tesco is just a few minutes away by car so we were able to buy logs and kindling there. The central heating was perfectly adequate, but we love a log fire. We hope to return to Black Rock next year.

  • "Greeted by Paul on arrival we entered the cottage and were delighted at the attention to detail."

Everything was immaculate and we settled in and lite the log burner, poured a glass of red and felt at home immediately. The cottage was spotlessly clean. The weather was a little wet so say the least but even when we weren’t out exploring the wonderful sights of the Cornish coast we quite happily settled down and stayed in. There was everything that was needed for a comfortable stay. Sadly due to Covid we were unable to access the hot tub but this is quite understandable. Thank you from Anne and Simon

  • "Black Rock cottage is in a fabulous location with a lovely view of St Austell bay."

The cottage was comfortable with modern amenities. We were however, disappointed that the advertised hot tub was not available, there was no washing machine in the cottage and the laundry facility was also not available. It might be a good idea to replace the dish washer with a washing machine. Much more useful. One more thing, we were there for two weeks and the bedding was not changed. Having mentioned these things I must say that we had a fabulous holiday and would definitely come again.

However, the kitchen had a complicated microwave without an instruction manual. A manual for the electric oven would also have been appreciated. We had an amusing conversation with the owners when the two elderly sofas were replaced by brand new ones just as we were leaving!

We asked the daughter of the owners, I think , about using hot tub to which she rang her parents for instructions how to use it , again I thought at some point in the week they would have come to introduce themselves and answer any queries we had but saw no one. On the departure morning we left the key inside the property as we had found it on arrival , again nobody told us what to do with the keys.

The wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are perfect for a family day out, and a little further afield Caerhays Castle provides a stunning backdrop to Porthluny Cove. On the edge of town, St Austell Brewery offers tours of the Victorian brewing equipment and a chance to sample the local beer, and for those looking for surf and sand, St Austell Bay has several beaches to choose from - Porthpean, Carlyon Bay, Pentewan, Polkerris - the last offering a variety of water-sports. As well as a small shingle beach, Charlestown, a pretty, historic port, often has wooden sailing ships in the harbour, and is popular as a film location. A little further afield are Fowey and its beautiful estuary to the east and the fishing port of Mevagissey to the west.
